Here's an object lesson. If you like a contract start working on it early. I thought that Contract 287 sounded interesting. I was able to come up fairly quickly with classifications and terms. Then I let it sit for a week or so. Yesterday I go back to the template and fill in my interesting information and submit it. A couple of hours later I see that Leith's quiz is online and the contract is claimed. As it should be. It was my own fault for letting the quiz lie fallow for so long. Don't be like Bernie, kids. :) If you see a contract you like, the odds are someone else likes it also. Reply #701. Feb 07 22, 12:43 PM |

Here's a question for Leith 90 about the newest contract. For the crossword puzzle, do the eight levels need to be mentioned by name: "Kingdom" or "Order" or "Species" and the others are actually on the grid. Or does having an example of each on the grid suffice: "Animalia", "Carnivora", etc.? Reply #702. Feb 07 22, 12:45 PM |

Sorry about the late reply Bernie, I'm unfortunately not on the site much on Tuesaday and Wednesday. The names, Kingdom, genus etc should be in the grid as answers. Examples would be excellent fillers. Reply #703. Feb 09 22, 5:24 AM |

I would like to claim Contract #288 - 1 point: Create a symmetric crossword containing every level of the taxonomic hierarchy (Domain, Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus and Species). The majority of fillers must be appropriate to the theme. No two letter words or IATA codes please (by Leith90). My "Taxonomy" crossword is online at: https://www.funtrivia.com/crossword/play.cfm?gid=9051 New Challenge: Choose a well-known author who has published at least three works. Construct a symmetric crossword puzzle whose answers include the full titles of three or more of those works. Other answers should focus on the author's life, times, characters, locations and situations. The puzzle must be submitted to Literature. No two-letter words or IATA codes, please. I created a "proof of concept" puzzle for this proposed challenge based on Virginia Woolf. It has just been submitted. Reply #704. Feb 11 22, 7:22 AM |

I would like to submit "Gone Girl" https://www.funtrivia.com/trivia-quiz/People/Gone-Girl-408062.html my quiz about Agatha Christie's 1926 "disappearance" for Contract #265 - 25 points: Write a thematic Agatha Christie quiz. The quiz should not be in the Literature, TV or Movies categories. (by Zorba_Scank) For the next contract I propose Write a quiz with a distinct connection to Arthur Conan Doyle. The quiz should not be in the Literature, TV or Movies categories. Reply #705. Feb 11 22, 9:57 AM |

I'd like to claim contract 263 - Write a quiz using the word ‘light’ in either each question or the correct answer for each question. The quiz must go into a sub-category that currently contains less than 15 quizzes; and choose the title from a Player Author Challenge. https://www.funtrivia.com/trivia-quiz/Music/Lightsaber-toothed-Cat-408017.html New contract: Write a 26 question multiple choice quiz in the Video Games Mixture category. Each question must involve a game that represents each letter of the alphabet. Reply #707. Feb 12 22, 6:25 PM |

Has Bernie73's "Gone Girl" quiz not been accepted as fulfilling the criteria for the "Agatha" contract? The reason I ask is it is still on the list yet the following quiz on "Light"' has been accepted and has been removed. If Gone Girl has been accepted then Bernie's new challenge needs to be inserted above RedHook13's new contract. Thanks Reply #708. Feb 13 22, 4:37 AM |

I would like to claim Contract #285 - 7 points: Construct a symmetric crossword which contains at least one clue relating to each of the sovereign states of Oceania which are full members of the Pacific Islands Forum. No two-letter words and at least 50% of the answers must have more than three letters. Puzzles must be submitted to Geography with any IATA codes used only for major (international) airports in the region. (by Psnz) for my crossword puzzle un-cleverly named "Contract #285" For the next contract, I would like to propose the following: Construct a crossword puzzle where every answer is a Roman numeral. I know this can be done because I have done it before. I am not requiring symmetry, however, because I don't think I had it in my crossword puzzle. Reply #711. Feb 15 22, 9:05 AM |

If I may recommend on contracts specifically, unless the title has a requirement to fulfill the contract, there should still be an effort to make a title that lets the player have info about what the puzzle's contents are (same goes for quizzes). In the Lounge here, we know what contracts are, but we're only a small part of the site. Someone looking for a quiz/crossword on a specific topic won't really have any idea if they look at the title, and for them, the Contract is irrelevant and arbitrary. Seeing 'Contract ###' on the news bar on the homepage doesn't really have a draw (to me it sounded like work to do, lol). As always, submissions placed online should always be considering the players. We aim to help users find your quizzes/CWs and play them from the get-go, so we should always be looking at things, from the outside, with their point of view. Reply #713. Feb 15 22, 2:03 PM |

"For the next contract, I would like to propose the following: Construct a crossword puzzle where every answer is a Roman numeral." It is too late for this contract, as puzzles have already been written, but for future - wearing my crossword editor's hat - I'd like to discourage this sort of contract UNLESS real words (e.g. MIX) or acronyms (e.g. CID) that can be made from the letters used for Roman numerals are required (even if they are not valid Roman numerals in themselves). Well I would like to claimContract #292 Construct a crossword puzzle where every answer is a Roman numeral. (by Bernie73) for what it was worth. This will be a one-off for me. I agree with SpanishLiz that it does not comprise words per se but it is an example of how letters fit together enhanced or rather compromised by the limited number of letters allowed (M D C L X V I) and by the Roman Numerals' lack of place value. I chose a simple grid but I have never had to delete and unpick so many clues (as repeated numbers eventuated due to lack of letter combinations). So from a cruciverbalist's crossword construction point of view it was a fascinating challenge. From a cruciverbalist's use of the lexicon, it had little merit. I am pleased I had the opportunity to attempt such a challenge but now it has been achieved we can move on to more conventional challenges). Reply #715. Feb 16 22, 4:10 PM |

New Challenge (to replace #292): Find a quiz with 10 single word correct answers options and either 1) insert those ten words into a crossword with a category other than General or the category you found said quiz. or 2) Write a quiz with the same 10 correct answer options (not necessarily in the same order) but in a completely different category (General and Brain Teasers excluded) Proof of concept for both options has been documented by Yours Truly. New Challenge (mentioned in #717) Wikipedia has an entry titled: "List of English words of Yiddish origin". Compile a symmetric crossword puzzle which contains at least 12 such words or phrases in either the clue or the answer. Submit the crossword to World. No two-letter words or IATA codes, please. You are not limited to words/phrases in the Wikipedia item. Other Yiddish terms that have found their way to English are also acceptable. Reply #718. Feb 21 22, 1:08 PM |
