Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Major League baseball team Cleveland Indians, adopted the name 'Indians' in 1915, for which reason?

Answer: Named in honor of former player Luis Sockalexis

The new Cleveland franchise began with the new American League in 1901, along with many other new franchises. Cleveland did have a baseball franchise called the Spiders, which included Hall of Fame great Cy Young, and the first American Indian to ever play professional baseball.

This person was Chief Luis Francis Sockalexis. The Cleveland Spiders team folded up in the National League in 1899. The city began a new franchise in 1901 named the Blues. The Blues name changed to the Bronchos, then the Naps, then the Cleveland Indians in 1915.
2. Hans Lippershey was credited with building the first what?

Answer: Telescope

Lippershey was a 17th century maker of eyeglasses. One day he was checking for flaws in two lenses. He discovered that moving the lens close, then away, created a 'zoom affect'. He then mounted two lenses in a hollow tube, and the rest is history. He called his discovery, "kijkglas" (looking glass).
3. Who was originally cast as the Tin Man in the classic, "The Wizard of Oz", began filming the movie, but later quit?

Answer: Swashplate
