Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In what year was the Rhinoceros Party founded?

Answer: 1963

The party was founded in 1963 by a group of Quebecois including Robert Charlebois and François Gourd.
2. Which province did the Rhinoceros Party say it wanted to pave over in order to create the world's largest parking lot?

Answer: Manitoba

Apparently, parking is a big issue in Saskatchewan and Western Ontario, or maybe the Party just thought that no one really uses Manitoba for anything, anyway.
3. What was the Party's main campaign promise?

Answer: To promise nothing

THe Party always has always ignored this promise and has made promises at every election.
4. How many members of parliament did the Rhinoceros Party get elected?

Answer: 0

Although the Party never had an elected MP, it was not rare for them to come second or third in a riding, beating out credible parties such as the Conservatives and NDP.
5. What language did the Party want to institute as Canada's third official language?

Answer: Illiteracy

This is one of the more satirical ideas that the Party came up with.
6. When the Rhinoceros Party wanted to impose an import quota on lousy winters, and get back to the four basic seasons, which of the following was not one of the seasons they mentioned?

Answer: Ketchup

The four seasons were salt, pepper, vinegar and mustard. The reasoning behind the quota on lousy winters was that "Canadians are sick of being God's frozen people."
7. In what large city did the party propose to turn an existing road into the world's longest bowling alley?

Answer: Montreal

The road was Montreal's Rue Sainte-Catherine. Considering how bad the traffic is in Montreal, it's probably a bad idea to take away any of the roads.
8. Why did the party want to breed a mosquito that would hatch in January?

Answer: So the "little buggers would freeze to death"

While an interesting idea, the summer mosquitoes would still be a problem.
9. The Party once suggested moving the Rocky Mountains one meter to the west as a job creation scheme.

Answer: Yes

It's as well that nobody ever went for this one, it would have been a hard project to finish.
10. In what year did the Party disband?

Answer: 1993

In 1993, the Election Act imposed a mandatory Canadian $1,000 fee and minimum of 50 running candidates for political parties to be officially recognised. The Rhinoceros Party boycotted the election in protest, and subsequently disbanded.
