Sukarno proclaimed an independent Indonesian republic in 1945. A failed Communist coup in 1965 led to an anti-Communist takeover by the military under Suharto, who was elected President in 1968.
2. Somoza, Ortega and Chamorro were leaders of what country?

Answer: Nicaragua

Somoza became President in 1937. Ortega was elected President in 1984, and Chamorro in 1990.
3. Khatami and Rafsanjani were leaders of what country?

Rafsanjani became President in 1989 and was re-elected President in 1993. Khatami was elected Iran's President in 1997.

Answer: Spain

Franco was 'caudillo' (leader) of Spain from 1939 until his death in 1975. In 1969, Franco appointed Prince Juan Carlos, grandson of Alfonso XIII, as his successor.
