Subject: Transit Maintenance - COMPLETE

Posted by: kyleisalive

Hello everyone--

You've no doubt taken trips on FunTrivia's Bus Ride. Some of you, perhaps, have taken more rides than others. It should come as no surprise that, over the years, some stops may have been a bit repetitive. With the Bus Ride running for (what) twelve years now(?), it just seems that some countries get more love than others for new trivia.

With this in mind, we're aiming to perform a bit of a refresh, in some cases closing down the old bus stops and installing new ones along the route. It's all the same countries, but it's time to make some long-needed transit maintenance happen, especially since we have so many new quiz types.

In this thread here, we have thirty different nations, the first set of countries that, based on our current infrastructure and surveying, need new quizzes. Working together, it's time to accomplish the challenge. A few requirements, however:

  • Variety is the spice of life! We're aiming to create a dynamic Bus Ride that takes a look at the many unique facets of the nations visited. This means that in addition to Geography quizzes, which are generally the go-to, there is a likelihood that new quizzes in the World category (eg. cultures) or the General category (eg. Mixed Countries) or similar will be a good fit. At least ten of the countries below must be in categories that aren't Geography.
  • Speaking on variety again, we have so many new quiz types that it doesn't make sense not to employ them. 5 quizzes submitted for this challenge must be Label Quizzes; 5 must be Order Quizzes; 5 must be Classification Quizzes.
  • As a reminder, the quizzes used on the Bus Ride must be country-specific. If the option is for the Czech Republic, then a quiz solely about Prague isn't necessarily going to make the grade.

Below are the thirty countries we're aiming to work at. Most of these haven't had replacement quizzes since the Bus Ride started. Selections are first-come-first-serve and you may claim additional countries when your previous ones have gone online.

    Countries:

    Botswana - Stephgm67

And yes, some of these could very much cross over with this challenge here.

If we can claim a country now, I'll gladly take Sweden.

Sorry for the double post, but I'd like to know if Hobbies (i.e. food and drink) would also be allowed as a non-Geo category.

No need to apologize for a double-post around here.

Looney_Tunes is the best resource for determining Bus Ride eligibility around here, and if you have an idea in mind then a quick chat might be able to get it into the shape it needs to work for the challenge. I doubt Hobbies is out of the realm of possibility.

Food and Drink has been used before - but some attempts haven't rated that well, because the average player isn't familiar with the cuisine. Remembering that the Bus Ride players need to get half right to count the stop as they work for the badge, you want to make sure that there are at least that many 'gimme' questions in the quiz.

Now that you mention it, I remember playing a food-based Bus Ride quiz a couple of months ago (now I don't remember the author). If I decided to go that route, I'd try to make the questions accessible to most players.

Anyway, there is already a Mixed Sweden quiz (which is likely to be one of those in the rotation for the Bus Ride), and I'd rather write in another category than Geography. There's always World with various possibilities (such as UNESCO sites). Would People or History also work?

LadyNym, People and History both definitely work - we have several of each bouncing around. Also animals - it would probably want to have lovely pictures, as is the case for the one of yours I just rotated in for the Philippines.

I have a good idea for a Japan quiz. It's going to be non-Geo and it's going to be non-MC... that's all I'm saying right now. :)

@LT: thank you for selecting my quiz for the Philippines! I'd rule out writing about Swedish fauna, as it's not that different from Finnish fauna - which was the subject of one of my quizzes, written some time during 2021. On the other hand, People or History would be excellent categories. There are only four quizzes about Swedish people, and none about the country's history.

And here it is: link https://www.funtrivia.com/trivia-quiz/History/Two-Thousand-Years-of-Sweden-407985.html. Let's keep fingers crossed! I hope people will give it a try even if they don't know anything about Sweden and its history. Judging by the average, it seems the questions I wrote are quite accessible.

Can we do Hobbies, i.e. food-related quizzes (Iranian cuisine etc.), or is that too niche?

Food related is definitely fine - there have been several examples on the tour. The focus is on exploring the country to find out things you didn't know. However, you need to make sure it isn't too difficult - tourists need to get half right to score the day, so find it frustrating if that doesn't happen, no matter how well written and informative it is. If I am debating between two quizzes, the one with an average score of at least 7 will be selected over one at 5-6.
