Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:
The death of Severus Snape revealed a story twist that was somewhat hard to believe, as he had done such a good job of showing his hate and loathing of Harry Potter throughout the entire movie franchise. After being fatally wounded by Nagini, as ordered by Voldemort so that he could become the owner of the Elder Wand, Snape asked Harry to collect his tears so that he could see the true story. The story revealed Snape's love for Harry's mother, and the deal he had made with Dumbledore at the end of the First Wizarding War in order to protect Lily's son. It also showed why Snape had seemingly murdered Dumbledore in "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" (2009).
Lavender Brown, the Hogwarts student who thought she loved Ron in "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince", was killed during the Battle of Hogwarts. She had been fighting as a member of Dumbledore's Army, and was attacked by the werewolf Death Eater Fenrir Greyback. Although Hermione apparently saved Lavender from being mauled to death, she died from her wounds. The movie leaves viewers hanging as to exactly what happened, but according to the story in the book, after Lavender had fallen from a tall balcony she was attacked by Fenrir.
Other casualties that were revealed in the movie included Remus Lupin, Nymphadora Tonks, and Fred Weasley. Their deaths were not shown, but seeing all the victims of the battle, especially the bodies of some of his closest friends, gave Harry the resolve he needed to face his destiny.
Remus Lupin was not only Harry's professor during one year at Hogwarts ("Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" - 2004), he was also the only remaining living friend of Harry's father's group, the Marauders. After his werewolf affliction was uncovered at the school, Lupin left his job, but continued to keep in contact with Harry and remain active in the second Order of the Phoenix.
In spite of Lupin's determination to not fall in love and marry Nymphadora Tonks, love won out. In the "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" (2007), both Lupin and Tonks served as part of the Advance Guard which was to protect Harry. They appeared at the beginning of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1" (2010), and told Harry they had married before what was known as the Battle of the Seven Potters. Although the movie didn't say much about his birth, Lupin and Tonks had a son about a month before the Battle of Hogwarts. Teddy Lupin was mentioned during the conversation Harry had with his loved ones after using the Resurrection Stone before his confrontation in the forest with Voldemort in the final movie.
It was extremely difficult for the Weasley Family to lose a member at the Battle of Hogwarts. Fred was depicted as a fun-loving, mischievous student at Hogwarts who hung out mostly with his twin brother, George. They operated a small joke business in "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" (2005) while still at Hogwarts, and together they opened Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes after leaving the school ("Harry Potter and Half-Blood Prince").
Gregory Goyle, one of Draco Malfoy's minions, died after casting a spell in the Room of Requirement. Harry, Ron, and Hermione had gone there to retrieve the Ravenclaw Diadem, which they had determined was one of Voldemort's horcruxes. Draco and his buddies had spotted them in the hallway and followed them into the room. In the ensuing fight that took place there, Goyle cast the dark magic Fiendfyre spell, which he could not control. He was killed in the fire that was created by his own spell, while the others escaped the room. (In the book it was Vincent Crabbe who died in this manner.)
Was anyone else happy to see Molly Weasley kill Bellatrix Lestrange, the person who had been responsible for the death of her own cousin, Sirius Black ("Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix")? What was so great about it was that Molly was always shown as a doting mother to all, cooking meals and knitting sweaters. Her magic power had been limited to a lesson to Harry about how to use Floo power in "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" (2002). But when Bellatrix threatened Molly's daughter, Ginny, Molly showed that she was a first class wizard by using a curse to the heart - not Avada Kedavra - that immobilized Bellatrix and then another curse that caused her to explode. Way to go, Molly!
Nagini was shown in many of the movies, however, it never was explained how she became one of Lord Voldemort's horcruxes; she was the last to survive. Although Ron tried to kill her with Avada Kedavra, as a horcrux she could not be killed in that way. She could be killed, however, with the Gryffindor Sword, and was dismembered by Neville Longbottom. Nagini's death made Neville quite a hero, and also made Lord Voldemort human again.
Before that, Neville was also responsible for the death of Scabior, who was a Snatcher, a person who served as a bounty hunter to round up people after Voldemort took over the Ministry of Magic. He was seen in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part I", tracking Harry, Ron, and Hermione to a diner, and later to the Forest of Dean where they were hiding. In "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part II" (2011), he finally captured them and took them to Malfoy Manor, which happened before the Battle of Hogwarts. He died during the battle while leading a group of Snatchers across the Wooden Bridge while dueling with Neville, who cast a spell that caused the bridge to collapse.
With all of the horcruxes destroyed, Lord Voldemort was human again. Thinking he was the master of the Elder Wand, he cast Avada Kedavra as he fought with Harry in the war's final duel. Harry, however, was the true master of the Elder Wand, and it refused to kill him; the Killing Curse backfired, and along with the Expelliarmus spell that was used by Harry, Voldemort disintegrated into ashes.
Although none of this was shown in the movie, Potter lore does tell about the fates of some who did not die at the Battle of Hogwarts. Neville Longbottom is a Herbology professor at Hogwarts, and Hagrid is still there living in his hut as well. Minerva McGonagall, who served some time as Headmistress of Hogwarts, passed away sometime in the 2020s. The villainous Lucius Malfoy had a noticeable change of heart during the Battle of Hogwarts, received a pardon, and still lives at Malfoy Manor with his family, and a grandson, Draco's son named Scorpius. Sadly, Hedwig was killed in the Battle of the Seven Potters ("Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1") when she flew at a Death Eater in order to protect Harry.
