Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which female character from the "Metal Gear Solid" series was revealed to be Ocelot's mother?

Answer: The Boss

The Boss was an American war hero and a mentor to Naked Snake (Big Boss). She led her unit during the Battle of Normandy during World War II. In "Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater" (PS2), The Boss was caught in an unfortunate political situation in which the American government was forced to frame her for defecting and set her up to be assassinated by her former protégé Naked Snake. During the final battle of "Metal Gear Solid 3", The Boss told Naked Snake that she had been pregnant during the Battle of Normandy and due to injuries she sustained was forced to gave birth on the battlefield.

It was not directly revealed to players during the game who she gave birth to, but there were hints hidden in other characters' dialogues. The game's creator Hideo Kojima later confirmed to fans that the person who was born that day was in fact Ocelot. Ocelot would become a major antagonist in the "Metal Gear Solid" series.
2. Which male character from "Metal Gear Solid 3" is believed to be Ocelot's biological father?

Answer: The Sorrow

The unit that The Boss commanded during World War II was the Cobra Unit, a group of Russian soldiers with unique abilities. Each one adopted a code name based on an emotion they brought to the battlefield. The Boss was known as The Joy in the Cobra Unit.

The Sorrow was a member of the Cobra Unit who had the ability to communicate with the dead. The Sorrow also had a romantic relationship with The Boss. Several years before the events of "Metal Gear Solid 3" (which was set in 1964), The Boss was caught up in another political conspiracy in which she was forced to assassinate The Sorrow.

The Sorrow made several appearances as a ghost during "Metal Gear Solid 3". At times, he would provide the player some hints if he/she looked hard enough. Naked Snake would eventually engage The Sorrow in a boss "fight" after escaping from Groznyj Grad. During the "battle", The Sorrow would attack Snake using psychic blasts as he walked along a shallow river.

In addition, if Snake killed anyone earlier in the game, they would come back as ghosts which Snake needed to avoid. Eventually, Snake would stumble upon The Sorrow's corpse.
3. During the events of "Metal Gear Solid 3", which of these organizations was Ocelot not involved with?

Answer: MI6

In "Metal Gear Solid 3", Ocelot was revealed to be a triple agent, a spy with conflicting loyalties. When Snake first met Ocelot, he was a Major in the Soviet special forces unit, the Spetsnaz GRU. During the Virtuous Mission, he was tasked by the GRU to recover weapons scientist Dr. Nikolai Sokolov for the Soviet Union. Later in the game, it was revealed that Ocelot was the CIA spy codenamed ADAM who Snake was supposed to have met up with during Operation Snake Eater. Ocelot had infiltrated the GRU in order to get close to the action in Tselinoyarsk.

It was also revealed that Ocelot had ties to the KGB (the Russian secret intelligence agency) as well, whom he contacted during a monologue heard after the game's final credits rolled. The MI6 is an intelligence organization belonging to the United Kingdom.
4. Following Ocelot's first encounter with Naked Snake in "Metal Gear Solid 3", which of these became Ocelot's preferred weapon?

Answer: Colt Single Action Army

When Naked Snake first encountered Ocelot in "Metal Gear Solid 3", Ocelot managed to impress Snake with his flashy firearm techniques. Snake told him, "You're pretty good", a comment that Ocelot took to heart, sparking a rivalry between the two of them.

Despite Ocelot's technique, his initial choice of firearm (a semi-automatic pistol) left him at a disadvantage as the gun ended up jamming on him, giving Snake the opportunity to take him out using CQC. Snake commented to Ocelot that his technique was better suited for a revolver rather than a pistol.

In their next encounter, Ocelot began using a Colt Single Action Army as his firearm of choice. The Single Action Army would be Ocelot's preferred weapon for the rest of the "MGS" storyline. During the events of the original "Metal Gear Solid" (PS1), Revolver Ocelot said that the Single Action Army was "the greatest handgun ever made".
5. In "Metal Gear Solid 3", Ocelot enjoyed playing Russian Roulette with his guns. What did he do to make his version more devious?

Answer: Juggled the guns as he fired

Ocelot eventually got into the habit of carrying more than one gun with him to increase the amount of shots he could take since the Single Action Army could only load six bullets at a time. At several points during "Metal Gear Solid 3", he would antagonize other characters by playing Russian Roulette with them.

He would place one bullet into one of three Single Action Army revolvers. He would then start juggling the guns and would fire one of them as he caught it. He did this to Dr. Sokolov (who soiled himself in fear before The Boss confiscated the weapon).

