Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:

The children met the Whiffle Bird almost as soon as they entered Whangdoodleland. Her feathers were a "brilliant rainbow of colors". When she was sitting still she was silky and smooth. When she flew, however, all those feathers blew in all directions and it was difficult to see her head, tail, or feet. She also smelled delightfully of orange blossoms.

High-Behind Splintercat came from Whangdoodleland to visit Lindy in her own bedroom one night. He looked like a cat but was as big as a cougar. He was silvery in color with large velvety ears and glowing eyes. His back legs were much higher than his front ones and he had a long tail. When he spoke, he almost purred, like when he asked to be "scrrrratched".

Gyascutus was a huge bird with a very large wingspan and a nasty attitude. The professor told the children that his wings measured fifteen feet, which is over four meters. He used his sharp beak and giant, pointed claws to try to stop the professor and children from reaching the Whangdoodle.

Sidewinders frightened little Lindy on the first day in Whangdoodleland. They were the Whangdoodle's personal guard and had a bad reputation. They looked like cannons but with long, "funnel-like noses" held in the air. They also had five legs in a circle on each side of their brown bodies. They made very scary noises!

Tree Squeaks were small reddish-orange creatures that looked like monkeys. They had wings and lived in a forest where they hung upside-down from their tails. An unusual feature about them is that they slept with their big eyes wide open so that the forest practically glowed at night. When awake, they got their name from their very loud squealing and squawking noises they made.

Gazooks were creatures in Whangdoodleland that looked just like little motorcycles. They were silver and black with flames painted on the side. However, the secret of these mean Gazooks was that if a person got on, that person could never get off. The Potter boys learned this lesson the hard way and had to trick the growling and snarling Gazooks into driving into a sticky gum pond.

Oinck was shaped exactly like a pear and was a light gray color. He had a small head with two big brown eyes (with very long eyelashes) and hair that stuck up like a paintbrush. He was often confused. The children learned later he was the head chef for the Whangdoodles and made delicious candy (called Wodge) and broccoli.

Swamp Gaboons were big, furry creatures that looked like apes. Their fur was thick and colored a very bright green. They were extremely energetic but also quite rude. They liked to jump up and down and scream mean things at people. The children had to learn from the professor that the best action was to ignore the hateful creatures because words could not physically harm them.

Jiffies were small creatures that looked like a type of penguin. They lived in the palace of the Whangdoodle and did almost all of the daily chores. They were always running around very quickly and seemed very busy. It was explained that it was "not in a Jiffy's nature to walk". So they got things done in half the time which left them more time to play.

Flutterbyes were small multi-colored winged creatures. Lindy thought they were beautiful and looked like jewels on a necklace. They liked to fly around the blue trees with light blue flowers. The children learned the Flutterbyes were swarming the ambrosia trees because of the delicious nectar the plants produced.

Kalidahs were mean predators from the book "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz".
The Cheshire Cat was an animal in the novel "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland".
Mr. Tumnus was a faun from the book "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe".
Oompa-Loompas were a race of people in the novel "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory".
Never Bird was a character in the book "Peter and Wendy" (also known as "Peter Pan").
