1. Van Halen

Van Halen's hit single "Jump" was the sixth biggest hit of 1984 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song was featured on their "1984" album and featured a synthesizer solo by guitarist Eddie Van Halen. Fans were split on the new style but it became their biggest pop hit.
2. Prince

"When Doves Cry" was released on Prince's soundtrack to "Purple Rain". Prince had the song released without a bass track and the unique sound grabbed listeners attention. It was the overall number one song of 1984 on the Billboard Hot 100.
3. Culture Club

Culture Club was led by the iconic lead singer, Boy George. They added a little reggae vibe to their hit single "Karma Chameleon". The track landed at number ten on the year-end 1984 countdown. "Karma Chameleon" was released on their "Colour By Numbers" album in 1983.
4. Corey Hart

"Sunglasses At Night" was the biggest American hit for Canadian singer, Corey Hart. Reaching number 36 on the year-end countdown, "Sunglasses At Night", set a fashion trend in the 1980s. The song was actually written in response to studio members wearing sunglasses inside because of drafts from the air conditioner.
5. Scandal

Patty Smyth was the lead singer of Scandal. The band's first Billboard Hot 100 top ten song was "Warrior" which hit number seven on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The inspirational hook was "shooting at the walls of heartache, I am the warrior!". Scandal broke up after releasing the "Warrior" album.
6. Pat Benatar

Pat Benatar is known for a powerful voice reaching multiple octaves but she changed her image with the release of "Love Is A Battlefield". The rocker was seen dancing with choreography in the popular MTV video. On the year-end countdown, "Love Is A Battlefield" was the 57th biggest hit of 1984.
7. Billy Ocean

Billy Ocean's "Caribbean Queen" got everyone to the dance floor in 1984. The official title was "Caribbean Queen (No More Love On The Run)". To maximize radio airplay and build a worldwide audience, Billy had the hit song recorded in three different remixes, "European Queen", "Caribbean Queen", and "African Queen".
8. ZZ Top

"She's got legs and knows how to use them". With that hookline, ZZ Top, the Texas bluesy rockers with long beards, got themselves onto pop radio with "Legs". The music video had a shy female shoe clerk get a sexy makeover and obviously showcased her legs in the MTV favorite.
9. Madonna

Madonna placed "Borderline", "Lucky Star", and "Holiday" onto the list of the top ten Billboard Hot 100 hits of 1984. This picture is referencing "Lucky Star". All three tracks came from Madonna's self-titled debut album. The music video for "Lucky Star" introduced her iconic look with a mesh crop top, lace gloves, and crucifixes.
10. Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton

Two of the biggest country music superstars of the 1980s teamed up for "Islands In The Stream". Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton's song was number 55 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles of 1984. The song was written by Barry Gibb of The Bee Gees.
