1. "Take Me Home, Country Roads"

John Denver, born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. in 1943, released this iconic song in April 1971. The song is one of the official anthems of the state of West Virginia and is included in the Library of Congress National Recording Registry. Denver was a resident of Colorado when he died in an aircraft crash in 1997, and all state flags were flown at half-mast in his honor.

3. Triple Crown 1977

Seattle Slew was the tenth thoroughbred horse to win the U.S. Triple Crown as a three-year-old, which includes the Kentucky Derby, Belmont Stakes, and the Preakness Stakes. Seattle Slew was the first horse to win the Triple Crown and also be undefeated in all previous races; the second horse to do that was a descendant of his, Justify, in 2018.

4. Stone Cold

Steve Austin, born Steven James Anderson in Austin, Texas, in 1964, made his professional wrestling debut in 1989 using the name Steve Austin. After using various monikers, including "The Ringmaster" and "Stunning Steve Austin", he adopted his most famous moniker, "Stone Cold", in 1996.

He officially changed his name to Steve Austin in 2007. The city of Austin is the capital of the state of Texas and is known as the "Live Music Capital of the World".
5. My Own Private Idaho

River Phoenix (1970-1993) was the oldest sibling in a family of performers, including sister Rain, brother Joaquin, and sisters Liberty and Summer. Phoenix described his parents as "hippieish", and they traveled across the country, one result being that Phoenix never attended school. Phoenix began filming TV commercials at the age of 10, was recognized for his performance in "Stand by Me" (1986) at the age of 16, and won awards for his performance in "My Own Private Idaho" (1991). "Idaho" also starred Keanu Reeves, and both actors played friends that were sex workers, chronicling their relationship, adventures, and misadventures over the years.

6. First Female U.S. Attorney General

Janet Reno served as U.S. Attorney General from 1993-2001, appointed by President Bill Clinton. She left office as the second-longest serving Attorney General to that time, surpassed by William Wirt who served in that post from 1817-1829. Reno was also the first women to serve as a State Attorney in Florida, serving in that role for Miami-Dade County from 1978-1993.

7. African American captain of a whaling ship

Michael Jackson was the 8th child in the Jackson family, debuting as lead singer for the group The Jackson Five when he was six years old. 9. Katniss Everdeen, fictional reality show winner

Jennifer Lawrence (born 1990) starred in four films of "The Hunger Games" series from 2012-2015. She was nominated for an Academy Award for her first feature film "Winter Bone" (2010), and won the Best Actress Oscar for "Silver Linings Play Book" (2012). Lawrence, Kansas, is home to the University of Kansas, and was a central location for the "Bleeding Kansas" period of 1854-1861 when the issue of slavery caused many bloody confrontations between groups on opposite sides of that issue.
10. "The Equalizer", "Man on Fire"

Denzel Washington was born in 1954 and uses his birth name as his stage name. He began acting in 1975 in college, and was still going strong fifty years later as a movie and stage actor. He starred in "The Equalizer" movies from 2014-2023, which were based on a 1980s television series. "The Equalizer" is a retired special operations soldier hoping for a quiet life, but who takes on dangerous adventures helping those in danger from criminals. Washington's 2004 "Man on Fire" is based on a 1980 novel and is a remake of a 1987 movie of the same name, telling the story of a jaded private bodyguard who sacrifices all to save a young client from kidnappers.
