Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. When an evil General kidnaps Din, the Oracle of Seasons, the Temple of Seasons descends underground into what lava-filled domain?

Answer: Subrosia

Link is able to enter the underground world of Subrosia, a lava-laden locale filled with hooded creatures who mine ore and bathe in lava pools, by entering through blue portals found throughout the game world, Holodrum. Some of these require help from characters to access and some can only be opened from the Subrosian side. Nevertheless, Link needs to come here between dungeons to speak to locals, persist with the trading sequence, and access the Temple of Seasons to power up his special rod. If you're lucky, you may come across a ring in the game that can transform you into a hooded Subrosian figure. You can't attack in this form, however; it's just for cosmetic purposes.
2. Which season is the first to have its powers added to the Rod of Seasons?

Answer: Winter

Heading to Subrosia before the entering the second dungeon, Link comes across the Temple of Seasons and is given the Rod of Seasons which, when he attains the powers bestowed upon him, can shift seasons when used on designated tree stumps found all around the world map.

The first season obtained is Winter and when Link transforms the land into a snowy wonderland he is able to shovel snow piles, walk on frozen waterways, and climb large, snowed-up areas. Other seasonal powers are obtained before the proceeding three dungeons; after Winter comes Summer, Spring, and then Fall. Each has different attributes which will help Link on his journey.
3. Where do you find the Star-Shaped Ore required to buy a Ribbon for Rosa?

Answer: On a beach

Before heading to the third dungeon of the game, Link needs to head underground to get the power of Summer, but the door to this particular part of the Temple of Seasons is locked and requires a key. The only person with this key is Rosa, a Subrosian celebrity who happens to be missing her favourite ribbon having lost it at sea. To get a new Ribbon from the local market, Link needs to dig up a piece of Star-Shaped Ore on the beach in Subrosia and trade for it.

When Rosa gets her Ribbon, she'll unlock any doors you want as long as you visit her on the beach and meet her for a date.
4. What item is required to enter the fourth dungeon of the game, the Dancing Dragon Dungeon?

Answer: Zora Flippers

Heading northeast, Link will visit the Sunken Village, a flooded town containing a few houses and a number of waterfalls. To head north through this city, Link needs to find one of the elders of the region inside a waterfall and complete his challenge to get a pair of Zora Flippers.

These will allow Link to swim (as opposed to simply drop like a rock in water). This is extremely important for the fourth dungeon of the game; swimming is required to both access and complete the stage. In this fourth dungeon, Link will obtain the Slingshot.
5. Which of these "Legend of Zelda" animals is not found in "Oracle of Seasons"?

Answer: Epona

In both "Oracle of Ages" and "Oracle of Seasons", Link comes across three different unique animals who help throughout the quests. Ricky, a kangaroo with boxing gloves, has a strong punch and a high jump; Dimitri, a Dodongo, can bite and swim; Moosh is a winged bear who can float over large gaps. One of these three tame creatures will be able to help Link at any given time if he receives or purchases a Strange Flute.

This is done at random, however. All three are used during the games in different places.

By the time you're halfway through Holodrum, you'll have been on all three.
6. The fifth dungeon of the game, the Unicorn's Cave, is found at a lake shaped like which of these items?

Answer: Eyeglasses

After attaining the final power, the power of Fall, Link can use this season to lift otherwise stone mushrooms and enter the game's fifth dungeon, the Unicorn's Cave. The name has little to do with the contents of the dungeon. Here, Link obtains the Magnetic Gloves and fights an odd eyeball creature at the end. Eyeglass Lake can be found east of the game's first dungeon and slightly northeast of the game's first portal to Subrosia. If you turn the season to Winter you can walk on most of the lake. Of course, by this time in the game you should be able to swim anyways.
7. How many stone keys does Link need to enter the Ancient Ruins, the game's sixth dungeon?

Answer: Four

The Ancient Ruins are in the northeast region of Holodrum and they're guarded by a gate which requires four keys to open. These can be found all over the map; one is a circle, one is a square, one's a pyramid, and one is an X. Once all four are inserted into their slots, Link can take the long, winding path to the dungeon (by shifting the seasons and following a complex maze).

The Ancient Ruins are home to the Magic Boomerang, the Lv-2 upgrade for the original item obtained in Subrosia. If you have trouble finding all four keys for the dungeon's gate, you can purchase a treasure map from the store in Horon Village. You must beat this dungeon to be able to start the journey to the seventh.
8. A specific bell is required to access the game's seventh dungeon, Explorer's Crypt. Where do you find this object?

Answer: A cave

After beating the sixth dungeon, the Explorer's Ruins, a group of pirate skeletons in Subrosia will consider you adventurous enough to take on the challenge of finding the captain's missing bell. This can be found in the Samasa Desert, and when it's all cleaned up, Link can head onward to Holodrum's graveyard and access the Explorer's Crypt.

This seventh dungeon contains Roc's Cape, the Lv-2 version of Roc's Feather found earlier in the cave. This item allows link to jump and glide far distances.
9. In the Sword and Shield Maze, the game's final dungeon, Link receives a new sword or shield.

Answer: False

The Sword and Shield Maze is quite unique as it's the only dungeon in the entire game to be located in Subrosia. To get there, Link needs to hop through all four seasons in the northern regions of Holodrum to find a cave containing the portal to the northwest corner of Subrosia at which the Sword and Shield Maze is located.

The top half of this dungeon is filled with ice while the basement is filled with lava and fire. Successful navigation of this dungeon will allow Link to claim the Lv-3 Slingshot, the Hyper Slingshot, which can shoot three seeds in one shot. Finishing this labyrinth will bring Link to a Medusa Head boss and will mean that he can head to the game's final boss.
10. Who is the final boss of the game who Link must defeat to save Din?

Answer: Onox

Found in the north of Holodrum, Link must travel to Onox's Castle only after he's finished the eight dungeons of the game and reclaimed the eight essences at the end of each and after he's spoken to the Maku Tree in Horon Village. General Onox will be found in the game's final chamber at which a battle will ensue. Onox, up until the final battle, seems to be encased in a large suit of armour, but in all actuality he's a malevolent dragon.

He'll pull out all the stops in the final battle (including using Din to protect him from oncoming fire) but if defeated, Holodrum will be saved. Of course, this is only one story in the "Zelda" canon, and Link will need to be called back into action in time.
