Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Lahaina Beach, Hawaii

Answer: Napoleonfish

Napoleonfish, or Humphead Wrasse, are found in a wide variety of habitats around the world from the Red Sea to The Great Barrier Reef.
They can easily be identified by the distinctive hump on the forehead.
They are currently listed as endangered on the IUCN Red List, so better just catch them on your phone!
2. Minnetonka Beach, Minnetonka

Answer: Rainbow Trout

"Oncorhynchus mykiss", or Rainbow Trout, is one of the most common of the trout species and occur on every continent apart from Antarctica.
Also sometimes called a Steelhead Trout, they make excellent eating and are farmed extensively.
3. Philippine Sea, Pacific

Answer: Tarpon

Tarpon are prized as one of the hardest fighting fish by anglers and are therefore the subject of many fishing trips, but they are not commercially important.
There are two unique species, the Atlantic Tarpon and the Indo-Pacific Tarpon. These fish are unique in that they are classified as obligate air breathers, meaning that they have to rise to the surface to take gulps of air which is processed by their swim bladders.
4. Pacific Ocean, Pacific

Answer: Great White Shark

Probably the most famous shark, Carcharodon carcharias has been the "bad guy" in myth and movies, not always justifiably.
The species evolved from prehistoric sharks like "Megalodon" and even now can grow to sizes of 6 metres and more, and weigh as much as a ton.
They are however described as "vulnerable" on the IUCN Red List and should never be caught intentionally.
5. Amazon River, Amazon

Answer: Pirarucu

The king of the Amazon, the Pirarucu can grow to be as big as 3 meters and weigh up to 200kg. They are an exploited species and there is not a lot of data available on how many remain in the wild.
6. Rio Negro, Amazon

Answer: Redtail Catfish

Another giant of the Amazon, the Redtail Catfish can reach lengths of 2 meters. They are easily identifiable by the distinctive red tail, contrasted by the white and green of the body.
It is a popular angling fish but is not considered edible.
7. Neapolitan, Mediterranean Sea

Answer: Blackfin Tuna

Part of the "Thunnus" family of fish, the Blackfin Tuna is one of the smaller tunas, and not considered under threat as species like the Yellowfin Tuna are. This is due to their size which makes them commercially unattractive.
They do make excellent eating and comprises many a sushi plate.
8. Menorca Mahon, Mediterranean Sea

Answer: Sleeper Shark

The Sleeper Shark is a widespread "lazy" shark, due to its slow movement and apparent lethargy. They are part of the family that also contains Greenland Sharks, which are thought to be able to reach ages of 200 years and up.
9. Algerian Bejaia, Mediterranean Sea

Answer: Fox Shark

Fox shark is perhaps the lesser well-known name of the Thresher Shark- named that way because of its long, thresher-like tail.
The tail is used as a weapon by stunning their prey, much like orcas are known to do.
Sadly, this shark is one of the main victims of overfishing in the sharkfin soup industry.
10. Guilin Li River, China

Answer: Black Arowana

In what may be a bit of an inaccuracy, this South American fish is mainly found in the Orinoco basin, even though they are portrayed here as endemic to China. There are however a species of Asian Arowana, so perhaps it is not too much of an error.
Arowanas are sometimes called water monkeys for their habit of jumping to catch prey.
