Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. For dust you are and to dust you will return.

Answer: Adam

Adam and Eve disobeyed God by eating fruit from the forbidden tree in the Garden of Eden. This resulted in their banishment from Eden. The consequences also included hard work, pain, and death (the return to dust).

Genesis 3:19 - By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return (NIV).
2. Look up at the sky and count the stars, if indeed you can count them... so shall your offspring be.

Answer: Abram

God promised Abram (later Abraham) that he would be the father of a great nation with a new land and numerous descendants. This is known as the Abrahamic Covenant and it is a core component of Judaism.

This promise to Abram (Abraham), and to his son Isaac and grandson Jacob, is mentioned eight times throughout Genesis - 12:1-3 & 7, 13:14-17, 15:1-21, 17:1-21, 18:17-19, 22:15-18, 26:3-4, and 28:13-14.

Genesis 15:5 - He took him outside and said, "Look up at the sky and count the stars - if indeed you can count them". Then he said to him, "So shall your offspring be" (NIV).
3. I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them... (into)... a land flowing with milk and honey.

Answer: Moses

Exodus Chapter 3 describes how God called to Moses from within a burning bush and commanded him to go to Pharaoh to liberate the Israelites from slavery in Egypt, marking the beginning of the exodus. Moses was the agent God chose to facilitate this rescue.

Exodus 3 (NIV)
7: The Lord said, "I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering.
8: So I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey - the home of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites.
4. This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.

Answer: Peter, James and John

The book of Matthew tells us that Jesus took his friends Peter, James, and John up a mountain to pray and while there, his appearance changed. His face shone brightly like the sun and his clothes became as white as the light. This is called the Transfiguration. God's voice from the heavens confirmed Jesus was God's son.

This affirmation is mentioned twice in the Bible - at Jesus's baptism (Matthew 3:17) and at the Transfiguration (Matthew 17:5).

Matthew 17:5 - While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!" (NIV)
5. Before I formed you in the womb I knew you.

Answer: Jeremiah

God said this to Jeremiah to show him that he was not born by accident, but was specially chosen and loved by God even before he was born. He was promising Jeremiah that God had a plan for him and would always be with him always.

Jeremiah 1:5 - Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations. (NIV)
6. Everything he has is in your power, but on the man himself do not lay a finger.

Answer: Satan

The book of Job tells us the story of Job, a good and faithful man, who loved God. Satan challenged God, claiming that Job only loved Him because he was wealthy and blessed so God allowed Satan to test Job. However, Job had true faith and did not turn away from God even when he lost everything - his children, his animals, his health and his wealth.

God rewarded Job for his faithfulness by restoring his fortunes, giving him double the wealth he had before, and blessing him with ten more children.

Job 1:12 - The Lord said to Satan, "Very well, then, everything he has is in your power, but on the man himself do not lay a finger". (NIV)
7. I will wipe from the face of the earth every living creature I have made.

Answer: Noah

God decided to destroy every living creature he had made because of the wickedness of human beings. However, he spared Noah because he was a righteous man and instructed Noah to construct an ark to house himself, his family, and enough animals to repopulate the Earth.

There is a widespread belief that God commanded Noah to take two of every animal onto the ark. However, this is not accurate. According to the Bible, God told Noah to take SEVEN of every clean animal and only two of every unclean animal. Two of each animal, one male and one female, were required for repopulation after the flood. The additional five clean animals were likely required for food or religious sacrifice. However, only two of the unclean animals were required as they would not be suitable for food or sacrifice.

Genesis 7:4 - Seven days from now I will send rain on the earth for forty days and forty nights, and I will wipe from the face of the earth every living creature I have made. (NIV)
8. Why do you persecute me?

Answer: Saul/Paul

Saul was a Pharisee who persecuted Christians and the Christian Church. On the road to Damascus, a bright light from heaven shone on him, and God spoke to him. This event blinded him for three days until he was healed by Ananias. As a result, Saul converted from being an enemy of the Christian Church to become the Apostle Paul (the Roman equivalent of the Hebrew name Saul).

Acts 9 (NIV)
3: As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him.
4: He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, "Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?"
9. Yes, you did laugh.

Answer: Sarah

The Book of Genesis, Chapters 17-21, tells us that Abraham was 100 years old and Sarah was 90 years old when their son Isaac was born. Sarah had laughed at the prediction because she knew she was well past her child-bearing years, but later denied it because she was afraid. When her son was born, as foretold, Sarah named him Isaac (meaning "laughter" or "he laughs").

Genesis 18 (NIV)
13: Then the Lord said to Abraham, 'Why did Sarah laugh and say, 'Will I really have a child, now that I am old?'
14: Is anything too hard for the Lord? I will return to you at the appointed time next year, and Sarah will have a son".
15: Sarah was afraid, so she lied and said, "I did not laugh". But he said, "Yes, you did laugh".
10. Your brother's blood cries out to me from the ground.

Answer: Cain

Cain killed his brother Abel out of anger and jealousy because God favoured Abel's offerings and not Cain's. When God asked, "Where is your brother Abel?", Cain lied and replied that he did not know, and uttered those famous words, "Am I my brother's keeper?"

Genesis 4 (NIV)
10: The Lord said, "What have you done? Listen! Your brother's blood cries out to me from the ground.
11: Now you are under a curse and driven from the ground, which opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand.
12: When you work the ground, it will no longer yield its crops for you. You will be a restless wanderer on the earth".
