Answer: Beetroot

Beetroots are root vegetables and they grow underground. They are known as 'beets' in America. They can be pickled, roasted, boiled and add vibrant colour to a salad.
Borscht soup originated in Ukraine and is a deep red in colour. This soup is also eaten in other Eastern European countries.
2. Vegetable that makes you cry when you cut it

Answer: Onion

Onions are a vegetable grown globally and they are used for flavouring in many recipes. Onions contain a chemical called Propanethial S which makes the eyes water. It is said that if you freeze an onion for 15 to 20 minutes before dicing it, then it reduces the tearful effect.

Other methods that people have been known to use are wearing goggles or holding a spoon in their mouth, which didn't work for me, but some are lucky not to react at all!
3. The 'neep' in the Scottish dish 'neeps and tatties'

Swedes are also called turnips and they are a root vegetable, growing underground.
The Scottish dish 'neeps and tatties' is mashed swede and potato. It's usually served with haggis on Burns night, which is held annually on 25th January. Robert Burns is a famous Scottish poet.
