Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the 1942 Disney movie "Bambi," who was the doe Bambi gets "twitterpated" over?

Answer: Faline

In 1942, Disney released its fifth full-length animated feature film, "Bambi." The movie was based on the book "Bambi, a Life in the Woods" by Felix Salten (1923). Bambi is a white-tailed deer born in the spring. His friends are Thumper (a rabbit) and Flower (a skunk). They grow up together, and Bambi sadly loses his mother when Man hunts her. His father is the Great Prince of the Forest, and Bambi is a young prince who will one day succeed his father.

He meets Faline as a fawn, and they are also friends. When they all grow up, Flower meets a female skunk and gets "twitterpated" (romantically inclined). Thumper and Bambi vow they will never go crazy over a girl, but when Thumper meets a female rabbit, he also becomes "twitterpated". Bambi cannot believe his friends fall so easily for a female. Then an adult Faline appears, and of course Bambi too becomes twitterpated.
2. What is the name of Shrek's sidekick in the Shrek movies?

Answer: Donkey

"Shrek" came out in 2001 and starred Mike Myers as the voice of Shrek. Donkey (voiced by Eddie Murphy), a talking donkey, befriends Shrek after the ogre saves him from some soldiers. Shrek does not want to be Donkey's friend, but Donkey is stubborn and decides they will become friends. Of course, they eventually do, but even then, Shrek often finds Donkey irritating.
3. "Rock-A-Doodle" is a hybrid animated film (live action mixed with animation) that tells the story of Chanticleer, a rooster who becomes a singer and impersonator of whom?

Answer: Elvis

Glen Campbell voiced the singing rooster Chanticleer. Every day, Chanticleer wakes the sun up by singing, but then is tricked by the Grand Duke of Owls (voiced by Christopher Plummer) into believing that his song has no effect on the sun after all. Chanticleer leaves, and the sun fails to rise, plunging everything into darkness and rain. The Grand Duke and his workers plan to eat all the farm animals in the darkness. Chanticleer has become an Elvis impersonator, but needs to get back to the farm and save it before it's too late.

Phil Harris narrates the film in his last role before he died in 1995.
4. In the 2006 movie "Cars," what kind of car is Doc?

Answer: Hudson Hornet

"Cars" was a 2006 Pixar film about a race-car named Lightning McQueen (voiced by Owen Wilson), who is going to a race, when he gets stranded in a small town named Radiator Springs. He damaged the main road in the town, and has to do community service there. Doc Hudson, a 1951 Hudson Hornet who doesn't like race-cars, is also the town's judge.

He was a race-car in his younger days, until a crash ended his career. Paul Newman voiced Doc.
5. What is the name of the stegosaurus in the 1988 movie, "The Land Before Time"?

Answer: Spike

"The Land Before Time" tells the story of some young dinosaurs who form a friendship as they try to get back to The Great Valley. Frank Welker voiced Spike the stegosaurus. He was also the voice of Sharptooth, the T. rex, who was a danger to all the other dinosaurs.

This theatrical movie spun off many direct-to-video sequels and a short-lived TV series.

On a sad note, Judith Barsi, who voiced Ducky ("yep, yep, yep"), was murdered by her father four months before the film was released. She was barely ten years old.
6. In "An American Tail," the Mousekewitz family leaves which country to go to America where they believe that "there are no cats"?

Answer: Russia

Fievel Mousekewitz is a Russian mouse. He and his family migrate to the United States, where they believe "there are no cats in America, and the streets are paved with cheese." Fievel gets separated from his family and believes they all died. There is a beautiful moment in the show when Fievel (voiced by Phillip Glasser) and his sister, Tanya (singing voice by Betsy Cathcart), realize even though they are separated, they are "underneath the same bright star."
7. In the 1992 movie "Ferngully: The Last Rainforest," who voiced Batty Koda?

Answer: Robin Williams

"Ferngully: The Last Rainforest" takes place in an Australian rainforest. Hexxus (voiced by Tim Curry) represents pollution, and it is very much an environmental movie. Crysta (voiced by Samantha Mathis) is one of the fairies in the rainforest. She is learning magic, but having a hard time, and accidentally shrinks Zak (voiced by Jonathan Ward). She has to do two things now: unshrink him and convince him to stop cutting down all the trees and ruining the rainforest where the fairies like her all live.

Batty was used by humans for experiments. He is now a bit manic and does not trust humans at all. Batty is friends with Crysta. However, he needs to keep an eye on Zak for fear that he and the other humans will harm him again.
8. In "The Care Bears Movie" (1985), the Care Bears have the "Care Bears stare". What do the Care Bear Cousins use?

Answer: Call

"The Care Bear Movie" has a boy named Nicholas who is an apprentice to a magician. Nicholas believes no one cares about him, so when he finds a book that tells him he can get rid of all the caring in the world, he decides to do it.

The Care Bears need to stop him and help two orphaned siblings at the same time. Because they lost their parents, and no one will adopt them, they believe they do not need anyone and do not need to care about anyone else either.

With all this uncaring, the caring meter is dropping. The Care Bears call on the Cousins to help them get everyone to care again and save Earth and Care-A-Lot.
9. In the 1973 animated movie, "Charlotte's Web," what was the rat's name?

Answer: Templeton

Charlotte (Debbie Reynolds) is a spider who happens to have a friend, who is a pig named Wilbur (voiced by Henry Gibson). Wilbur has learned that a pig's time on a farm is short and that the only reason they feed him well is to fatten him up and kill him. He doesn't want to die, and Charlotte promises to save her friend's life.

She uses her web to do so, making words in it about Wilbur. Templeton (voiced by Paul Lynde) is not liked on the farm. However, Charlotte knows he can run errands for her to help Wilbur. Templeton agrees to do what Charlotte needs, and Wilbur lets Templeton feed from the trough first.
10. In the 1989 animated movie, "All Dogs Go to Heaven," who killed Charlie, causing him to go to Heaven at the beginning of the film?

Answer: Carface

Charlie Barkin and Carface Caruthers were once good friends and business partners. Carface doesn't want to share the profits, so he kills Charlie. Charlie gets into Heaven simply because "all dogs go to heaven." However, Charlie runs away from Heaven with a watch that represents his life. He goes back to earth and is told that he can not return to Heaven.

Back on Earth, he and Itchy learn that Carface has kidnapped a girl named Anne-Marie. Anne-Marie can talk to animals. Charlie saves her, but then uses her to make money at the racetrack. She is upset that she was used, and wants to leave Charlie, who she thought was her friend. They make up. Then she learns that he stole a wallet, and she is upset again. They go to return it, and the couple wants to adopt her. However, Charlie gets her to leave. Charlie eventually confesses to Itchy that he is using Anna-Marie. She overhears and runs away again.

Carface is trying to get Anne-Marie back, but Charlie goes after her. Carface and Charlie fight. During the fight, Anne-Marie and Charlie's watch both fall into the water. Charlie can only save one; he chooses to save the girl. Unfortunately, she gets pneumonia and almost dies. Charlie sacrifices himself so she can live. He returns to Heaven because of his sacrifice, but is allowed as a ghost to go back to Anne-Marie.

In retrospect, the scene between Anne-Marie and Charlie is one of the saddest and hardest to watch. Judith Barsi, who was the little girl murdered by her father, was the voice of Anne-Marie. This was the last film she made before she died. Burt Reynolds, who was the voice of Charlie, redid his final lines while looking at Barsi's picture. When Charlie's voice cracks and he is upset, it is really Burt Reynolds struggling to say goodbye to a little girl who died way too young.
