Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. On which island, whose name appeared in the European and Japanese release titles, does the game take place?

Answer: Flickies' Island

Little birds known as Flickies live on this mysterious island. Upon hearing rumours that these birds had some connection to the Chaos Emeralds, the evil Dr. Eggman sought the island, and he soon discovered the secret of the Flickies (they are from another dimension). In an effort to harness their power, Dr. Eggman captured all the birds and put them into robot 'Badniks'.
2. The birds on this island come in different colours. Which of these ISN'T a colour the birds come in?

Answer: Yellow

Blue Flickies always try to find Sonic. If they can't find him, they fly around in a tight circle, making them easy to spot.

Pink Flickies (orange in the Mega Drive version) act mostly like blue ones, but if they can't find Sonic they fly around in bigger circles.

Red Flickies constantly move between two close points, and don't make any effort to find Sonic. They jump very high and can be hard to catch.

Green Flickies wander randomly and seem to have no interest in finding Sonic.
3. How do you get to a Bonus Stage?

Answer: Pay a certain character 50 rings

Tails and Knuckles are hidden in each level, when you give either of them fifty rings (by having at least 50 rings collected when you touch them) you get to go to a Bonus Stage.

There are fourteen possible Bonus Stages in the game (seven each for Tails and Knuckles), with the colour scheme the only real difference between them. But there are only seven Chaos Emeralds that can be collected in these Bonus Stages, and while the emeralds are not required to complete the game, getting all of them does unlock the "Final Fight" Zone - a single Act with just a boss battle against Dr. Eggman's final weapon, a multi-capable robot.
4. Are Tails and Knuckles in this game?

Answer: Yes

Tails and Knuckles are findable on every level of the game, but they are non-playable characters. They are only there to access the bonus stages, and earn the chance to acquire the seven emeralds needed to access the "Final Fight" Zone.
5. How many Sonic Medals do you need to get a 'Continue' (allowing you to start where you left off if you lose all your lives)?

Answer: Ten

Sonic Medals are found throughout the game, except in the Gene Gadget Zone and Panic Puppet Zone. In many cases, Sonic needs to jump on a spring to reach them, and to get maximum jumping ability to reach the Medal, Sonic needs to have collected five Flickies (that follow wherever you go).

If you do lose all of your lives, you have ten seconds to decide if you want to use the 'Continue' and pick up where you left off.
6. On which of these gaming platforms did "Sonic 3D Blast" NOT appear?

Answer: Master System

The Sega Master System console was an 8-bit third generation that was released in North America in September of 1986, and ceased production in 1992, thus predating "Sonic 3D Blast" by four years.

In addition to the Sega platform releases in the late 1990s, the game has been included in various PC releases, as well as in Sonic compilations with Nintendo and Sony systems, as well.
7. Which of these Item Boxes (aka 'Monitors') doesn't appear in "Sonic Blast 3D"?

Answer: Magnetic Shield

The Magnetic Shield, which allows Sonic to magnetically attracts rings for a short time, does not appear in this game.

The Item Boxes that appear in this game include:

Rings (gives 10 rings automatically)
Blue Shield (protects Sonic from one hit, and no rings are lost)
Gold Shield (acts like the Blue Shield, but also gives a Sonic Blast Attack)
Red Shield (protects like the Blue Shield, but also makes Sonic impervious to fire/lava)
Power Sneakers (gives Sonic super speed for a short time)
Invincible (temporarily protects from harm while also giving ability to defeat most enemies by touching them)
Extra Life (as you expect)
8. What is the colourful name of the first Zone?

Answer: Green Grove Zone

There are seven Zones in the game, each comprised of two regular Acts plus one short Boss Fight Act. In order in the game, they are:

Green Grove
Rusty Ruin
Spring Stadium
Diamond Dust
Volcano Valley
Gene Gadget
Panic Puppet

And, as previously mentioned, there is a possibility of finding an eighth Zone, which is just a Boss Fight, and is only reachable if all seven Chaos Emeralds are found in the different Bonus Stages.
9. When Sonic is turned into an ice cube, he loses rings.

Answer: False

Badniks sometimes use a freezing weapon, which will encase Sonic in a block of ice. When that happens, Sonic just slides along, often crashing through otherwise dangerous obstacles. You do not lose any rings.

In order to escape the ice cube, the 'jump' button must be pushed repeatedly, eventually breaking Sonic's icy prison.
10. Which of these do you NOT collect in this game?

Answer: Golden discs

Sonic the Hedgehog is known for collecting rings as part of the gameplay, and "Sonic Blast 3D" is no exception. And, as previously mentioned in this quiz, Sonic can also collect up to seven Chaos Emeralds, which will enable the eighth 'Zone' boss battle. Of course, "Sonic Blast 3D" takes place on Flickies' Island, and much of the gameplay involves freeing the birds from the Badnik robotic bodies, collecting them, and depositing them into the Dimensional Ring that Dr. Eggman discovered at the beginning.
