Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In this arcade game you would shoot these laser cannons, at the bottom of the screen, at these aliens that would move down towards the cannons. First it was slowly, then faster and faster until you shot them all. If you didn't, well, PAIN! What is the name of this game?

Answer: Space Invaders

"Space Invaders" was actually one of those games that brought me much PAIN with little GAIN. I would spend hours with music speeding up, my heart racing as I shot the aliens. Then more aliens would come down and faster music. "Space Invaders" was one of the top games and has been changed over the years. "Space Invaders" was introduced to kids everywhere in 1978. What fun we had!
2. This arcade game brought me a little bit of GAIN, but more often PAIN, when I was playing it. You had this long 'thing' that would move around the screen, while you would shoot at little mushrooms. You didn't want to shoot the 'thing', since it would split in two. What game is this that brought me so much PAIN?

Answer: Centipede

"Centipede" was created by Atari in 1981. You needed to shoot all the mushrooms, in order to destroy the mushroom you had to fire at it four times. Every time the centipede hit a mushroom, it would go down a line and closer to killing you. Oh, the PAIN it brought me! What do they say? No pain, No gain! This game was proof of that!
3. Nintendo came up with Mario and Luigi back in the '80s. They would eat mushrooms and hit their heads to collect coins, but do you remember what color overalls they were wearing?

Answer: Blue

Both of the brothers wore blue overalls, but they both wore different colored hats. Mario had the red hat with the letter M while Luigi, the taller brother wore the green hat with the letter L on it.

The brothers would go through worlds, collecting coins and trying to save the Princess. I just enjoyed bumping their heads on the blocks to gather more coins.
4. You can find a cute little story line in this video game. Once upon a time there was a plumber. The plumber was not very nice to this ape and the ape kidnapped the plumber's girlfriend. You must help the plumber rescue his girlfriend in what video game?

Answer: Donkey Kong

"Donkey Kong" was a large ape that you travel to the top of many ladders. While he was heading up the ladders, barrels and other things would come down on him to try to stop him from getting to the top of the ladder.

The first original "Donkey Kong" was released in 1981. Followed by "Donkey Kong Junior" and many more titles.
5. One of my favorite video games was this yellow round thing with an open mouth that would eat dots. You would move the lever, up, down, right and left to eat more before the the four enemies would eat you. What were the names of the original four bad guys?

Answer: Blinky, Pinky, Inky and Clyde

If you ate all the dots, in "Pac-Man" before you were eaten, you would move to the next level. Then the cherries or the strawberry would come out and you could eat these for extra points. Listen. Can you hear it? Thump thump thump. I hear the strawberry coming now, quick, eat it up for extra points!

Supposedly Billy Mitchell was the first person to get all the way to the end of the game. He achieved this in just a few six hours! How many quarters did you use trying to get to this level? Then again, his name is on the net, not mine for that achievement!
6. This game put YOU in the driver's seat. It was released by Atari and Namco. What was the name of this video game that was so popular in 1982?

Answer: Pole Position

This game featured a steering wheel, a shift for the gears and a both foot pedals. You would race your 'Formula One' car to the finish line. If you qualified, you could go on to race against other race cars. There were a few more options added later, "Pole Position II", "Pole Position III" and now you can play "Pole Position Remix" on your phone!
7. WATCH OUT! DON'T GET HIT! NO, DON'T GET HIT BY THE TRUCK! In what video game do you have to cross the street, dodging trucks and cars?

Answer: Frogger

I loved this game. I would get across a few lanes and then rush back to the starting point. I'd attempt it again and yet would have to again rush back to safety. "Frogger" came out in 1981. Once you made it safely across the street, you would then go across the water. Again, you would need to jump onto logs or backs of turtles. What a fun game it was though. Oh, did I fail to mention, the game goes faster and faster as you get closer to the end? A real fun race is on!
8. What's a video game without a wife? "Ms. Pac-Man" came out in the early '80s and was a major hit. What color bow did she have on her head?

Answer: Red

"Ms. Pac-Man" was very similar to the original, "Pac-Man" game. The music was the same, the joy stick was the same. I actually thought it was a tad bit faster myself, but nope, that was even the same.

There was a cute little stork dropping off their new family member on one of the intermission screens! How cute is that?
9. Dirk the Daring tries to rescue Princess Daphne in what video game that was released in 1983?

Answer: Dragon's Lair

This game was released on June 19, 1983 and became a mega hit right away. Dirk would fight his way, with his sword, through scenes to try and save the Princess from the dragon, Singe. Fitting, you would think. The game has not only gone on to success, but now you can play the game on the iPhone.
10. You will get hungry playing this game. You will have to jump over, walk over and hop over tomatoes, buns and hamburgers. What is the name of this fun game that came out in 1982?

Answer: BurgerTime

Actually, Peter Pepper is the man that makes the burgers in the video game. There are also the bad guys, Mr. Hot Dog, Mr. Pickle and Mr. Egg.

The game was so popular that other Peter Pepper games came out, including "Ice Cream Factory", "PizzaTime" and "Diner".

I went to Disney World and went to Disney Quest, playing all sorts of video games. It was so much fun bringing back old memories.
