Glynis Johns - Glynis Margaret Payne Johns was born in South Africa in 1923 and died in Los Angeles on the fourth of January 2024. An actress and singer, she won various awards, including a Tony and a Drama Desk Award. She appeared in more than sixty films, including "South Riding" (1938), "49th Parallel" (1941), "The Blue Lamp" (1951), "Mary Poppins" (1964), and "Under Milk Wood" (1972).

David Soul - An American and British actor and singer, David was born in Chicago in 1943 and died in London on the fourth of January 2024. He appeared in lots of films and TV and he is known for his role as H Sergeant Kenneth Richard "Hutch" Hutchinson in the TV series "Starsky and Hutch" that was first televised in 1975. The show run for 92 episodes over a period of four years. In 1977 he had a number one hit with "Don't Give Up on Us".

Mario Zagallo - A football (soccer) player and manager, he was born in 1931 in Brazil and died in the same country on the fifth of January 2024. He was the first player to win the FIFA World Cup both as a player (in 1958 and 1962) and as manager (in 1970). He also won the FIFA World Cup as assistant manager in 1994. Between 1951 and 1968, he played for the Rio clubs Flamengo and Botafogo making 332 appearances and scoring 76 goals. He played for Brazil a total of 33 times, scoring 5 goals.

Sarah Rice - An American theatre actress, was born in 1955 in Okinawa, Japan and died in New York on the sixth of January 2024. Her best appearances came in the shows "Sweeny Todd" and "A Little Night Music" and won a world Theatre Award in 1979.

Franz Beckenbauer - Franz Anton Beckenbauer was a German football player and manager who was born in Munich in 1945 and died in Vienna, Austria on January 7, 2024. As a player he was one of the best defenders to grace the beautiful game and won the FIFA World Cup, the European Champions Cup, and the Ballon d'Or. He played most of his football with Bayern Munich, where he made 427 appearances and scoring 60 goals. He also played for New York Cosmos and Hamburg SV. He played for the National German team 103 times, scoring 14 times. He won the FIFA World Cup as a player in 1974 and as a manager in 1990.

Tony Clarkin - Anthony Michael Clarkin was an English musician and songwriter born in 1946 and died on January 7, 2024. Tony was the founder and leader of the Group Magnum. The group released a total of 22 studio albums, with the 1988 "Wings of Heaven" being very successful, selling 60 thousand copies and reaching number five in the UK charts. Magnum, formed in Birmingham in 1972, stayed together until 1995. Tony went on to form Hard Rain, before a Magnum reunion in 2001. During their first incarnation they released, amongst others, "Chase the Dragon" (1982), "Vigilante" (1986), and "Goodnight L.A" (1990). Their second coming saw the release of "Brand New Morning" (2004), "Escape from the Shadow Garden" (2014), and "Lost on the Road to Eternity" (2014). Their last album "Here Comes the Rain" was announced just before Tony's death.

J.P.R. Williams - John Peter Rhys - He was born near Bridgend, Wales on March 2, 1949 and died in Cardiff on January 8, 2024. He was educated locally and studied medicine at St. Mary's Hospital Medical School with specialization in orthopedic surgery. He played 55 times for Wales, winning three Grand Slam titles in 1971, 1976 and 1978. He also made eight appearances for the British Lions. He also played tennis and cricket.

Bill Hayes - William Foster Hayes III was an American actor and singer, born in Harvey, Illinois in 1925 and died Los Angeles, California on January 12, 2024.
He started his career as a musician and his song "The Ballad of Davy Crockett" hit the top of the Billboard charts between March and May 1955. In 1970 he started portraying the character Doug Williams in the TV series "Days of Our Lives" a role that he played until 2023! He also appeared in various other TV shows. He received the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Life Achievement award in 2018.

Norman Jewison - Norman Frederick Jewison was a Canadian film director born in 1926 in Toronto, Canada and died in Los Angeles on January 20, 2024.
He started his career at CBC Canada, before moving to NBC in the USA. He made his debut in films in 1962 with "Pounds of Trouble" and continued with a host of great films that included "In the Heat of the Night" (1967), "Fiddler on the Roof" (1971), and "Moonstruck" (1987) for all of which he was nominated for Best Director. Some other great films included "The Cincinnati Kid" (1965), "The Thomas Crown Affair" (1968), "Rollerball" (1975) and "The Hurricane" (1999).

Melanie Safka - Melanie Anne Safka Schekeryk or more simply Melanie was an American singer/songwriter born in New York in 1947 and died in Nashville on January 23, 2024. She performed at Woodstock in 1969 which inspired her to write her first hit song "Lay Down (Candles in the Rain)" which was a big success world-wide. She did a cover of the Stone's "Ruby Tuesday", which was also a success. She appeared in a lot of open-air music festivals including Isle of Wight and Glastonbury. In 1972 she had a huge hit with "Brand New Key".

Sean Connery, Kirk Douglas, Diego Maradona, Vera Lynn, Honor Blackman died during 2020.
