Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Danielle knocks the prince off his horse with an apple

In an effort to flee his obligation to wed a Spanish princess, Prince Henry climbs out his tower and runs away from his castle. As luck would have it, his horse slips a shoe, and he takes a horse from a nearby stable... which happens to be on Danielle's (or rather, her step-mother's) property. Seeing her father's horse being taken by a thief, Danielle throws one of the apples she had been collecting at the rider, hitting him square in the face and knocking him from the saddle.

Moments later, she sees that the thief is actually Prince Henry, and she abases herself, expecting a punishment. However, given Henry's own circumstance, he is quick to dismiss such a possibility.
2. The prince spills a bag of 20 gold francs out for Danielle

Having been caught 'borrowing' Danielle's father's horse, Prince Henry, who just wants to be on the way to getting away from his responsibilities, empties a bag of gold francs on the ground in front of Danielle, for her silence about the whole matter. The actual number of coins is mentioned in the next scene when Danielle speaks to the other household servants.
3. Danielle convinces Prince Henry to release Maurice from slavery

Danielle dresses in her mother's fine gown and, using the money received from the prince, goes to the palace courtyard to attempt to free Maurice, the elderly household servant that her stepmother had sold into slavery in an effort to pay her rising debts, but is unable to convince the cargomaster to do so.

Upon seeing the interaction, Prince Henry intervenes, berating the cargomaster for how he had been speaking to a courtier. Danielle argues her case directly with the prince, quoting "Utopia" in the process, and convinces him to grant Maurice's freedom.
4. Danielle tells the prince that her name is Comtesse Nicole de Lancret

Following the interaction with the cargomaster and the freeing of Maurice, Prince Henry follows Danielle as she attempts to leave. She puts off his inquires as to her identity as long as she can, but finally relents, providing the name of her mother Nicole de Lancret, and adding the rank of Comtesse to maintain the pretense of being nobility.

Without giving specifics, Danielle says that she is visiting from elsewhere and staying locally with a cousin.
5. With Leonardo da Vinci, Prince Henry encounters Danielle swimming

Outdoors by a lake, Leonardo da Vinci is showing Prince Henry some of his inventions, including two boat-shaped boots that he dons and walks out into the water. Unbeknownst to the two of them, Danielle has taken a break from her truffle-hunting to take a refreshing swim.

Da Vinci almost 'walks' right atop Danielle, frightening both of them and causing the polymath to fall into the lake, too. Meeting them on shore, the prince is surprised to see Danielle (or Nicole, as she knows her) in such a state, but still has the presence of mind to request another meeting with her under better circumstances.
6. Danielle and Prince Henry visit the Franciscan monastery's library

After the swimming episode, Prince Henry collects Danielle (still thinking of her as Nicole) and they visit the local Franciscan monastery to see their library. Considering that one of their earliest encounters involved a reference to "Utopia" (with Danielle noting how a love of books and reading was such a strong connection with her father before he died), it was a strong bonding experience for the two.
7. Danielle saves Prince Henry from a band of gypsies

On the way back from the monastery, their carriage suffers a breakdown, and Danielle convinces the prince to continue walking while his retainers seek assistance. This leads to an unfortunate confrontation with a group of gypsies who find them on the road, unprotected.

Danielle's feistiness and forceful personality with the gypsy leader earns a promise from him to release her with whatever she can carry. She ends up picking up the prince and walking away with him, to the great amusement of all the watching gypsies. They end up foregoing their kidnapping plans, and invite them both to join their evening meal and celebration.
8. Prince Henry and Danielle share their first kiss

During the evening celebration with the gypsies, Danielle and Prince Henry both enjoy themselves immensely, and spend the time getting to know each other better, to the point that they lean in for their first kiss together in their burgeoning relationship.

Hilariously, the prince is next seen waking up his parents (the king and queen) in an exuberant mood, demanding the establishment of a library open to all, and a demand to invite the gypsies to the upcoming masque (dance).
9. Danielle and the prince meet in the Ruins of Amboise

At the end of their evening with the gypsies, Prince Henry ensures he does not leave Danielle without making another plan to meet. After a parting kiss, he tells Danielle of the Ruins of Amboise, where he often went to spend time alone as he was growing up.

While at the ruins, Danielle tries to find a way to tell Henry the truth about her situation, but the prince is too busy (telling her of his plans to build a library and to follow her philosophical lead on different ways to make life better for the common folk) to hear what she has to say. She ends up departing, almost in tears, with her words unspoken.
10. Danielle appears at the Masque and her true status is revealed to the prince

The baroness (Danielle's stepmother), while meeting with the queen, figures out that Danielle is the mysterious Nicole that the prince has been seeing. She proceeds to sabotage the relationship by stating that 'Nicole' had departed for Belgium for a supposed betrothal.

The prince, hearing of the supposed betrothal, thinks that this was what 'Nicole' had been unable to say at the Ruins. Distraught, the prince gives up on her, and resolves to go ahead with the planned engagement with the Spanish princess (the responsibility he had been fleeing at the beginning of the film).

Returning home, the baroness locks Danielle in the cellar while she and her two daughters go to the masque.

Danielle's childhood friend (and fellow servant) Auguste goes to the palace and is able to find Leonardo da Vinci to come and help. Da Vinci is able to free Danielle (by taking the door off its hinges), and then helps her get ready to crash the festivities with a beautiful set of gossamer wings to accompany her mother's gown (and gem-encrusted glass-heeled shoes).

Unfortunately, before she can tell Henry the truth, Danielle's stepmother exposes her cruelly, and the prince feels betrayed at the deception, casting her off.
11. The prince 'rescues' Danielle from the slaver Pierre Le Pieu

With her public disgrace, Danielle returns to her 'normal' life at home, and then something strange happens. She sees all of the items that her stepmother had sold (to pay debts) being returned, and when she asks the baroness about how this could happen, she suddenly finds herself sold to the slavery Pierre Le Pieu (in exchange for all the valuables back).

Prince Henry, in the meantime, is confronted by Leonardo da Vinci about his poor response to the revelation about Danielle. In spite of this, stubbornly, Henry decides to go ahead with the marriage to the Spanish princess.

At the altar, the princess is weeping uncontrollably about being forced into this Union, and Henry finally sees the light. He releases the princess from her obligation (she runs to the arms of the man she loves), and proceeds to seek out Danielle. Which is when he learns of her enslavement

Rushing to the castle of Pierre Le Pieu, he arrives just in time to see that she has managed to free herself.
12. Prince Henry proposes to Danielle

Finding Danielle free of the clutches of the slaver, Prince Henry is quick to apologize for his earlier reaction, and asks for her forgiveness. With his declaration of love, he lowers himself to a knee and proposes on the spot.

The next time we see them together on screen, they have already wed, and Princess Danielle dispenses justice on her stepmother (and the one mean stepsister) by decreeing that they be treated in the same manner that they had treated her (stripping them of their noble rank and reducing them to servanthood).
