Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. A video game reference every self-respecting gamer should know: "The cake is..." ...what?

Answer: a lie

During a playthrough of "Portal", GLaDOS guides you through your training, promising you cake upon completion. Towards the end of your training, you find 'The cake is a lie' carved into several walls.
2. In terms of the "Megaman" series, which of these is the odd one out?

Answer: horse

A horse is the only animal not to have a Robot Master based on it. Snake Man was from "Megaman 3", Toad Man from "Megaman 4", and Centaur Man from "Megaman 6", all of which were on the NES.
3. What SNES fighting game came in a special black cartridge?

Answer: 'Killer Instinct'

The other three were released in normal grey cartridges. A sequel, "Killer Instinct Gold", was released on the Nintendo 64 in a grey cartridge.
4. "Yume Kôjô: Doki Doki Panic" is to "Super Mario Bros. 2" as "Puyo Puyo" is to what?

Answer: 'Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine'

The North American release of "Super Mario Bros. 2" was just a redesigned version of the game "Yume Kôjô: Doki Doki Panic", using characters from the "Mario" franchise. Likewise, "Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine" was a redesigned version of the puzzle game "Puyo Puyo", using characters from the "Sonic the Hedgehog" series.
5. In "Croc: Legend of the Gobbos" (PSX), what object must you sound in order to complete the level?

Answer: A gong

Banging a gong with Beany on it will summon her and she will take you back to the hub world. The only levels without gongs are boss stages and secret levels.
6. During an interview, Dave Jaffe, the series creator of "Twisted Metal", said that that he had three stage ideas for every game, but one never got in. What kind of stage was he talking about?

Answer: A shopping mall

The two levels that make it into every game are the freeway and skyscraper levels. The two exceptions are "Twisted Metal III" (PSX) which had no freeway level and "Twisted Metal 4" (PSX) which had no skyscraper level.
7. In "DuckTales", Scrooge McDuck went from Transylvania to The African Mines, The Moon, The Himalayas, and The Amazon. In "DuckTales 2", he journeys through different stages in Niagara Falls, the Bermuda Triangle, Egypt, Scotland, and where?

Answer: Mu

Mu is a hypothetical continent that existed in the Pacific Ocean that disappeared at the dawn of humanity. Similarly, Lemuria is a lost continent said to be located in the Indian Ocean, one that sank inexplicably.
8. Which console has NOT has a "Tetris" game released on it?

Answer: Neo Geo

A "Tetris" game was released for the Sega Mega Drive. However, since Nintendo was granted the rights to "Tetris" earlier, the game was quickly withdrawn. Despite being withdrawn, nine copies of "Tetris" for the Mega Drive still exist, and it now holds the world record for the world's rarest game.
9. What game was developed under the codenames 'K-Project', 'Project Eden', and 'Vibes'?

Answer: 'Rez'

"Rez" is a futuristic rail shooter in which you play as a hacker flying through the computer network 'K-Project' in an attempt to locate and reboot the AI 'Eden' who controls K-Project and is threatening to shut herself down. "Rez" is notable for fusing musical elements in with the standard shooter gameplay. Every action you do produces a tone on beat with the music, and as you progress further in each level, the music progresses with you.
10. Which is NOT the name of a released game?

Answer: 'Sonic Crackers'

"Sonic Crackers" is the beta that eventually became "Knuckles' Chaotix" (Sega 32X). "Ninja Baseball Bat Man" (Arcade) is an obscure beat-em-up, "Princess Tomato in the Salad Kingdom" (NES) is an adventure game on the NES, and "LSD Dream Emulator" (PSX) is... Well, you kinda have to see it for yourself.
