Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who witnessed for Christ by doing good deeds and sewing clothes for people in need? (Acts 9:36-43)

Answer: Tabitha

Tabitha, also known as Dorcas, was a widow who lived in Joppa and was "full of good works and charitable deeds." Acts 9:36-43 tell of Tabitha becoming ill and dying.

After her death, Scripture states Tabitha's friends contacted Peter and urged him to visit as soon as possible. The passage goes on to tell of Peter miraculously raising Tabitha from the dead.

Verse 42 states Tabitha being brought back to life "became known throughout all Joppa and many believed on the Lord."
2. Who was a witness of a resurrected Jesus Christ and became a disciple, replacing Judas Iscariot? (Acts 1:26)

Answer: Matthias

Matthias was selected to replace Judas Iscariot, as per Acts 26:1 Also in the running to replace Judas was Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus.

Acts 1:21-22 in the NKJV quotes Peter as saying: "Therefore, of these men who have accompanied us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, beginning from the baptism of John to that day when He was taken up from us, one of these must become a witness with us of His resurrection."

After praying about the matter and casting lots, Matthias was chosen.

However, there is no further mention of him in the New Testament.
3. Who witnessed to an Ethiopian eunuch while he was travelling in a chariot? (Acts 8:26)

Answer: Philip

Philip witnessed to an Ethiopian eunuch who was travelling in chariot and reading Scripture. The account is found in Acts 8:26-40.

According to the passage, the Ethiopian was a high-ranking official serving under Queen Candace. He had gone to Jerusalem to worship.

The passage tells of Philip running alongside the chariot and hearing the man read from the prophet Isaiah. When Philip asked him if he knew what he was reading, the man replied, "how can I, unless someone guides me?"

Philip seized the opportunity to sit with the man in his chariot and explain the message written by Isaiah. Philip explained Isaiah's words stating "He was led as a sheep to the slaughter" are actually in reference to Jesus Christ.

After preaching the Gospel message to him, the eunuch became a believer and asked Philip to baptize him.

The passage ends with "the Spirit of the Lord' whisking Philip away to Azotus.
4. Who witnessed to his brother Peter saying he had found the Messiah? (John 1:40-42)

Answer: Andrew

Andrew is the correct answer. He had been a follower of John the Baptist and became a disciple of Christ after he heard John proclaim Him as 'the Lamb of God.'

John 1:41 states Andrew "found his own brother Simon, and said to him, 'We have found the Messiah'" (which is translated, the Christ). And he brought him to Jesus."

The following verse tells of Simon (also known as Peter) meeting Jesus. The verse states: "Now when Jesus looked at him, He said, 'You are Simon the son of Jonah. You shall be called 'Cephas' (which is translated, A Stone)."
5. What member of the early church was stoned to death because of his witnessing for the Lord? (Acts 7:59)

Answer: Stephen

Stephen is the correct answer. He was the first martyr in the early church. His story is told in Acts 6:5-15 and all of Chapter 6.

According to Scripture, he was an outstanding figure for the early church. Acts 6:8. for example, states he was "full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people." And in Verse 15, it states when Stephen's accusers looked upon him they saw the face of an angel.

The passage goes on to tell of Stephen being stoned and crying out, "Lord, do not charge them with this sin." His final words are reminiscent of Christ's words when dying on the cross: "Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do."
6. Who witnessed to Apollo, an eloquent speaker from Alexandria, "the way of God more accurately"? (Acts 18:24-28)

Answer: Priscilla and Aquilla

Apollo may have been an eloquent speaker, but according to Scripture he needed some guidance on the subject he was speaking about. To this end, Priscilla and Aquila, two workers in the early church, took Apollo under their wings.

According to Acts 18:26, Priscilla and Aquila "took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately."

Their guidance paid off in major dividends, it seems. Scripture states when Apollo moved on to Achaia, he "greatly helped those who had believed through grace; for he vigorously refuted the Jews publicly, showing from the Scriptures that Jesus is the Christ."
7. What two workers in the early church were severely beaten by a mob and after signing hymns at midnight, witnessed to a jailer in Philippi? (Acts 16:20-31)

Answer: Paull and Silas

Paul and Silas is the correct answer. Their highly unusual story is told in Acts 16::20-31. It's a bit of a long story, but in a nutshell, Paul and Silas were seized by a mob and ruthlessly beaten after they had driven a demon out of an unnamed slave girl who earned money for her masters by telling fortunes. With the demon driven out of her, she was no longer able to accurately tell the fortunes of people and her masters were out of a source of income.

Scripture goes on to tell of Paul and Silas locked up in a jail and the two of them praying and singing hymns at midnight when miraculously an earthquake struck and loosened their chains.

Paul and Silas, however, did not make break for it. Instead, they used the occasion to witness to the jailer and convert him to Christianity. Shortly afterwards, the jailer and his household would be baptized.

And people say the Bible is boring!
8. Who wore a garment of camel hair and a leather belt, ate locusts and wild honey, and witnessed to the people, saying they needed to repent? (Matthew 3:1-2)

Answer: John the Baptist

John the Baptist was certainly different. According to Matthew 3:4 John "was clothed in camel's hair, with a leather belt around his waist; and his food was locusts and wild honey." On top of this, he lived in the wilderness.

No doubt his rough clothing was in dramatic contrast to the fancy robes of the religious elite.

Msrk 1:4 states John preached a message of repentance as he witnessed to the people.

He apparently had tremendous success as the following verse in Mark states "then all the land of Judea, and those from Jerusalem, went out to him and were all baptized by him in the Jordan River, confessing their sins."

Even though John appears in only the New Testament, he is regarded by Christians as the last of the Old Testament prophets, as his mandate was to make way for the Messiah.
9. What person in the early church witnessed to King Agrippa? (Acts 26)

Answer: Paul

Paul, of course, is the correct answer. He was known as the apostle to the Gentiles and during his lifetime, he witnessed to thousands of people, not the least of which is King Agrippa. The 26th chapter of Acts is devoted to Paul's presentation to the king.

In Verse 28, the king indicates Paul had a strong case, stating "You almost persuade me to become a Christian."
10. Which one of the original twelve disciples in an epistle he authored described himself as "a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ"?

Answer: Peter

Peter made the statement he was an "...elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ" in 1 Peter 5:1. Peter goes on to state he will also be "a partaker of the glory that will be revealed."

Peter is credited with writing two epistles in the New Testament -- 1 Peter and 2 Peter. Out of the original twelve disciples, he is regarded by many as the shop foreman.
