'Zelda: Oracle of Seasons' Equipment List Quiz

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This handy tool "Shoots in three directions." Can you tell what it is?

Answer: Hyper Slingshot

The Hyper Slingshot is acquired in the final dungeon of the game, the Sword and Shield Dungeon. It is an upgrade of the previous Slingshot that Link found earlier in the game. The Hyper Slingshot allows Link to send three magical seeds of the same type towards a target. Despite sending out three seeds at once, it is actually counted as only one seed used.

This weapon is very effective, as it can kill or damage up to three monsters in one move. Link can also hit three targets in a dungeon, which can open a door or reveal a chest needed to move on in the game.
2. The item described as "A strength booster" is a Power Necklace.

Answer: False

Sorry, not quite - it's actually named a Power Bracelet. The Power Bracelet is found in the second dungeon of the game, Snake's Remains. Not only does it allow Link to pick up pots, signs and rocks, it allows him to push heavy things, such as pots and blocks, and pull levers. Before Link found this item, he was unable to push heavy objects; a message would pop up saying "Oof! That's heavy!". However, after he finds the Power Bracelet, he does not even need to equip it to push heavy items like blocks.

In 'Oracle of Ages', the Power Bracelet is upgradeable and becomes Power Gloves - "Used to lift large objects", like large blue statues.
3. Which item is "A handy tool"?

Answer: Shovel

The shovel is an indispensable tool in both 'Oracle of Ages' and 'Seasons'. You can use it to dig up hearts, fairies and rupees (unfortunately, also monsters like snakes and spiders), when you are desperate for them. You can also dig up a big blue rupee this way, which is a welcome 100 rupees, and find the Star-Shaped Ore Chunk on the Subrosian beaches. The shovel is also handy in defeating Spiked Beetles when you don't have a shield.

You can find the shovel in Woods of Winter in 'Seasons'. A girl named Holly gives it to you in exchange for shovelling the snow from around her doorway.
4. The Roc's Cape is the upgraded version of the Roc's Feather. What is the description for Roc's Cape?

Answer: A wind-riding cape

You find Roc's Feather in the game's third dungeon, Poison-Moth's Lair, and it gives Link the ability to jump! With it, he can hop over water and holes in the ground. Combined with Pegasus seeds, he can jump longer distances. In the game's penultimate dungeon, Explorer's Crypt, Link obtains the Roc's Cape, which allows him to do a double jump and travel even further with Pegasus seeds.

There are no attribute points, such as wisdom, in this game, nor can Link become invisible.
5. Described as "Magnetically attractive!", what does Link use to attract and repel magnetic balls and monsters?

Answer: Magnetic Gloves

The Magnetic Gloves are handy, because you can use them to repel magnetic balls into monsters to kill them and to push magnetic balls onto floor switches to open doors in dungeons. You find the gloves in the level Unicorn's Cave, and you use them extensively to solve puzzles and to defeat the dungeon's boss.

The Magnetic Gloves aren't in 'Oracle of Ages'; instead, Link utilises the Cane of Somaria, which creates blocks. The other possible answers don't exist in either game.
6. Which of these seeds is described as an "Evil-cleansing sacred seed"?

Answer: Maku Seed

Deku seeds don't exist, Ember seeds are used to burn small trees and light lamps, and Mystery seeds have many mysterious results. Only Maku tree seeds can clear away the evil Onyx creates around his castle in 'Seasons'. (There are similar results in 'Ages'.) Link collects the Essences of Nature throughout Holodrum, and the Maku Tree is able to make a giant seed with immense power.
7. Link always receives the item described as "A flute for calling Dimitri" in every 'Oracle of Seasons' game.

Answer: False

This is false, for both 'Seasons' and 'Ages'. You can receive either Dimitri's Flute, Ricky's Flute or Moosh's Flute. They are all animal companions, and, whenever possible, will come to Link if he plays the flute. Dimitri, Ricky and Moosh can help Link to overcome obstacles - for example Dimitri can swim over deep water and up waterfalls, Ricky can jump over single holes in the ground and jump up cliffs, and Moosh can jump over multiple holes. You meet all of these animals throughout the game, but only one will give you their flute.

It is entirely dependent on whether you obtain a Mystery Flute and how you obtain it, if at all.
8. This piece of equipment instructs you to "Hit the beach"! What is this useful item?

Answer: Zora's Flippers

In 'Seasons', Link receives Zora's Flippers from the Master Diver in Sunken City, after swimming up the adjacent waterfall with Dimitri and completing the challenge. They enable him to swim by himself, which he was unable to do before. This makes navigating Sunken City much easier!

Ironically, there isn't a sea Link can swim in - he just uses these Flippers to swim in lakes and rivers. In 'Ages', however, Link gets much more use out of the Flippers, and goes swimming in much deeper waters.
9. Can you guess which tool fits the description "A remote-control weapon"?

Answer: Magic Boomerang

The Magic Boomerang started out as a regular Boomerang, obtained from winning the Subrosian Dance. In the dungeon Ancient Ruins, this is upgraded to the Magic Boomerang. You can control the path of this weapon with the arrow pad of the Game Boy, which makes hitting switches and defeating monsters much, much easier.

The Magic Boomerang doesn't feature in 'Ages' - instead Link finds a Switch Hook. While a bow and arrow may be used in other Zelda games, it is not actually a weapon found in either 'Oracle' game.
10. This item is "Best used from atop a stump" - can you work out what this is?

Answer: Rod of Seasons

The Rod of Seasons is exclusive to 'Oracle of Seasons' - its counterpart in 'Oracle of Ages' is the Harp of Ages. You find the Rod of Seasons in the Temple, after it has fallen into Subrosia, and seek to visit the spirits of Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall. When standing on a tree stump, which are strategically placed around Holodrum, you can change the season using the rod.

In Winter, trees are narrow and there are patches of ice; in Spring, flowers bud and spring bananas grow; in Summer vines grow and water evaporates, and in Fall, mushrooms ripen and leaves cover holes in the ground. Also, the mystical seeds Link collects grow in different seasons.
