Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This 1991 conspiratorial drama directed by Oliver Stone looks into the only prosecution ever associated with the assassination of John F. Kennedy and stars Kevin Costner as New Orleans District Attorney Jim Garrison. What is it?

Answer: JFK

Have you ever wondered what would happen if you turned Oliver Stone up to 11? Well, here ya go!

'JFK' stars Kevin Costner as New Orleans District Attorney Jim Garrison who discovers that every human being alive in 1963 not named Jim Garrison was somehow involved in a vast conspiracy to assassinate President John F. Kennedy. You know who you are.

Never let the truth get in the way of a good story.

The story focuses on Garrison's investigation into the assassination and the trial of Clay Shaw for conspiracy to assassinate the president. Yes, that really happened.

The movie has a packed supporting cast: Gary Oldman, Tommy Lee Jones, Jack Lemmon, Sissy Spacek, Donald Sutherland, Joe Pesci, Kevin Bacon, Laurie Metcalf, Walter Matthau, Ed Asner, and even John Candy. It won a couple of Oscars, a couple of BAFTAs, and a Golden Globe.
2. Which 1990 comedy features a young boy named Kevin McCallister who is accidentally left behind while his family goes on vacation for Christmas?

Answer: Home Alone

In this slapstick comedy where cartoon physics rule, Kevin McCallister, played by Macaulay Culkin, wakes up to find his entire family has flown to Paris without him. So he does what any self-respecting 8-year-old would do. He eats junk food, jumps on the bed, and fights off two very determined home burglars by engineering elaborate traps that would make Wile E. Coyote proud.
3. If you want to see Tom Cruise ride a horse - and who doesn't? - you could do worse than this romantic adventure film, also starring Nicole Kidman. Which 1992 features the couple as Irish immigrants in search of land in America?

Answer: Far and Away

'Far and Away' is everything you want in an epic romance: sweeping landscapes, dramatic accents, and Tom Cruise charging across open land like he's trying to conquer the world... or at least Oklahoma.

He plays Joseph Donnelly, an Irish tenant farmer who teams up with Nicole Kidman's Shannon to escape their circumstances and chase the American dream. That dream, by the way, involves the Oklahoma Land Run of 1893.

The film was directed by Ron Howard, who decided love stories needed more boxing matches, burning houses, chicken factories, and gunshots. C'est l'amour.
4. What 1994 action thriller stars Keanu Reeves as a cop trying to stop a bomb from exploding on a bus?

Answer: Speed

Have you ever ridden on a bus and wondered if it could fly? The writers of 'Speed' did! And the answer is a resounding yes! Here, Keanu Reeves plays LAPD officer Jack Traven, who finds himself stuck in a rolling death-coach with a bomb. If the bus drops below 50 mph, things go boom.

Everybody's commute gets a whole lot more complicated, and Sandra Bullock dutifully steps in as Jack's love interest and the unexpected hero driving the bus. Meanwhile, Dennis Hopper plays the villainous bomber to perfection.
5. Which 1993 comedy features Robin Williams as a divorced father who disguises himself as a British nanny so he can spend time with his children?

Answer: Mrs. Doubtfire

What a great plan! Robin Williams performs some serious comedic gymnastics in 'Mrs. Doubtfire' as a doting father looking to spend more time with his kids. After Sally Field divorces him for a birthday-party mobile petting-zoo malfunction (we've all been there), Robin Williams turns his frown upside-down by doing what any red-blooded American father would do: donning a wig, stretching some latex over his face, and impersonating an elderly British woman named Euphegenia Doubtfire. What could go wrong?
6. In 1998, Guy Ritchie directed his first full-length feature film. Which British crime film surrounds a group of small-time criminals who go deep into debt with the wrong man after a high-stakes card game?

Answer: Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels

In 1998 Guy Ritchie announced to the world that crime movies can be chaotic, bloody, funny, and stylish all at once... cheerfully following in the footsteps of Quentin Tarantino who'd made a similar announcement across the pond some years prior.

The story follows four friends who think they've got a fool-proof plan to win big in a card game, only to end up owing a very dangerous man a very large sum of money.

From there, the plot bounces from various gangs, associations, and bystanders all somehow brought together in one explosive scene. And Sting plays the bar owner, so what's not to like?
7. Which 1994 science fiction film starring Kurt Russell and James Spader involves an ancient device that allows travel to another planet ruled by Jaye Davidson, a being posing as an Egyptian god?

Answer: Stargate

You know the story. Ancient history is cool. But ancient history with aliens? Perfection.

The film centers on a mysterious ring-shaped device that opens a wormhole to another planet, where a powerful being named Ra has been pretending to be an Egyptian god. It made a lot of sense in the '90s. Trust me.

Kurt Russell is the no-nonsense military guy, and James Spader is the brainy linguist who cracks the code. And if you think we're missing an archetype or two, don't worry, we've got the villain and the love interest covered as well. The movie mixes sci-fi with ancient mythology in a way that shouldn't quite work, but somehow kinda does. Or at least did in the 1990s.

It ended up launching a whole franchise of TV shows, because once you open a portal to another planet, it's really very hard to stop.
8. What 1995 crime thriller directed by David Fincher follows two detectives tracking a serial killer who is motivated by the weaknesses he sees in others?

Answer: Se7en

'Se7en' is dark, gritty, bleak, and leaves us with one of the greatest movie moments of the decade. Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman play two detectives chasing a serial killer who designs his murders around the seven deadly sins. It's in the name, see? The killer is not subtle at all, but he's very effective.

David Fincher directs a storm cloud building and building until it finally breaks in the final moments of the film. And when it does break... well, Christmas has never been the same in my family. 'Come on, what's in the BOX?'
9. Mike Myers and Dana Carvey are two rock fans hosting a public-access TV show in which 1992 comedy film is based on a Saturday Night Live sketch?

Answer: Wayne's World

It is party time, folks.

It is excellent.

Woo. Woo. Woo.

Mike Myers and Dana Carvey are Wayne and Garth, two rock-obsessed dorks who host a public-access show from Wayne's parents' house, where the budget is low, but the vibes are most assuredly excellent. The movie is a spin-off from the 'Saturday Night Live' sketches and somehow works much better than most movies described with those words.

It's also responsible for permanently attaching 'Bohemian Rhapsody' to a car full of dudes singing at maximum volume.
10. Which 1999 David Fincher film starring Edward Norton, Brad Pitt, and Helena Bonham Carter - I'm sorry. I've just been handed a sternly worded note. Apparently the first rule of something called Project Mayhem is that I can't... er, ask questions. So... um, please see the choices below. (I am Jack's cold sweat)

Answer: Fight Club

Edward Norton, a depressed insomniac, is in a rut and tired of his Starbucks-and-Ikea lifestyle. To find peace, he begins spending his nights surrounded by dying people in 12-step support groups, despite the fact that he shares none of the ailments of those around him. Then during a business trip, he meets Tyler Durden, a soap salesman, and his life is changed for-

The first rule of the movie "Fight Club" is you do not talk about the movie "Fight Club".
