Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Gossip Stones are a common find in the later "Zelda" games. With a certain item, you can make them shoot up, like a rocket. Which item is this?

Answer: Bombs

When hit with a bomb, the Gossip stone flashes in a '3, 2, 1 - blast off!' manner. It flashes blue a few times, then red when it is ready to take off with a burst of fire beneath it!
The others will simply bring about a bounce and cause the stone to speak 'Boing-boing! The current time is..." and then the time of day in the game.
2. In both "Ocarina of Time" and "Twilight Princess", you can use odd little tactics to defeat Ganondorf in battle. Which item is it, in "Ocarina of Time", which you can use to defeat him?

Answer: Empty Bottle

In "Ocarina of Time", an empty bottle can be used to deflect Ganondorf's lightning magic back at him in your little game of magic-ball-tennis. Though this is possible, you do still have to use the Light Arrows to bring him down to the floor, and a sword to cause damage.
The fishing rod is used in "Twilight Princess" to distract him.
3. When attacking Cuccos, how many hits is the usual number of hits one can take, before summoning the 'Cucco Revenge Squad' (in its original game)?

Answer: Thirty

Everyone is well aware of this 'fun fact', but not many know how many times one must hit the Cucco.
While the number of hits does occasionally vary from game to game, the average amount of hits a Cucco can take, is 30, with a normal weapon. If you use a stronger weapon, it may take less hits, like if you attack with a weaker weapon, it may take more.
Thirty is the amount of hits it takes in "A Link to the Past" - the game which introduced the Cucco Revenge Squad to us in both the light and dark worlds, on the SNES.
4. The phrase "Keep it a secret to everybody" has been a recurring phrase in the "Zelda" series. Who was the first person to say it?

Answer: A Moblin

The phrase has been used by countless characters through out the series, however, there are a few that people remember most.
The first is a Moblin in the original "Legend of Zelda" game for the NES. He gives you rupees, and doesn't want to be like the other Moblins, but wants you to keep his kind-hearted nature from the others for him.
In "A Link to the Past", there is a man in the Desert of Mystery who says it to Link, after giving him the Magic Bottle inside a locked chest in which he opened, to keep his identity safe.
In "Ocarina of Time", you hear it after bribing the guard at the gate to Hyrule Castle, to let you into the castle grounds.
In "Majora's Mask", Kafei asks Link to keep their conversation in his home a secret.
In "Twilight Princess", in Hyrule Castle Town, you can speak with a Goron, who sees the gold force around the castle, who claims to have kept it a secret from everyone.
5. Which is the first 3D game in which Link does not use anything to create music?

Answer: Phantom Hourglass

It is not the first game where he doesn't play an instrument, but the first 3D game that does not require Link to have any musical talent to make things happen, or travel with more haste. In this game, most events are triggered automatically, or with secret switches, certain item use, etc. For faster travel speeds, you can find throughout the Great Sea, golden frogs, that teach you symbols to draw on a stone tablet. Each symbol corresponds with a different area of one of the four Sea Charts.
6. In "Skyward Sword", blue butterflies are a good luck. They are often pointers to secret Sheikah Stones, as well as helpful Goddess Walls. To make these two things appear, Link must do what?

Answer: Play the harp

Playing the harp causes the butterflies to gather, when they do, either a Sheikah Stone will come up from the ground, or the Goddess' mark will appear on the wall.
Sheikah Stones are like the Gossip Stones from previous "Zelda" games, and will give you neat little hints for future reference or connections you may not have thought of.
Goddess Walls are helpful features that when you charge a Skyward Strike after making the mark appear, you can draw on the wall and the item you draw will appear before you - You can draw anything on the wall, of course, but there are five in particular. Circles will give you fifteen bombs, hexagons will give you 10x (green, blue occasionally red) Rupees, hearts will give you ten hearts, an arrow, for fifteen arrows, and a triforce to bring out three fairies. Any other shape will give you three hearts.

You may still summon both, even if you catch all the butterflies before you do.
7. Link is primarily right-handed.

