Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. If you were flying in from JFK International Airport in Queens, you might find yourself taking the AirTrain to one of the subway lines. While the AirTrain can take you directly to all four of the following lines, three of the four meet the AirTrain at the same station. Which of the lines is the odd one out?

Answer: A

The E, J, and Z lines meet the AirTrain at Sutphin Boulevard and Archer Avenue, while you'd have to take the A train to the Howard Beach stop to get to the AirTrain. The E, J, and Z also all share an eastern terminus at Jamaica Center.
2. Seeing as you probably want to head into Manhattan, it might be convenient to take the most direct route possible. Of the four subway lines that connect to JFK Airport, which goes into Manhattan WITHOUT first entering another borough?

Answer: E

The A, J, and Z all enter Manhattan via Brooklyn. The E would probably be your best bet, making express stops in Queens and heading directly into Manhattan via 53rd Street.
3. Staying in Manhattan, you'd likely see entrances to several stations. In fact, every line in the NYC subway system has stops in Manhattan, with the exception of one. Which line does not make stops in Manhattan?

Answer: G

The G runs from Court Square in Long Island City to Church Avenue in Brooklyn without once entering Manhattan. This line is one of the less populated lines, and G trains usually consist of 5 cars instead of the usual 10 or 11.
4. If you're in New York in the summer, you may want to head to see the world-famous New York Yankees. Which of these subway trains does NOT take you to Yankee Stadium?

Answer: 7

The B and D run on the same track underground, and those riding the 4 above-ground have a clear view of the stadium before they even get off the train. Taking the 7 towards Queens will actually take you to Citi Field, home of the New York Mets.
5. If you're not into sports, you may want to head to City Hall. All of the subway trains have a "City Hall" stop, but which of them also makes stops at two of the four Borough Halls?

Answer: 4

The 4, 5, and R can all take you to the Brooklyn Borough Hall, just a few stops away. The 4, though, can also take you to the Bronx Borough Hall on Grand Concourse, just a short walk from the Yankee Stadium station.
6. The four lines below have a terminus in Queens and make stops in Manhattan. Heading into Manhattan, one train will eventually take you back into Queens. As a result, this train has the shortest distance between terminals. Which line am I referring to?

Answer: M

The two terminals on the M, Middle Village-Metropolitan Avenue and Forest Hills-71st Avenue are only about 2.5 miles apart. The line is fully local, though, making 36 stops along the way.
7. Which of these subway lines is the only one in New York City to make an above-ground stop in Manhattan?

Answer: 1

All four of these lines have above-ground stops elsewhere, but the 1 is the only to head above-ground in Manhattan. The 1 also is entirely above-ground in the Bronx until its northern terminus, Van Cortlandt Park.
8. Which of these New York streets appears in the most subway station names?

Answer: 23rd Street

There are five separate stations along 23rd Street in Manhattan. Along with the 23rd Street-Court Square station in Queens, the name "23rd Street" is shared by six different stations. The name "Broadway" does appear in three different boroughs (Bronx, Manhattan, Queens) though, the most of any name.
9. Which of these four New York subway lines does NOT travel on the same track along Central Park West?

Answer: E

The A, B, C, and D trains all travel along this track. The E train travels along the same track as the A and C trains as far north as 42nd Street, where it starts to head towards Queens.
10. Of all the buses that can take you to LaGuardia Airport, several of them make stops at stations along the 7 line. Which of these subway stations does NOT have a stop for a bus that goes to LaGuardia?

Answer: 103 Street - Corona Plaza

The 103 Street station is one of the only stations on the 7 line without a bus stop like this. It does, however, happen to be one of the closest stations to LaGuardia based on distance alone.