He also did this to Eva while she was being interrogated by Colonel Volgin (which resulted in Snake's right eye being shot out). Ocelot also did this during his final duel with Naked Snake.

He loaded his "special" bullet into one of two guns and juggled them before making Snake choose one.
6. Which of these is a nickname that was earned by Ocelot due to his actions during the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan?

Answer: Shalashaska

Revolver Ocelot was involved with the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan which began in 1979, five years before the events of "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain" (PS3/PS4/XB360/XB1/PC). His sadistic tactics against the Afghan soldiers led him to be labeled "Shalashaska", a combination of Russian slang words meaning "forced labor camp" and "sword". During the late 70's and early 80's, Ocelot became involved with keeping the location of Big Boss (formerly Naked Snake) a secret after he was injured in 1975 following the events of "Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes" (PS3/PS4/XB360/XB1/PC). Once Big Boss came out of his coma, he and Ocelot had one of Big Boss' soldiers (who was also injured during Ground Zeroes) surgically altered into a body double named Venom Snake.

The double was brainwashed into believing he was the real Big Boss. Ocelot would help Venom Snake build the Diamond Dogs organization.
7. Which character was being guarded by Revolver Ocelot when Solid Snake encountered him in the original "Metal Gear Solid"?

Answer: Kenneth Baker

Gamers were first introduced to the character Revolver Ocelot in "Metal Gear Solid" released for the original Sony PlayStation in 1998. He was involved with the incident on Shadow Moses Island (set in the year 2005). Ocelot was part of the special forces unit FOXHOUND who took over the facility.

They had demanded that the American government turn over the remains of Big Boss, who was thought to have been killed during the events of "Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake" (MSX2). FOXHOUND had threatened to launch a nuke using Metal Gear REX, which was being developed at Shadow Moses. Solid Snake (one of Big Boss' cloned sons) was sent to Shadow Moses to stop them. ArmsTech President Kenneth Baker was one of the hostages being held at the facility and was being guarded by Revolver Ocelot. Solid Snake engaged Revolver Ocelot in a gun fight upon arriving at the facility's armory.
8. Which one of Ocelot's arms was severed by the Cyborg Ninja in the original "Metal Gear Solid"?

Answer: Right

The Cyborg Ninja was revealed to be former FOXHOUND agent Frank Jaeger (aka Grey Fox), who was thought to have been killed during the events of "Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake". Grey Fox was obsessed in dueling with Solid Snake and followed him to Shadow Moses Island.

While he initially seemed to be an antagonist, the Cyborg Ninja was secretly helping Solid Snake complete his mission. The Cyborg Ninja interfered in the battle between Revolver Ocelot and Solid Snake by severing Ocelot's right arm (his dominant arm) with his sword.
9. In addition to being a master sharpshooter, Ocelot had a knack for interrogation. How did he torture Solid Snake in the original "Metal Gear Solid"?

Answer: electrocution

Revolver Ocelot had an affinity for interrogation, which he may have learned from Colonel Volgin. During the Shadow Moses incident, Solid Snake had been captured by the FOXHOUND terrorists. Ocelot decided to strap him to a vertical bed designed to zap him with 4,000 volts of electricity. Players of "Metal Gear Solid" may have had a hard time during this part of the game as it required some serious button mashing to get past the torture scene in order to get the "good" ending of the game. Ocelot used this method to try and interrogate DARPA chief Donald Anderson (aka Sigint from MGS3), who was working on Metal Gear REX, but accidentally killed him after giving him too much juice.
10. Revolver Ocelot's severed arm would later be replaced by surgically attaching another slain character's arm? Who's arm was it?

Answer: Liquid Snake

The mastermind behind the attack on Shadow Moses Island was Liquid Snake, another of Big Boss' cloned sons and the brother of Solid Snake. Liquid was killed after eventually succumbing to the FOXDIE virus Solid Snake had implanted in him. Later, Revolver Ocelot would graft Liquid Snake's right arm onto his body to replace the one severed by the Cyborg Ninja.

After the grafting, Ocelot's personality began to change as Liquid's personality seemed to be taking over Ocelot's mind. His personality would constantly shift during the events of "Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty" (PS2). Liquid Snake's personality would eventually become dominant and Liquid Ocelot would become the primary antagonist in "Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of The Patriots" (PS3). Later, it would be revealed that Ocelot was brainwashed into thinking he was Liquid Snake to fool the Patriots.
