"Arthur" Season 15 Trivia Quiz

"Arthur" celebrated its 15th anniversary in 2011-2012. If you were still watching, this quiz is for you. There are no questions about "Buster's Garden of Grief". That episode makes me very sad. There are also no questions about W.D.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In "Fifteen", who appears on a radio quiz show?

Answer: George

George appears on a radio show called "15 Minutes of Fame." He got on the show by filling out an application and then having his name picked out of a hat. It's a show where they ask trivia questions for money. George donates all of the money that he wins to the school. Mr. Haney gets the entire school in the auditorium to listen to the show.

Arthur accidentally leaves his Michelangelo report at home. Buster tells Arthur that he has time to run home, get it, and bring it to school. On the way home, Arthur runs into George, who asks him some questions to prepare him for the trivia quiz. Arthur tells George that he is in a hurry because he needs to get his Michelangelo report, so Arthur only asks George a few questions.

At the show, George is told that he is not allowed to hold Wally. The host holds Wally for the show. However, George can see Wally and that helps him with a few of the questions. For example, one of the questions is about what kind of wood that baseball bats are made of. George remembers when his father gave him Wally as a Christmas present and told him that Wally was made from an ash tree, like most baseball bats. Another question was about the tallest animal in the world and Wally is a wooden giraffe. That's how he correctly answered "Ash" and "Giraffe" to those questions. The final question is about Michelangelo's full name. George has a chance to phone a friend. He tells the host to call the school and ask for Arthur, knowing that Arthur did a report about Michelangelo. Arthur was late to school but he got there just in time to give George the correct answer. George won $500 for the school.

The episode is called "Fifteen" because it's the beginning of season 15. The number appears in a few different contexts throughout the episode. The radio show is called "15 Minutes of Fame". In the introduction, Buster tells Arthur that he only has 15 seconds to finish his introduction. Mr. Ratburn's class gets 15 points if everyone hands in their homework on time, which will lead to a reward of "No Homework Day". Pal and Kate are told that they have 15 minute to foil the "Red Claw" (which actually does not exist).

The scene where George gets Wally as a Christmas present is a plot hole. In "Arthur's Dummy Disaster", George said that he made Wally with some help from his dad. "The Silent Treatment" reveals that Wally was made from an oak tree, not an ash tree. Still, any episode that focuses on George and no one mistreats him is a good episode.
2. In "I Wanna Hold Your Hand", who holds his mother's hand?

Answer: Binky

Binky likes to hold his mother's hand, but he is afraid he will be bullied for it. When George sees Binky hold his mother's hand, Binky warns George not to tell anyone what he saw. This confuses George because he sees nothing wrong with it. When the tough customers see Binky terrorizing George, they want to find out what he is hiding. George does not tell them, so they try to spy on Binky. They do not learn much from spying on him.

One day, they see Binky holding his mother's hand and he sees that they see this. He tells the other tough customers that they can mock him all they want. They do not mock him because they see nothing wrong with a person holding his mother's hand. They mock him because they think that is a ridiculous thing to hide and Molly also holds her mother's hand. At the end of the episode, the Barnes family goes to the Golden Panda Chinese Restaurant.
3. At the beginning of "Whistling in the Wind", who can whistle?

Answer: Tommy Tibble

This episode focuses on the fact that Tommy Tibble can whistle and Timmy Tibble cannot. This makes Timmy mad because he thinks that he and Tommy are supposed to be the same in every way. Out of jealousy, Timmy attacks Tommy. In the fight, both twins have a tooth knocked loose. Now they both can whistle, but everybody hates it. Grandma Tibble loves how Tommy could whistle before his tooth got knocked loose, but she clearly does not enjoy the whistling of both twins after their teeth get knocked loose.

This is the first episode where we learn that Tommy is older than Timmy by two minutes. This fact is talked about in the season 18 episode "Two Minutes". I guess we are meant to assume that this episode takes place after "Two Minutes" despite airing well before it.
4. In "Cents-less", Mr. Ratburn assigns for the kids to not spend any money over the weekend and learn how to barter. This is hard for Muffy. How does she get what she wants from Brain?

