Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. World 2 has what theme?

Answer: Desert

The desert sands of World 2 are where the game's challenges really begin. Gusting winds, fountains of sand, and tall cacti make traversing this world just that little more difficult. Who knows what secrets are hiding in the sand...
2. How many Star Coins are there to find on each course?

Answer: Three

Star Coins are usually found in obscure places on courses, but the rewards they offer can be valuable. Once you have stockpiled a few Star Coins, head over to Peach's Castle in World 1 to redeem your Star Coins for Hint Movies. Hint Movies allow you to see the developers of the game play through courses to reveal Star Coins, opportunities for endless 1-ups, and even secret goals. If you think you've mastered a course, take a look at the Super Skills movie for that course, and see how the developers do it.
3. What colour is the Super Guide block?

Answer: Green

This is the first Nintendo game that has had the Super Guide feature implemented into it. The Super Guide block appears on a course if you die eight times consecutively. By hitting the block, control switches to Luigi, as he shows you a way of clearing the course. If you want to jump back in at any time, a simple press of a button will put control back into your hands.

The Super Guide is useful if you are stuck on a particularly difficult course. However, you will not be able to get one of the stars on your save profile if you do use the block.
4. How many times do you fight Bowser Jr?

Answer: Three

At the end of certain Worlds, after clearing the Castle course, a new path may open up that allows access to Bowser Jr's airship. There are many obstacles on the airships, so getting past them might not be so easy. At the end, you meet Bowser Jr for a fight. You will fight him a total of three times throughout the game, that is, if you don't use a cannon on an earlier stage.
5. Does the game allow you to use the Wii Remote and Nunchuk?

Answer: Yes

There are two ways of playing the game: holding the Wii Remote horizontally, or by attaching the Nunchuk and holding them in each hand. New players to the game may find holding the Wii Remote on its own to be easier than using the Nunchuk as well. The basics of Mario's movement and actions is the same no matter which controller setup you choose to use.
6. Can Penguin Mario throw ice balls?

Answer: Yes

The Penguin suit makes its first appearance in this game, and is particularly useful during World 3. Whilst running, Mario can slide on his belly across icy ground and break blocks and knock out small enemies in his path. In addition to this, Penguin Mario has traction on the ice, which prevents him from sliding if he stops running.

The action for throwing an ice ball is the same as that of Ice Mario and Fire Mario.
7. Princess Peach gets kidnapped in which type of food?

Answer: Cake

When starting a new game, we are told that it is Princess Peach's birthday. Mario, Luigi, Yellow Toad and Blue Toad are in her castle, along with her Toad servants. When a giant cake comes in, Bowser Jr and the Koopalings jump out of it, throw it over Peach, and carry it away. Mario sets off after them, with Luigi, Yellow Toad and Blue Toad in pursuit. World 1-1 starts shortly afterwards.
8. Where can you obtain Power-Ups for use on other courses?

Answer: Red Toad House

There are several Toad Houses in each World, which offer various types of rewards. Red Toad Houses hold Power-Ups, and Mario must play a Power-Up Panels game to win. Green Toad Houses hold 1-Ups, and Mario must jump into a cannon and fire himself at coloured balloons to gain lives. Yellow Toad Houses hold only an Invincibility Star.
9. How many Ghost Houses are there, in total?

Answer: Four

Ghosts Houses make a return appearance, with some spooky music and the ever-determined Boos. There are many doors inside the Ghost Houses that send you to lots of different rooms. Often it is necessary to keep returning to a room, to try another door in order to obtain all three Star Coins. Boos are the main threats in the Houses, but only move when your back is turned to them. Facing them causes them to freeze and cover their eyes, in a similar fashion to the Weeping Angels from the Doctor Who episode, "Blink".
10. What colour is the Bowser Flag, used as a checkpoint?

Answer: Black

Bowser flags are found at the mid-point of each course, and act as a checkpoint for Mario. If Mario should die in the course after activating the flag, he can return to that flag and resume play. Some courses do not have a Bowser Flag, so be sure not to lose a life on that course, or you'll have to start again from the beginning. Also, the Bowser flag can be found on the flagpole at the end of the course.

The higher Mario grabs on the flagpole, the more points he'll get. That said, grabbing the top of the flagpole will give Mario a 1-Up.
