Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:

>> Battle of Bladensburg
was fought on August 24,1814 near Bladensburg, Maryland. British troops had landed in the Chesapeake Bay area to threaten Washington, D.C. An American force of some 7,000 men was outmaneuvered by a smaller British army, leaving the way open to the American capital.
>>Battle of Queenston Heights
took place on October 13, 1812, and was the first major battle of the war. American troops began crossing the Niagara River into Ontario from New York and were met by the British, commanded by General Isaac Brock. The Americans failed to get enough men across the river before British reinforcements arrived, and they were routed. General Brock, regarded as the best British commander in Canada, was killed in the battle.
>> Battle of Chippewa
fought on July 5, 1814, was the result of an American attempt to capture the city of Kingston. British troops, thinking that they were facing American militia instead of regulars, attacked the American lines and were repulsed.
The Battle of Ogdensburg, fought on February 22, 1813, was a small action in which British troops conducted a surprise attack across the frozen St. Lawrence river and seized the New York town of Ogdensburg, thus protecting British supply lines.
>> Battle of the Thames
was fought on October 5, 1813. The British forces and their Native American allies, retreating from Detroit after the British defeat at the Battle of Lake Erie, were caught by American troops along the Thames River in Ontario. The British were defeated, and the Shawnee chief Tecumseh was killed, ending his confederacy.
>> Battle of New Orleans
U.S. General Andrew Jackson's outnumbered army routed a British force under Sir Edward Pakenham on January 8, 1815. Pakenham was killed in the battle, which was fought after a peace treaty ending the war had been agreed to, but not yet ratified.
>>Battle of Lundy's Lane
one of the bloodiest battles of the war, was fought on July 25, 1814. After the Battle of Chippewa, American forces were too weak to take Fort George, so they fell back to resupply. A British force advanced to a road near the Niagara River called Lundy's Lane and attacked. After a confused and inconclusive battle, the Americans retreated back into New York.
>> Battle of Lake Erie
was a major naval engagement in the Western theater of the War of 1812. On September 10, 1813, an American squadron of nine ships defeated a British force of six vessels, giving the Americans control of Lake Erie and allowing them to re-take Detroit.
>>Battle of North Point
was fought on September 12, 1814. American militia engaged British troops advancing on Baltimore, Maryland. The militia held off the British long enough for the city to organize the defenses. The British commander, General Robert Ross, was killed at the battle.
>>Battle of Stoney Creek
was fought on June 6, 1813, near what is now Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. After the Americans had taken Fort George on May 27, their advance was slow, allowing the British to regroup. British forces under General John Vincent staged a night attack on the American forward positions, capturing two American generals and routing their forces. The Americans retreated to Fort George and eventually back to New York.

The incorrect answers are all battles of the American Revolutionary War.