Answer: She organizes his baseball cards

When Mr. Ratburn announces this assignment, Muffy laughs, thinking it is a joke. She is horrified to realize that Mr. Ratburn is serious. Her initial plan is to use a credit card, thinking that does not count as spending money. Francine tells her she cannot do that. Muffy comes up with other plans.

When Muffy sees a doll she wants in a store, Binky gets it first. He says he will trade it for a particular, extremely rare baseball card. Muffy asks Francine if she has that card. She says that Brain might have it. It turns out that he does, but she does not have anything that he wants so she cannot trade for it. When she talks to Mr. Ratburn and Buster about this, Mr. Ratburn suggests offering a service. Buster gives Muffy some old jokes that she can use. Brain does not like any of the jokes. However, Muffy notices that Brain has a hard time organizing his cards. She decides to help him with that. They end up being very neatly displayed on some shelves. Brain gives Muffy the baseball card in trade for that service, and she then trades it to Binky for the doll. The moral of the episode is that there are ways to get what you want without money, and if Muffy can do it, anyone can.
5. In "Buster the Lounge Lizard", Arthur theorizes that the teachers and principal play with the confiscated toys in the teacher's lounge. Is that theory correct?

Answer: Yes

Buster shows Arthur a toy buggy that he got. This buggy has a lot of gadgets and it gets set off pretty easily. Buster accidentally shoots the toy's grappling hook at Binky. Binky warns Buster that Mr. Ratburn might confiscate this toy like he confiscated Binky's bouncy ball. Buster says that he will not play with it in class and he will just keep it in his desk. When Buster tries to put it in his desk, he accidentally presses a button that makes it jump, float down on a parachute, and the grappling hook takes away Mr. Ratburn's belt and his pants fall down. Mr. Ratburn decides to confiscate the toy, but then it attaches itself to the ceiling, plays disco music, and puts a hole in the ceiling. Mr. Ratburn decides he does not want it in his classroom and he tells Buster to take it away, but warns him that if he plays with it in class again, it will be confiscated for the whole year.

Buster puts it in his locker, but when he says "Go," it goes into the teacher's lounge. Buster tells his friends about this at the Sugar Bowl. They have different theories about what the teachers do with the confiscated toys. Binky decides to help Buster break into the teacher's lounge. They agree to do it through the window and Binky hopes that Buster will also get his bouncy ball. Buster decides not to go through with it because the teacher's lounge is private. Mr. Ratburn sees them outside the window and he gives Buster his toy back. After the boys leave, Mr. Haney says that he is sad that he never got to play with it. Mr. Ratburn gets Binky's ball and he and Mr. Haney play with that.
6. In "To Eat or not to Eat", does Buster eat the candy bar?

Answer: No

Buster sees a commercial on TV about a candy bar, and he decides that he REALLY wants it. He gets his hands on one, but then he notices odd things about how other kids behave after they eat it. The kids have actually sparkles coming out of them for a while, then they feel terrible, then they need more candy bars for some more sparkles, then they feel even worse, and the cycle continues like that. Buster decides to do some detective work about it.

He starts by showing the bar to some experts and asking them about the ingredients. Ms. MacGrady has been a chef for her whole life and she does not recognize the ingredients. She tells Buster to be wary of ingredients that he is unfamiliar with and cannot pronounce. Brain says that the candy bar has chemicals and beetles. Brain does not recognize the main ingredient, but he explains to Buster that the order that the ingredients are listed in is the order of how much there is of each ingredient. Buster goes to the company's website to learn about the main ingredients, but when he clicks on the main one, it crashes. Buster's mother says that Buster does not want to eat it, but she can help him get all the facts.

Buster's mother gets Buster a tour of the company. There, he meets Supreme Dog, the head of the company. Supreme Dog admits that the candy bars are intentionally addictive. Buster's suspicions are confirmed. He gives the bar to Supreme Dog and tell him to eat it. Supreme Dog panics and refuses to eat his own product. Ms. Baxter publishes an article saying that the candy bar is a fraud. Supreme Dog is arrested and put behind bars and no one buys the candy bars anymore.
7. In "S.W.E.A.T.", who surprisingly has a panic attack right before the test?

