Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "The heart is a bloom..."

Answer: Beautiful Day

The first song from U2's 2000 album "All That You Can't Leave Behind", "Beautiful Day" became a multi-platinum hit for the Irish band and one of their most lasting pop-rock tracks. Winning three Grammy Awards, "Beautiful Day" would catapult the band to the top of the international charts in a way that hadn't been seen in a decade, since "Achtung Baby". Though their other '90s discs were popular, none sold quite as many.

The "All That You Can't Leave Behind" album was considered a major return to form for U2 with this song leading the charge in reestablishing their arena-filling sound.
2. "Nobody likes being played."

Answer: Beautiful Liar

A collaboration between Beyonce and Shakira released as a single in early 2007, "Beautiful Liar" hit the pop radios as a crossover success with the Latin and Dance subgenres. The first track on Beyonce's "B'Day" release, it was the fourth single from her sophomore album after "Déjà Vu", "Ring the Alarm", and the downtempo ballad "Irreplaceable". Though failing to win the Grammy it was nominated for, the song hit number three on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the U.S. and topped the UK Singles Chart.

It also managed to hit number one on the Dance Club Songs chart in the U.S.
3. "You're way too beautiful, girl..."

Answer: Beautiful Girls

With the classic Ben E. King song "Stand By Me" as a sample, Sean Kingston's "Beautiful Girls" was an introduction to the artist who brought reggae-inspired tracks to mainstream pop in the mid-2000s. The track was massively popular, hitting number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in the U.S., the UK Singles Chart, the Canadian Hot 100, and the ARIA Chart in Australia. Though not a one-hit wonder, the song would become his obvious signature release.
4. "Haven't we met?"

Answer: Beautiful Stranger

Released as part of the official soundtrack for the 1999 film "Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me", "Beautiful Stranger" was written and performed by Madonna. Inspired by the 1960s aesthetic of the film (as Powers went back in time), the song ended up being a solid hit despite being buried in an OST.

It netted Madonna a Grammy for Best Song Written for Visual Media and peaked at number two on the UK Singles Chart (though it topped charts in Canada). Madonna would go on to make a James Bond theme song-- "Die Another Day"-- in 2002, managing to write for both the original spy and the parody within a few years.
5. "I don't want another pretty face."

Answer: Beautiful Soul

Released by teen heartthrob Jesse McCartney when he was only seventeen years old, this track pushed the singer to fame in the mid-2000s as it was the ideal pop track to get pushed by Radio Disney, blowing up his fanbase with the under-20s. Though it only hit number sixteen on both the UK Singles Chart and the US Billboard Hot 100, it managed to top the ARIA charts Down Under and push McCartney into concert tours that would sustain his career and image to the turn of the decade.

In 2008, he would leave his teen pop persona behind in favour of a more modern, adult pop sound not unlike Justin Timberlake.
6. "And I don't want you and I don't need you."

Answer: The Beautiful People

One of the signature tracks of 1990s metal-alternative artist Marilyn Manson, "The Beautiful People" had the pedigree of Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor behind it, and with a catch drum riff, it had the makings of a hardcore earworm. Despite being a harder rock track, it ended up becoming quite popular for Manson, peaking at number eighteen on the UK Singles Chart and topping the UK Rock & Metal Chart (it would only hit number twenty-six on the Billboard US Alternative Airplay Chart). The album it came from, "Antichrist Superstar", would receive widespread acclaim from critics upon its release in 1996, going platinum in the U.S. shortly after.
7. "You can do what you want just seize the day."

Answer: Beautiful Life

Though "Happy Nation", later rereleased in North America as "The Sign", would be the better-regarded album from Ace of Base, "Beautiful Life" kicked off a strong sophomore outing for the Swedish band as they continued their Euro-dance beats into the mid-1990s. "Beautiful Life" was the second single from that disc after "Lucky Love" and it would hit number fifteen on the US Billboard Hot 100 (and number one on the Hot Dance Club Play Chart).

It's likely best-remembered for being one of the key tracks featured in the 1998 film "A Night at the Roxbury".
8. "I'm fed up with my destiny..."

Answer: Beautiful Goodbye

Canadian artist Amanda Marshall was a major player in the female singer-songwriter wave of the 1990s, at least in her native country, and her eponymous debut album was one of the biggest releases of the decade, going Diamond there. "Beautiful Goodbye", the fourth single of seven to release from the album, was probably her most down-tempo ballad but it, nevertheless, hit number five on the Canadian RPM chart, being one of her five top ten hits from that disc.
9. "You're insecure, don't know what for."

Answer: What Makes You Beautiful

One Direction's debut single, "What Makes You Beautiful" was an immediate pop hit from the quintet, catapulting them from a third place position on "The X Factor" into true stardom. The group would end up becoming megastars, performing in their lineup until 2016 before splitting to pursue solo careers. "What Makes You Beautiful" hit radios in 2011 and went multi-platinum around the world.

It reached the top of the UK Singles Chart and number four on the US Billboard Hot 100.
10. "My life is brilliant."

Answer: You're Beautiful

Although James Blunt had released other singles before "You're Beautiful" in the UK, it was this song that made him appear everywhere in the mid-2000s to the extent that the instantly recognizable chorus became parodied in sketch comedy shows the world over.

Despite the fact that it became divisive in its heyday, "You're Beautiful" topped four U.S. Billboard charts and the UK Singles Chart, going multi-platinum in both countries. It was so popular that Weird Al made a version-- "You're Pitiful"-- and that's when you know you've done it right.
