Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who built a shrine to Mahiru in the hotel's dining room?

Answer: Hiyoko

The notoriously grouchy Hiyoko only got along with Mahiru for the most part. Mahiru helped her tie her kimono and showed her how to do it. Hiyoko built a tribute to Mahiru with some of the many photographs Mahiru took during her brief stay in the killing school field trip.

However, the shrine turned out to be rather morbid in grey and black and generally creepy. It freaked a lot of the other students out who were offended by it.
2. What is the name of the movie that is showing at the cinema on Third Island?

Answer: The Wizard of Monomi

Monokuma took up film making and debuts his original creation "The Wizard of Monomi" on Third Island's cinema. Hajime refuses to watch it initially and thus the player does not see the film until the end of the chapter. The film is a clear parody of "The Wizard of Oz" and stars Monokuma as he goes on a killing spree of different Monomis dressed as characters from "The Wizard of Oz".
3. After Akane attacks Monokuma, which student steps in front of her, saving her from execution?

Answer: Nekomaru

Akane grows increasingly fed up with being imprisoned on the island and attacks Monokuma. This is against the rules of the field trip and Monokuma decides to execute Akane for breaking the rules. As Monokuma is about to blast Akane with a bazooka, Nekomaru steps in front of her and takes the shoot.

As Nekomaru clings to life, Monokuma says he will let Akane live because knowing she is responsible for her friend's death is a greater despair than death itself. However, Monomi reminds Monokuma that he must save Nekomaru because Nekomaru did not break any rules and thus cannot be punished. Monokuma reluctantly agrees with her and sends Nekomaru away to be treated. Akane is still allowed to live. Nekomaru is not seen for the rest of the chapter and does not attend the class trial.
4. Who is NOT among the original three students who contracted the Despair Disease?

Answer: Chiaki

As the students worry about Nekomaru and Fuyuhiko (who eventually recovers from his injuries received in the previous chapter), no one has killing on their minds. Monokuma is forced to introduce a new motive: the Despair Disease. This disease is contagious and inflicts despair on those infected with it.

One morning, Akane, Nagito and Ibuki all come down with it. It effects everyone differently, however. Akane becomes an emotional wreck who cannot stop crying. Nagito cannot stop lying and Ibuki has become an emotionless zombie of sorts.
5. The students who do not fall sick with the Despair Disease, quarantine in which location?

Answer: The motel

Ibuki, Nagito and Akane are sent to the hospital on Third Island for treatment. As the Ultimate Nurse, Mikan takes charge of their care. The students also decide that Fuyuhiko and Hajime should stay in the hospital as backup for Mikan. Hajime may have been exposed already to the Despair Disease and Fuyuhiko wishes to make up for his past poor behavior.

The remaining five (Kazuichi, Sonia, Hiyoko, Gundham and Chiaki) all decide to stay at the nearby motel. The motel is their safe spot to quarantine because no one who was sick ever went there. In addition, the hospital has two-way television system. The equipment only has a limited range and the motel is within that range.
6. On the morning of the murder, what does Hajime witness on the television screen?

Answer: Someone about to hang him or herself

Monokuma forbids Fuyuhiko and Hajime from sleeping in the hospital waiting room as it is not an approving sleeping area. So each night, the two must return to their cabins. Hajime wakes up early one morning to await any messages from Kazuichi at the motel.

He goes to the hospital but instead of Kazuichi, he sees a person with a bag over his or her head, walking up a ladder and presumably hang themselves before the lights go out. Hajime recognizes the area as the music venue and rushes there. But he is too late and finds he body hanging from the rafters.
7. Who died first: Ibuki or Hiyoko?

Answer: Hiyoko

Initially, Hajime is unsure whose body is hanging in the music venue. He goes to seek the others and finds mostly everyone. When he returns to the music venue with the others, they find not only the hanged body, but Hiyoko's dead body taped to a pillar. They lower the other body and find Ibuki under the bag.

Everyone assumes Ibuki was killed first because Hajime found her body before Hiyoko's. They theorize that during the search when everyone was split up, the killer also slit Hiyoko's throat and taped her to the pillar. However, Chiaki realizes this is all backward. The blood on Ibuki's feet and slippers would indicate Hiyoko was murdered when Ibuki's feet were still on the ground.
8. The video Hajime saw on the television screen was filmed where?

Answer: The hospital conference room

Hajime ran to the music venue because he recognized the background as the venue stage where he found Ibuki and later Hiyoko. However, Chiaki notices the venue curtain, while similar, isn't the same one that was there previously. A curtain is missing from the hospital's conference room.

From the start, the timing confused most of the students. While possible, there was very little time for the killer to complete all of the actions he or she needed to. However, the murderer could have saved time by confusing the actual times of death. Ibuki was already dead when the video appearing to be her hanging herself aired. The true killer was actually filming that live in the hospital conference room. So when Hajime ran to the music venue, it gave the appearance that Ibuki had just died.
9. Why did Hiyoko travel to the music venue?

Answer: To use the full length mirror

Hiyoko continued to struggle to tie her kimono without Mahiru's help. Mahiru taught her how to tie it when looking in the full-length mirror. But Hiyoko's motel room lacked such a mirror. Sonia told her of the mirror in the back of the music venue so Hiyoko broke her strict quarantine and walked to there.

As she tied her kimono, she accidentally walked in on Mikan killing Ibuki. Mikan stopped, slit Hiyoko's throat and then strangled Ibuki who was still mindless under the effect of the Despair Disease.
10. What effect did contracting the Despair Disease have on Mikan?

Answer: She regained her memories

It appeared that only the three original students came down with the Despair Disease. This was odd considering the amount of time Mikan spent with them in close quarters. However, Mikan did contract the disease and it caused her to regain her school memories that were erased. During her time at Hope's Peak Academy, Mikan was a member of the Ultimate Despair, a group dedicated to spreading despair and death around the world.

Mikan continued her mission of despair and lured Ibuki to the music venue where she intended to strangle then hang her to give the appearance Ibuki committed suicide. However, Hiyoko interrupted the plan so Mikan killed her first.

After being exposed during the class trial, Mikan admits to everything. She says she is fine with being executed because she murdered to impress her dead lover, whom she is excited about reuniting with.