Answer: Brain

Mr. Ratburn's class must take a standardized test and he spends a few weeks trying to prepare his kids for it. This test makes them nervous. Ms. MacGrady takes the kids outside during lunch and teaches them some meditation techniques. Brain just takes a nap and doesn't pay attention to her, thinking the class is unnecessary.

The morning of the test, Brain takes one more practice test. He thinks he aced it, but then he sees that he accidentally skipped a question. This causes him to panic, and this panic continues after class starts.

He even forgets his number two pencil. Sue Ellen lends him one of her pencils and Buster teaches Brain some of what Ms. MacGrady taught to the class. Brain feels better and then he is ready to take the test with everyone else.
8. In "Grandpa Dave's Memory Album", who becomes his new best friend?

Answer: Bubby

Grandpa Dave has Alzheimer's Disease and he has trouble remembering things. D.W. decides to make a photo album for him featuring pcitures of the family. Arthur initially opposes this idea but he eventually helps with it. Before he does that, he goes to the park to be alone. He sees Francine and Bubby there. Bubby notices that he is feeling down and she asks what is wrong. Arthur tells her about his grandfather. Bubby invites him over to the Frensky apartment to talk to him. She explains that people's bodies and brains change when they get old, but Grandpa Dave is still Grandpa Dave and he will always love his grandson. Arthur invites Francine and Bubby over to the Read place. Grandpa Dave still remembers how to make country stew and Bubby loves it. Bubby gives Francine some old photos of Elwood City for the photo album. Arthur, D.W., and Francine work on that together. They give the finished album to him and he loves it. Bubby tells him about the pictures and she tells him a lot about how Elwood City used to be (her memory is doing just fine). Grandpa Dave and Bubby become friends.

This is the last episode in which Grandpa Dave speaks (unless the show was rebooted some time after February of 2026 and he got a speaking role after that). It's also the last appearance of Bubby. Joan Rivers passed away two years after this episode first aired. Her character died with her.
9. In "Buster's Carpool Catastrophe", what kind of class do Arthur, Buster, and Muffy take?

Answer: Cooking

Arthur wants to learn how to make a fruit pastry for his father's birthday. Buster and Muffy want to learn how to make junk food, and the chef is angry when they tell him that. The Crosswire limo breaks down, so Muffy has to ride with Arthur and Buster in the backseat of Ms. Baxter's car. Ms. Baxter's car is not in good shape (the doors don't open or close easily and the air conditioning doesn't work), which angers Muffy, who is used to riding in a limo. Also, the kids spend the whole ride arguing.

One day, the exit is closed and Ms. Baxter tries to rely on a GPS to find a detour, and the GPS is defective. That day, they get to class late and they have to peel onions for an hour. They do not even enjoy the class much and Arthur fears he will not learn to make a fruit pastry in time for his father's birthday. On the last day of the class, Muffy brings her camera and Ms. Baxter brings some car games. The kids have fun. The car breaks down and they do not make it to class. They decide to skip class and drive around. Arthur buys a cake for his father from a farm stand.
10. In "Prunella the Packrat", who gets a book from Buster and then gives it to Prunella to help her with her problem?

Answer: Arthur

Arthur and Prunella work on a project together for the school's Earth Day fair. When she invites him over to her house to work on it, he discovers that her closet has a ton of stuff. It takes her hours to find the thing she was looking for and by the time she finds it, Arthur says that his family is expecting him home for dinner.

The next day, he goes to Buster's house to tell him about this. Buster gives him a book called "Neatnik Ned's Guide to Clearing Clutter" which he gives to Prunella. Upon the book's request, they make a pile of things to take to the recycling center. She goes there by herself, but the man at the recycling center tells her that she can take whatever she wants. She takes so much stuff there, she comes home with three times as many things as she gave away. Arthur becomes very concerned for her. She then decides to give away a lot of stuff at the fair on the condition that no one hold onto it for too long, and then she uses to rest of it to make a sculpture for Earth Day.
11. In "What's in a Name", we learn that whose real name is Shelley?

