Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In "Skyward Sword," after Link activates the second Gate of Time, he reunites with Zelda. However, Zelda reveals that she now has to go into a 1000-year sleep and leave Link once again. She says her ideal life is just being in Skyloft with Link. She then is crystallized into slumber. Why does she have to do this?

Answer: To maintain the seal on Demise

To be in Link's shoes must be frustrating, as he just rescues a friend only for her to lock herself in a giant sleep.

However, doing this does give Link time to find the Triforce. Ideally, the plan was to let Zelda hold Demise in the seal by slumber, and then Link would have enough time to find the Triforce and kill Demise.
2. In "Skyward Sword," Link and Fi say farewell in the end of the game. Yet, she does something that is quite unlike her character. What does she do?

Answer: She shows emotions: happiness and gratitude

In this scene, Fi had trouble feeling human emotions, but eventually she concluded that she felt happiness. She then thanks Link, noting that the time they've had is the best she's ever recorded. Finally, she wishes to Link that they might meet again, and then goes to sleep in the Master Sword.
3. In "Ocarina of Time," Link is tasked with leaving the Kokiri Forest, but as he does so, Saria appears right before he can enter Hyrule Field. She says that even though he's leaving, they'll be friends forever. With that, what parting gift does she gives Link?

Answer: The Fairy Ocarina

When Saria is done with her goodbyes, Link slowly steps back and runs away. Perhaps the developers did this to show that Link knew he had to break away from his current life to fulfil his duty. The Fairy Ocarina directs some early game progression, though it's later replaced by the honorary Ocarina of Time.
4. In the end of "The Wind Waker," Hyrule is being flooded, but the King of Hyrule resolves to stay behind. As Link is being taken back to the surface, he reaches out his hand to the King. The King solemnly lifts his hands to Link. What happens next?

Answer: The King retracts his hand and is left behind to die

He resolved that the new Hyrule that Link and Tetra would find would be their new world and that he would remain with his old Hyrule.

His final words show that the King of Hyrule felt integrity investing in the future, since he actually was the one that destroyed the old Hyrule by his Triforce wish.
5. In the mid-game of "Twilight Princess", Zant gravely injures Midna. Link then has to carry the dying Midna throughout Hyrule Field to Hyrule Castle. Who heals Midna with her soul?

Answer: Zelda

Zelda takes the life out her body to heal Midna; she also realizes Midna's true identity.

This event also marks development in Midna's character. Since Zelda sacrificed herself for Midna, Midna begins to care for Hyrule and her character becomes more soft-hearted.
6. In the end of "Twilight Princess," Midna tells Zelda and Link to not forget the world of the Twilight. She then addresses Link, saying, "I....see you later." Next, she shatters the Mirror of Twilight and leaves. What does shattering the mirror indicate?

Answer: Midna will likely never see them again

The reasons why she did this aren't clarified. Be that as it may, there are plausible assumptions. One is that Midna wanted to avoid conflict, since Zant and Ganondorf's menace was still imminent by the Twilight Mirror remaining intact.

To clarify, I say "likely" because even without the Mirror of Twilight, Zant managed to enter the Twilight Realm, suggesting that there are alternate links between the two worlds. However, it's possible that this was overlooked during production, as the developers had to have Zant for the Twilight Realm boss battle.
7. In "Majora's Mask," Link soothes the heartache of Darmani and Mikau with a certain song. When Link plays it, we see the biggest regrets and unrequited desires that Darmani and Mikau had in their lives. What is the song used to ease their spirits?

Answer: Song of Healing

Not only Darmani and Mikau, but this song is used to heal Kamaro, Link's Deku Form, and Pamela's Father.

Although it shows up in other games, this game's more Byronic characters complement the effect of the Song of Healing.
8. Though we know the origins of the Zora and Goron Masks, the spirit of the Deku Mask isn't plainly stated. Yet, in the end credits of "Majora's Mask," we see the Deku Butler lamenting over a stocky dead tree that's shaped like a Deku. It's heavily implied that this is his son, and that his son is the spirit of the Deku Mask. Where exactly do we see the Deku Butler mourning his child?

Answer: The passage connecting Hyrule and Termina

It's grievous to see since the Deku Butler is a loyal and honest person; he didn't deserve this, nor did his son. It's probable that the Skull Kid killed and used the spirit of the Deku Butler's son to transform Link.

Regarding the implications:

(1) The Butler's son is the spirit of the mask: The Butler says that Link reminds him of his son.

(2) The tree is the Butler's son: The Butler is mourning the tree. The son is also known to be away as the Butler mentions that if only his son would send him mail.

(3) Putting it together: The "Hyrule Historia" book says that Link's Deku Mask is from a dead Deku lying in the passage between Hyrule and Termina. The only dead Deku we see is the dead tree the Butler is mourning.
9. In "Majora's Mask", as most people in the town are taking refuge from the Moon and going to Romani Ranch on the night of the Final Day, what does Anju do?

Answer: Wait for Kafei in Clock Town

After discussing it with her mother, she does stay and wait for Kafei (if the side quest is followed). The salient aspect of this is that most people have deserted Clock Town predicting the impending doom. Nonetheless, Anju is adamant with her promise and seems to be okay with the possible consequences of it.

When Kafei and Anju do reunite and exchange masks, she reinforces this notion again, wishing to stay in Clock Town with Kafei. She then tells Link to take refuge, saying that her and Kafei are fine in Clock Town. She ends saying that Kafei and herself will "greet the morning together."
10. Though she knows Link's destiny is to leave her world, who says to him, "Please don't ever forget this song...or me..." ?

Answer: Marin

A sad "Zelda" moment that purely reflects the nature of "Link's Awakening", the quote itself is so paradoxical/conflicting when looking at the whole picture.

Marin says to never forget her or her song, but she only exists in a dream. However, things from dreams can be remembered, and a song and a person stay with the mind unlike other things. Is it right to cherish memories that never existed? Is it appropriate to remember someone who was just a dream? Overall, Marin's story is sad, but thought-provoking.