Answer: False

Though in "Skyward Sword" and the Wii version of "Twilight Princess", Link uses his right hand (unless you, yourself, are left handed), Link has always been left handed, since the very beginning of the "Zelda" series. Even in the NES games, Link held his sword in his left hand, and shield in his right. He drew his bow string with his left hand, played his instruments left handed (save in "Majora's Mask", while wearing the Zora Mask; because while technically Link, he was taking on the spirit of Mikau, who was obviously, at least a right handed guitarist.)
8. A creepy gray hand has appeared reaching out from a toilet and requesting toilet paper. How many games have they been in?

Answer: More than twice

The hand, also known as "???" in the games, has been in "Majora's Mask", "Oracle of Ages", and "Skyward Sword", always requesting something to use as toilet paper. Though a little disturbing, it's up to Link to save the poor soul's day, by giving it some sort of paper to use. In "Majora's Mask", you have the choice of giving him or her the Land deeds to a Deku Flower in South Clock Town, the letter to Kafei from Anju, or Express Mail, recieving a Piece of Heart in return.

In "Oracle Ages", you can give the hand Stationary, which in return s/he will give you a stink bag to help a Tokay with sinus problems.

In "Skyward Sword", you can give the hand(actually given a gender in this game), a love letter from Cawlin, meant for Karane. She mistakes it as the letter being for her, and strokes him in his sleep from then on, gaining you five gratitude crystals in return.
9. In "Twilight Princess", the fishing hole is owned and run by a woman named Hena. She has a picture of the fisherman from "Ocarina of Time" hanging on the wall in her cabin. If you look from the picture to her, what is she doing that reminds the player of the man?

Answer: Scratching

Hena has an itch that just won't go away! She scratches her back regularly, and believes that this itch, as well as her love for fishing, are key points to her being a descendant of the Fisherman from "Ocarina of Time".
10. The Race of Oocca from "Twilight Princess" were designed after a piece of work by M.C. Escher. Which piece was it?

Answer: "Another World"

M.C. Escher's painting "Another World" is a beautiful piece of art - while depicting creatures that look very much like the Oocca of "Zelda: Twilight Princess".
Three bird-like creatures, with bald, human heads stand around a three-dimensional structure, all at different angles. The structure is supposedly floating, as it's surroundings are in outer space. While the Oocca who reside within the City in the Sky, live in a floating structure, and are able to walk up walls.
11. In "Link's Awakening" it is possible to steal items from a shop, and 'borrow' them for the rest of the game. What will your name be turned to if you successfully do this?

Answer: Thief

Regardless of what you name Link in the beginning of the game, his name will be changed to Thief if you steal from any shop. Of course, if you return to the shop, even for a friendly hello and maybe even to pay the shop owner back, you won't get to, because lucky Link! He'll get inevitably killed by a laser beam!.... Fun right?
12. You can bottle water, you can pour it on pumpkins! You can pour it on people! But you can't do much else with it... Which game has basically no use for bottled water?

Answer: Twilight Princess

In "Skyward Sword", Bottled Water has a key role in the Fire Sanctuary. In "Majora's Mask", you can water the Magic Bean plants to ride. In "Minish Cap", you can water Bean stalks! Even "Wind Waker" has uses for it, like restoring wilted plants on Dragon Roost Island!
"Twilight Princess", on the other hand, has come up with a whole new useless item for Link! The bottled water. If it's hotspring water, it can restore hearts, but if it's just plain ol' water, then all you can really do with it is water pumpkins and make people look at you weird when you dump it on them.
13. Ooccoo, the friendly Oocca from "Twilight Princess", who allows you to teleport out of temples, has an interesting name... 00CC00, is an important colour code to the original "Legend of Zelda" game. What was this colour used for?

Answer: Link's Tunic

00CC00 is the green used for Link's Tunic in the original "Legend of Zelda". Though it's likely just a coincidence, since Ooccoo is a play on the race name, Oocca, and likely nothing more (unless they -did- do it on purpose, in which case... awesome).
14. The night sky in "Twilight Princess" is actually an accurate representation of our own sky.

Answer: True

The sky is quite accurate down to the brightness of stars and constellations. The moon moves, but the stars stay still in the sky.
15. The Fortune Teller in Hyrule Market Town in "Twilight Princess" says something for a chant. The chant is backwards English; what does she say?

Answer: "Wait... Loading takes a while."

When you select the "Love" fortune, "Elihw a sekat gnidaol... Tiaw." is her chant.