Answer: Binky

Mr. Ratburn awards a "Thinky Award" to the most improved student. During season 15, two students win it. In this episode, Mr. Ratburn says that it's the second one of these awards that he has handed out this year, even though this episode aired before "The Trouble With Trophies", the first time that the award was given (to George). This time, it goes to Binky. Binky tries to give a speech thanking everyone who helped him improve his grades, but Muffy talks on her cell phone during the whole speech. Mr. Ratburn confiscates Muffy's cell phone and gives her detention during recess for the whole week.

In detention, Mr. Haney asks her to give Mr. Ratburn to list of class names to make sure that they are all spelled correctly. She notices the name "Shelley Barnes." She does not see the name "Binky" on the sheet but she knows that his last name is Barnes, so she concludes that Binky's real name must be Shelley. After school, Muffy tells Binky that on the next school day, she is going to tell the whole class that his real name is Shelley. She shows him the class sheet as proof.

After Binky gets home, his mother tells him that his real name is indeed Shelley. He went by that name until he was two. He then loved his little pacifier so much that his parents started calling him "Binky" and they have been calling him that ever since (apparently, "Binky" is another word for "Pacifier"). Binky is not happy with the name. He e-mails Muffy asking her what she wants, and she replies "Revenge or a pony." This makes him sad.

Binky's mother brings him a photograph of his great-grandfather, Shelley Barnes, whom Binky is named after. She then proceeds to tell Shelley's story. Shelley worked for a circus. The circus wasn't very good or very popular and it made him depressed. One day, when he was nine, he lifted a giant rock. When other people saw how strong this nine-year-old boy was, he became the star of the show. He helped the circus make a lot of money. Upon his suggestion, they used the money to help the other members of the circus. The circus grew and became more popular. When he was an adult, he took over and became the owner of the circus. It then toured for many years. After hearing this story, Binky is proud of his real name.

On Monday, Binky is ready to continue his speech for the Thinky award. Muffy gets Mr. Ratburn's permission to introduce Binky. Muffy says that she feels bad about being on her cell phone and being rude to Binky and now she wants to introduce him. Surprisingly, she introduces him as "Binky." As he walks to the front of the class, she whispers to him that she never intended to tell anyone his real name. Binky then dedicates the award to his great-grandfather and the person he is named after, Shelley Barnes. His classmates are astonished, but he admits that his real name is Shelley. He tells the class to continue to call him Binky until he earns the right to be Shelley. He keeps the photo of his great-grandfather in his back pocket as a reminder.
12. In the introduction to "Muffy's Classy Classic Club", why does Bailey say that he enjoys being Muffy's butler?

Answer: It is never dull

Bailey does the introduction for this episode. He talks about what it's like to be Muffy's butler. He says that he enjoys it. Even though Muffy is very demanding and does not treat him very well, he says he enjoys it because it is never dull.

In the episode, Muffy starts a book club with Bailey, Francine, Arthur, and Brain. No one enjoys the books that she suggests except her. Everyone enjoys the book that Brain suggests except her. She ends up leaving the club and forming a new one with her father and Bailey. Neither of them like her book suggestions, so she decides to disband the club. She then reads part of the book that Francine suggests. The original club moves to Francine's apartment. Muffy goes there and decides to re-join the club as a regular member and not as president. She discusses the book with the rest of them and enjoys it as much as the rest of them, only she is the only one who hasn't finished it.
13. In "Through the Looking Glasses", Arthur loses his glasses. Who has them?

Answer: Mr. Toad

One day, Arthur wakes up and realizes that his glasses are missing. His family searches for them, but no one finds them. He then goes to an eye doctor who prescribes him some new glasses. D.W. and Kate don't like his new look, but everyone else does. Other kids start asking him for advice on things that they know more about than he does. Muffy shows him two dresses and asks him which one she should wear to the opera. Brain asks him for chess advice. George goes to him for therapy. Sue Ellen asks him to give her a drawing lesson. He helps them all by saying "I always say..." and then saying a well-known cliche such as "What's old is new" or "The best defense is a good offense." Buster does not like Arthur's new arrogant attitude.

