Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:

The TriWizard Tournament was a huge deal for the students of Hogwarts, Beauxbatons, and Durmstrang for hundreds of years. It was held every five years; the Goblet of Fire would choose a champion from each school who would then compete in three tasks for the prestigious TriWizard Cup. By 1792, however, the contest was discontinued due to the danger and possible death faced by the champions.

During Harry's fourth year, the tournament was revived with a twist. A fourth name - Harry Potter - came out of the Goblet of Fire after the three champions, Fleur, Viktor, and Cedric, were chosen, so there were four champions seeking the prize. The first event in the tournament resulted in a tie between Cedric and Harry. It was time to enjoy some time off and look forward to the traditional Yule Ball that was held during the tournament. The four champions were expected to attend with dates for the dance, and all the students who were fourth year and above could also attend.

While the idea about having a party seemed exciting, it also put some pressure on all of the students at Hogwarts that year. The guys had to work up courage to ask for a date, and the girls had to hope that the fellow they wanted to ask them would do so. Harry commented that he would rather fight another dragon.

Professor McGonagall appeared to be the one who was in charge of teaching the Hogwarts students how to waltz, however, she forgot to tell Harry that as a champion he would be expected to lead the first dance. For his part, Harry wasn't all that thrilled about going to the Yule Ball, because Cho, his current crush, turned him down after he finally found the courage to ask her. Waiting to almost the last minute, he finally snagged dates with the Patil twins - Parvati for him and Padma for Ron - but that failed to bring happiness to any of them. Harry was too busy looking at Cho the entire evening, and didn't appear to dance with Parvati after the opening dance; she finally left him in disgust. Ron never attempted to dance with his partner, as he was too put out about the old dress robes his mother sent for him to wear and too jealous of Hermione's date.

Hermione looked beautiful, and seemed to enjoy the evening with her date, Viktor Krum, the TriWizard champion from the visiting Durmstrang school. Viktor, already a Quidditch star, was constantly hounded by girls who hoped to attract his attention and snag his invitation to the Yule Ball. Apparently, he preferred the more studious type, and asked Hermione to be his date. She accepted, but kept it a secret until her grand entrance at the Yule Ball.

According to the book, the Beauxbatons champion, Fleur, originally hoped to go to the ball with Cedric and attempted to coax him by utilizing her infamous part-Veela charm that supposedly could be used to make any man to do her bidding. It didn't work, however, as Cedric was already committed to attend with Cho; it is theorized that since he was in love with Cho that made Fleur's charm less potent. It was potent enough to entice an invitation from poor Ron, though. Somehow he was caught in the crossfire and impulsively asked Fleur for the date. Then, realizing what he had done, he ran away, as seen in the movie. Fleur ended up dancing the "Potter Waltz" with her date, Roger Davies, the captain of the Ravenclaw Quidditch team, who was perhaps the next recipient of her charm. The book described him as being completely enthralled with her.

As the four champions danced around the floor, they were joined by Professors McGonagall and Dumbledore, who both seemed delighted to be there. According to the book, Professor Dumbledore not only danced with McGonagall, but also Madame Maxime and Professor Sprout. Following the Hogwarts professors was Igor Karkaroff, the Headmaster of Durmstrang. His dance partner was an unidentified Hogwarts professor. It is a bit curious that she remained unnamed, considering that the same woman was seen in some of the other Harry Potter movies in presumably the same role.

Of course, Fred was the coolest guy when he showed Harry and Ron how to get a date. He just threw a wad of paper toward Angelina Johnson and asked. She didn't have to think twice about saying yes. They were easy to spot, albeit just for a moment, during the "Potter Waltz", because Fred's height and red hair made them stand out.

Another student whose hair made him stand out was Draco Malfoy. He was dancing in the movie with an unnamed Beauxbatons girl, however, in the book his date was fellow Slytherin Pansy Parkinson.

Argus Filch appeared to have loved the waltz music. Not only did he assist Professor McGonagall with the music in class, he was also swaying to the "Potter Waltz" with his cat, Mrs. Norris. Yes, Mrs. Norris was just a cat, but it has been theorized that the close bond that she shares with Filch is what makes her seem magical.

Last, but certainly not least, are Ginny and Neville, who went to the Yule Ball as friends. Ginny was too young to attend, unless she was asked to be someone's date. She was probably hoping that Harry would ask her. It was great to finally see Neville happy and confident; in fact, the waltz that was played when the students were practicing is called "Neville's Waltz". Also composed by Patrick Doyle, it continued to play as Neville continued to rehearse the dance moves in his room.

As far as the incorrect choices, Luna could not attend the Yule Ball as she was too young unless someone older asked her; Seamus attended with an unknown Beauxbatons student in the movie. Professor Flitwick was way too busy conducting the orchestra to actually dance the "Potter Waltz", and Professor Sprout was not featured in any of the movie ballroom scenes. Neither Pansy nor Dean were featured in any of the movie scenes, and the situation with the last two couples, Cho and Harry and Hermione and Ron, has already been discussed.
