quiz
Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In "Final Fantasy VI" they were known as Pugs. What have they been called in every "Final Fantasy" since? (accurate until "Final Fantasy X-2")

Answer: Tonberry

Tonberry has been in almost every "Final Fantasy" game to date, and they've always been annoying little things that took forever to kill. They nearly always have a lantern and knife, and quite often have an attack called 'Everyone's Grudge' which did different damage on different people, normally doing the most to the main male character.

For example, in "Final Fantasy VII", a Master Tonberry would kill over 80% of Cloud's full HP by using 'Everyone's Grudge'!
2. Which of these main male characters is the odd one out?

Answer: Squall

Squall is the odd one out for two main reasons. The first one is obvious: Squall has brown hair, while everyone else is blond.

The second reason is not so clear. Squall is the only character here in which you see both of his biological parents (Laguna Loire and Raine). Zidane was genetically 'constructed', so that he could defeat his older brother, Kuja, should he become too powerful. Cloud was born from Jenova cells,. You never even hear of Locke's parents throughout the entire game.

Note: By 'Cloud', I mean 'Proto-Cloud', a biomechanical creature that posed as Cloud until half way through Disc 2.
3. Can you finish this sequence? Tifa, Rinoa, Garnet, -----.

Answer: Yuna

It's a sequence of all the main female characters in "Final Fantasy" games, in chronological order. Rikku and Lulu are the other primary female characters in "Final Fantasy X". Lulu is a tertiary character in "Final Fantasy X-2", while Rikku stays a primary character. Quistis is one of the characters in "Final Fantasy VIII".
4. You can have a Yeti on your team in "Final Fantasy VI".

Answer: True

Once you recruit Mog into your group, he says that he'll make the Yeti join you. His name is Umaro, and you can't really control him, but he is immensely powerful, and quite funny to watch in action. Another weird thing in "Final Fantasy VI" is the fact that you can also temporarily recruit ghosts into your group while riding on the 'Mystery Train', which looks and sounds suspiciously like Doomtrain from "Final Fantasy VIII"...
5. Which of Cloud's weapons from "Final Fantasy VII" can also be seen in "Final Fantasy VIII" (as a weapon, not a monster!)?

Answer: Ultima Weapon

When you fight the boss, Ultima Weapon, you may notice that he is holding the Ultima Weapon in his hand, and attacking you with it! Now, we all know that the Ultima Weapon is Cloud's best weapon on "Final Fantasy VII"...

This leaves us asking one question: What happened to Cloud?!
6. Which of these "Final Fantasy" games does not have (at least) two members of the same family (under any circumstances) as main characters?

Answer: "Final Fantasy VII"

In "Final Fantasy VIII", Squall Leonhart and Laguna Loire are father and son, despite Squall only finding out at the very end of the game!

In "Final Fantasy IX", Kuja is Zidane's older brother. Zidane was 'created' by Garland to stop Kuja, should he become blinded by power.

In "Final Fantasy VI" Relm and Strago are grandfather and granddaughter. Also, Edgar and Sabin are brothers.
7. In how many different "Final Fantasy" (accurate up to "Final Fantasy X-2") games are you able to meet/use a character named 'Gilgamesh'?

Answer: 3

Gilgamesh was one of the final bosses in "Final Fantasy V". He was an extremely hard to obtain GF in "Final Fantasy VIII", and he was a four-armed 'treasure hunter' in "Final Fantasy IX", who turned out to be a mere thief. Gilgamesh is not the only name that appears multiple times in "Final Fantasy" games. 'Cid' has been in pretty much every "Final Fantasy" since they started. There is often a 'Biggs' and a 'Wedge' in the game. The name 'Hilda' has been used at least twice, in "Final Fantasy IV" and "Final Fantasy IX".

Note: You can also find Gilgamesh in "Final Fantasy XII", and as a server in "Final Fantasy XI".
8. In "Final Fantasy IX" you may know them as 'Eidolons'. These summoning forces have had many different names in different games. Which of these was NOT one of the names?

