At twelve years old, Jesus travelled with his parents to Jerusalem for the Passover. Jesus had stayed behind in Jerusalem without his earthly parents knowing that he wasn't with them when they left. After they found him missing, Mary and Joseph travelled back to Jerusalem to find Jesus.

After finding him in the temple, they told him they were looking for him anxiously. Jesus gave his parents this response, basically reminding them that he was the Son of God, and that he answered to his Heavenly Father.

2. The first red letters in the Bible are found in Matthew 3:15, which tells of John the Baptist baptizing Jesus. Matthew 3:13-15 says that when Jesus came to John to be baptized, John said that Jesus should be the one to baptize him. Jesus countered with this statement, and John baptized Jesus. While being the Son of God, Jesus had a servant's heart, and often lived his life according to that philosophy.

3. During his time on Earth, Jesus spent 40 days in the wilderness, allowing himself to be tempted by Satan. In Luke 4:6-8, New King James Version, Satan told Jesus that he would give him everything he saw, if he would worship him, instead of God. Jesus rebuked Satan by saying, "Get behind me, Satan! For it is written, 'You shall ______ the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve." Fill in the blank.

Jesus allowed himself to be tempted by Satan in order to allow himself to experience temptation in human form. He resisted all three temptations the devil attempted to use. Because of this, Jesus' followers know that any temptation that they are dealt, Jesus will help them through it, because he went through it himself.

4. One of the first miracles Jesus performed is found in John chapter two. During a wedding in Cana, Jesus' mother Mary told him that they had run out of wine. In his reply to her in verse four, based on the New King James Version, does he call his mother by her name?

The Pharisees brought a woman caught in the act of adultery to Jesus, saying that the law indicated that she should be stoned. Jesus said, "He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first." This was his way of saying that everyone sins, everyone makes mistakes, and no one (aside from him) is perfect.

When the Pharisees realized this, they left the woman with Jesus. Jesus asked her, "Where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?" When she said that no one had, he said, "Neither do I condemn you; go, and sin no more." The original phrase from John 8:7 is used, in part, by many people to basically say that no one is perfect, and to not be judgmental of others.

6. In the sixth chapter of Luke, there are a lot of red letters. Jesus, speaking to his disciples, said in Luke 6:37, "Judge not, and you shall not be judged. Condemn not, and you shall not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be ________." Based on the New King James Version, fill in the blank.

Answer: forgiven

Jesus always reminded his followers that they are sinful creatures, just like everyone else. Because of this, they were to treat others the way he would have; free of condemnation, and full of forgiveness.

7. John 14:6 is a verse with red letters, often quoted as a favorite of Christians. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the ______. No one comes to the Father except through Me." Finish his statement from the New King James Version.

Answer: life

Jesus said this because he knew that he was the only way to God. No other person or religion would lead anyone to God. Christians believe that, without Jesus, man would never know God in the way that would lead them to eternal life.

8. Many red letters are words Jesus spoke during his miracles. One in particular occurred when a woman who suffered from bleeding for 12 years, merely touched Jesus' clothes. After asking who touched him, the woman told him why she touched him. In Mark 5:34, New King James Version, Jesus said to her, "Daughter, your ________ has made you well. Go in peace, and be healed of your affliction."

Answer: faith

The woman believed that, if she could simply touch the hem of Jesus' robe as he walked by, she would be healed from her bleeding. When she touched him, he felt power leave him, and knew someone had touched him. Because of the woman's faith in Jesus and his healing power, she was healed.

9. One of the last series of red letters before Jesus ascended into heaven, was what Christians call "The Great Commission." The New King James Version translation in Mark 16:15 says, "Go into all the world and preach the _____ to every creature."

Answer: gospel

Shortly after speaking these words, it is recorded that Jesus ascended into heaven. "The Great Commission" is what Christians are called to; preaching the gospel of Christ to everyone who will listen. The truth of the gospel is one that Jesus believed all people, from all over the world, should hear.

10. The last book of the Bible is not without red letters. The last words spoken in the Bible by Jesus are found in Revelation 22:20. Finish the final statement in red letters, based on the New King James Version. "Surely, I am coming _______."

Answer: quickly

Jesus spoke this line as a warning to all, telling them that one day he would return to Earth. Most of Christianity believes that Jesus will return one day, and take his followers to heaven. No one knows when, but Jesus himself said he was coming back soon.
