1. What does 'konban wa' mean?

Answer: good evening

Good morning is 'ohayougozaimasu' ('ohayo' or 'oha' for short), good night is 'oyasuminasai' ('oyasumi' for short) and good afternoon is 'konnichiwa'.
2. What is the word for genius?

Answer: tensai

'Baka' is fool, 'obake' is ghost and 'tamanegi' is onion.
3. How many scripts are there in the Japanese language?

Answer: 3

Kanji, Katakana, and Hiragana are the three scripts. Kanji is a logographic system, while the other two are both syllabic.
4. Which of these is not a season?

Answer: kikyuu

'Natsu' is Summer, 'aki' is Autumn and 'haru' is Spring. 'Kikyuu' means 'hot air balloon'.
5. What is the polite form of 'yomu'?

Answer: yomimasu

'Yomimasu' or 'yomu' is the verb 'to read', eg. 'hon wo yomimasu'.
6. Which one of the following words represents an animal name in Japanese?

Answer: zou

'Zou' means elephant, 'pan' is bread, 'ringo' is apple and 'koushou' is factory.
7. 'Kumo' is the word for spider and....?

Answer: cloud

These two have the same reading, but are both written differently as Kanji. The Kanji for cloud is similar to the one for rain. Kumori means 'cloudy weather'.
8. 'Ame' is the word for rain and....?

Answer: lollies

Once again these two have the same reading but are written very differently as Kanji. 'Ame ga suki desu' can mean 'I like rain' or 'I like lollies'. The Kanji for rain is similar to the Kanji for cloud.
9. What is the general word for 'I'?

Answer: watashi

'Haha' means my mum, 'anata' means you, and 'tori' means bird.
10. Finally, what's the word for hawk?

Answer: taka