Answer: Supreme Beings

They were known as 'Espers' in "Final Fantasy VI". 'Guardian Forces', or 'GFs' was their name in "Final Fantasy VIII". They were known as 'Aeons' in "Final Fantasy X" and "Final Fantasy X-2". So far, this is the only name to be used more than once, for obvious reasons. To date, they have never been called 'Supreme Beings'.
9. In "Final Fantasy VII", which of these boss monsters does not exist?

Answer: Ultima Weapon

The 'Ultima Weapon' is actually a weapon in "Final Fantasy VII". The monster is called 'Ultimate Weapon'. All of the weapons are extremely powerful optional boss monsters, and it's advised to not even attempt unless you fit all of these categories:

1. You are insane!
2. You are destined for world domination.
3. You like having 100% completion.
4. You have the 'Knights of the Round' materia equipped with 'HP absorb'.
5. You also have a 'Mime' materia. (as high level as possible)

If you don't fit these five requirements, you have literally no chance of beating Ruby or Emerald Weapon. The other two are possible without them, but still not easy!
10. What is the only move in "Final Fantasy IX" that will allow more than 9,999 HP damage to be caused?

Answer: Charge!

You have to get Steiner to use this move while all four characters are in low health. Providing they are a high enough level, they should all cause over 2,500 damage (it's better to use stronger people for this). As it is a command, it officially counts as one attack!
11. In which "Final Fantasy" was 'Water' introduced as a main element?

Answer: "Final Fantasy X"

Before "Final Fantasy X", there were three main elements: Fire, Ice and Electricity. Water still existed before, but only as a secondary element which wasn't really used. It became a main element in "Final Fantasy X" to help increase the flexibility of weaknesses.
12. Who is the oldest here?

Answer: Wakka

Wakka is 23 years old. He started playing Blitzball when he was 13, and this was 10 years ago in "Final Fantasy X". Aeris/Aerith is 22, according to the manual for "Final Fantasy VII", and both Cloud and Freya are 21, again, according to the manuals. There are only three people in "Final Fantasy X" where you actually discover their ages. Yuna is 17, Rikku is 15, and Wakka is 23.
13. Who's missing in this sequence? X-Death, Kefka, Sephiroth, Ultimecia, -----, Yu Yevon.

Answer: Necron

You might have thought it was Kuja, as he is the main enemy in "Final Fantasy IX". It is, in fact, a sequence of the FINAL bosses in each "Final Fantasy" game, not the main ones! You fight Necron after defeating Kuja in "Final Fantasy IX".
14. In "Final Fantasy X-2", Brother has a crush on Yuna. Why would this be considered wrong in the real world?

Answer: Because he is Yuna's cousin

Brother is Rikku's brother, and as Rikku is Yuna's cousin, this makes Brother Yuna's cousin as well. For some deranged reason, he has a crush on her from the start of "Final Fantasy X-2" despite her being a blood relative!
15. In "Final Fantasy VII", the Oritsuru is Yuffie's most powerful weapon.

Answer: False

The Conformer is Yuffie's most powerful weapon. It can be found on the Gelnika (The sunken Airship). Like all the ultimate weapons in "Final Fantasy VII" it powers up under certain conditions. In Yuffie's case, the stronger the enemy is, the stronger the Conformer becomes!
16. In "Final Fantasy IX", what is Eiko's most powerful weapon?

Answer: Tiger Racket

You may have thought it was the Angel Flute, but Eiko can also use Garnet's rackets. Ironically, the Tiger Racket teaches Dispel, which only Eiko can learn, meaning that the Tiger Racket is meant for Eiko! Noooo!
17. In "Final Fantasy VIII", "Final Fantasy X" and "Final Fantasy X-2", it was known as Ultima Weapon (the monster, not the weapon). What was it known as in "Final Fantasy VI"?

Answer: Atma Weapon

Atma Weapon is actually a lot easier than all the other incarnations of Ultima Weapon. You can find it towards the end of the game, in the tower where you fight Kefka for the last time.
18. Have the Magus Sisters been in any other "Final Fantasy" game apart from X and X-2?