On the second day that he wears them he daydreams about being a big shot and he is so focused on his daydream, he does not look where he is going. He trips over a tree root and his glasses fall in the road and get smashed by a car. He tapes them up, but people notice that his glasses are broken and they stop asking him for advice. Buster wears ski goggles so he can be a big shot. At first, Buster gets complimented by a lot of kids. However, he cannot see very well through them and he ends up bumping into a locker and breaking them. Arthur and Buster throw their broken eyewear in the trash can and decide never again to be arrogant just because they got new eyewear.

When they walk away, the audience sees Mr. Toad riding a dog. Mr. Toad is wearing Arthur's glasses. Only the audience sees this. None of the people in the "Arthur" universe see this. This can make an audience member wonder if Arthur will be without his signature glasses in later episodes. However, in later episodes, Arthur has his glasses back. It's never made clear how he got them back, or even if he did. It's worth noting that early in the episode, we see Pal stealing a sock. Previous episodes "The Great Sock Mystery" and "The Great Lint Rush" establish that dogs steal socks from their owners for the sock market. It is possible that Pal traded that sock (the one that he steals in this particular episode) to Mr. Toad for the glasses and then Pal returned them to Arthur. It is also possible that Arthur got a new pair of glasses that is identical to his old pair.
14. In "The Butler did... What?", why isn't Bailey home until the end of the episode?

Answer: He's on vacation

One day, Muffy wakes up and realizes that Bailey is not home. Neither she nor her father know where he is. Her friends suggest that he left because they had a one-way relationship. Bailey does so many things for Muffy and knows a lot about Muffy, but she does nothing for him and she never asked him a question about his life. She initially asks Buster to investigate. His theory is so ridiculous that she asks him to leave.

She then goes into his room and finds an old class photo of him and his classmates when he was in school. She notices that one of them is Mr. Ratburn. She brings the photo to school and shows it to Mr. Ratburn. Mr. Ratburn does not remember Bailey and it doesn't help that she can't tell him anything about him. Mr. Ratburn tells Muffy that Bailey must have loved music because that's a photo of the school band.

Muffy then goes to a music store and shows it to the owner. The owner tells her that Bailey bought a trumpet and might be planning to see Bill Abbey. Muffy remembers noticing that Bailey has a lot of Bill Abbey albums. Her father takes her to the place where the Bill Abbey concert is. They do not find Bailey.

Just when Muffy gets home feeling sad, she notices that Bailey is home. She gives him a big hug. Mr. Crosswire asks Bailey why he left. Bailey is astonished by the question and says that he was on vacation. Bailey tells Mr. Crosswire that he agreed to let Bailey got on vacation. Mr. Crosswire is embarrassed and says that he is so busy, he forgot. Muffy returns Bailey's photo to him and asks him some questions about his love of music. The episode ends with him playing the trumpet for her, although not very well.
15. In "The Trouble With Trophies", who wins the Thinky award?

Answer: George

Mr. Ratburn awards a "Thinky" award every year to the student that has improved the most during the year. In "The Trouble With Trophies," it goes to George. Mr. Ratburn actually gives two of these awards during season 15. Binky got the second. The confusing thing is that "What's in a Nam," aired before "The Trouble With Trophies", yet in "What's in a Name" Mr. Ratburn says he is awarding a second Thinky award and he tells George that he cannot win it again because he won the first one. This means that "The Trouble With Trophies" takes place before "What's in a Name" even though it aired after it.

At lunch, Muffy congratulates George but tells Fern that she should have won it because her appearance his improved. Fern is not pleased with Muffy's back-handed compliment and she says that she does not want a trophy. Muffy is astonished at the thought that someone could not want a trophy. She foolishly believes that Fern is sad that she never won a trophy and is just hiding it, so she asks George and Buster to help Fern get one. Their attempts to do this always end up in Binky getting the trophy. George and Buster turn against Muffy and decide to stop helping her. Muffy makes a trophy for "Meanest Friend Ever" and gives it to Fern. Fern has no idea why she got this trophy. She goes to Muffy's house and sees Muffy emptying her trophy room, thinking Fern was telling her that all the trophies she won were meaningless. Fern tells Muffy to keep her trophies because they mean something to her and that's all that matters. Fern also gives Muffy a copy of the book that she has been working on, which is dedicated to Muffy because Muffy's behavior in this episode actually inspired the story even if that wasn't Muffy's intention.