Answer: Yes

The Magus Sisters were the final bosses in "Final Fantasy IV". They also made an appearance in "Final Fantasy VI", as the three statues that must not be moved, otherwise the balance of the world will be upset. Amazingly, this makes a link to the "Pokemon" games. In "Pokemon Diamond and Pearl", Mesprit, Uxie and Azelf, the beings of Emotion, Intelligence and Willpower, are found on a cave painting in a perfect equilateral triangle around an impossibly powerful being (either Dialga or Palkia, depending on which version you play). The triangle is an almost exact replica of the "Delta Attack" overdrive used by the Magus Sisters in "Final Fantasy X" and "Final Fantasy X-2".

This link is so unnaturally close, I felt that I just had to comment on it!
19. Summoning is a bit of a routine in "Final Fantasy" games, nowadays. Which game was the first to introduce summoning?

Answer: "Final Fantasy III"

You have been able to summon since "Final Fantasy III", which originally came out on the NES. They have had multiple names over the years, including 'Espers' ("Final Fantasy VI"), 'Guardian Forces' ("Final Fantasy VIII"), 'Eidolons' ("Final Fantasy IX"), and 'Aeons' ("Final Fantasy X and X-2").
20. Playing through "Final Fantasy VII", and finishing with "Final Fantasy X-2", how many guns would you see? (Dual guns count as two, single guns count as one. Do NOT list every weapon possible for each person).

Answer: 19

In "Final Fantasy VII" Barret and Vincent use guns. Barret has a gun-arm, which still counts as a gun.

In "Final Fantasy VIII" Squall and Seifer have Gunblades, which are guns and swords in one! Laguna uses a Machine Gun, and Irvine uses a Rifle.

There are no guns whatsoever in "Final Fantasy IX", and none are used by main characters in "Final Fantasy X"

In "Final Fantasy X-2", however, there are thirteen! All three of the girls have two guns each in the 'Gunner' dressphere. The 'Gun Mage' dressphere uses a gun, and so does the 'Alchemist' dressphere.

The last gun goes to: Gippal. You find this out when you see him and Nooj fighting against Vegnagun at the end of the game. Baralai is not helping them, because he has been possessed by Shuyin's spirit, and is now technically the bad guy.

Note: you may also count Logos while adding these up. He is not technically a main character. Main characters are people who are either noted in the game manuals, or play a serious part in the game. Logos is just a recurring enemy, and therefore does NOT count as a main character.
21. In "Final Fantasy VIII", it was a whip. In "Final Fantasy IX", however, it was reincarnated into a sword. What wonderful weapon is this?

Answer: Save the Queen

The Save the Queen is Quistis' best weapon in "Final Fantasy VIII", and Beatrix's weapon in "Final Fantasy IX", which you can only use once in the entire game. It does seem a little strange that a whip would turn into a sword, but this is "Final Fantasy"; anything can happen!
22. Take Eiko's age (from "Final Fantasy IX"), and subtract it from Vincent's true age (from "Final Fantasy VII"). What number will you have?

Answer: 51

In body, Vincent is 27 years old. He was put to sleep 30 years earlier, however, when Professor Gast used him for his diabolical experiments. This makes him 57. Eiko is only 6 years old.
57-6 = 51 years.
23. In "Final Fantasy VIII", what is the food in the cafeteria that Zell always wants?

Answer: Hot Dogs

Everytime Zell is in the cafeteria, waiting for a hot dog, the person before him in the queue always gets the last one! No matter what happens, Zell always misses out on the hot dogs. Poor him!
24. In "Final Fantasy VI", everyone refers to Locke as a 'thief'. What does he call himself?

Answer: Treasure Hunter

Locke bears an uncanny resemblance to Zidane from "Final Fantasy IX". They both do the same thing for a living, both have blond hair and mismatched clothes, and both fall for the main female character, respectively meaning Terra and Garnet. "Final Fantasy VI" and "Final Fantasy IX" are said to be the most similar out of all the "Final Fantasy" games to date.
25. In "Final Fantasy VII", if you feed Sylkis Greens to the white chocobo, and then scratch it behind its ears, what will happen?

Answer: Nothing

You actually have to feed Mimmett Greens to the white chocobo for it to give you the 'contain' materia. You only get two chances to do this in the entire game. After these two chances, Mideel, the place where you get it, gets completely destroyed, and falls into a giant river called the 'Lifestream'!
