1. Cy Young was one of the greatest pitchers in baseball history. He began his career with the Baltimore Orioles in 1933, then went on to win 511 career games. He was the first pitcher in the history of the American League to throw a perfect game. The Cy Young award was named in his honor, which was first presented in 1956 to Dodger Don Newcombe. Which of this is incorrect?

Answer: Young's career began in 1890 with the Cleveland Spiders

The American League did not exist until 1901. McLain did go 31-6 in 1968 with the Tigers, and did win the Cy Young award. Newcombe went 27-7 in 1956, and won the Cy Young over Sal Maglie. Don also won the NL MVP in that season. Young's perfecto came in 1904 against the Philadelphia Athletics.

His career record was 511-31. Young played for the Spiders from 1890-1898 before moving to the Cardinals for two seasons. He joined the new Boston Americans of the new American League in 1901, and went 33-10 in the season to lead the lead.

He was far beyond the runner-up Joe McGinnity, who won 26. Young went on to lead the league in wins for another two consecutive seasons also. Charley Radbourn was a great pitcher who went 59-14 with the Providence Grays of the National League in 1884.

He retired 10 years before the American League's inauguration.
2. Babe Ruth played his final season of baseball in 1935 with the St. Louis Browns. A big public relations boost for the team, it didn't work well as the team finished 61.5 games behind the National League pennant-winning Cubs. Ruth hit his final six home runs of his career, ending up with 714 in that season. Ruth died in 1948, after he was inducted into baseball's Hall of Fame in the first-ever induction ceremony in 1936. Which statement is not right?

Answer: The team that Ruth played for in his final season was the Boston Braves

The St. Louis Browns were an American League team. The NL Braves lost 73 games in 1934 without the Babe, then with the Babe lost 115 in 1935. 4. Frank Robinson and Duke Snider would be the last hitters to bat for a Triple Crown in the 20th century. In 1967, Snider won the Triple Crown with the Red Sox. In 1966, the season would belong to Robinson, winning the season and World Series MVP with the Orioles. Duke Snider played for 16 of his 18 seasons with the Dodgers. The first player to bat for a Triple Crown in baseball history was Paul Hines in 1878 with the Providence Grays of the National League. Which of the previous statements is wrong?

Answer: Snider never played for the Red Sox, and it was Carl Yastrzemski who batted for the Triple Crown

Yastrzemski completed the Triple Crown in 1967 by batting only .301 in the season. Robinson did play for the Reds, and won the NL Rookie of the Year in 1956 along with the 1961 MVP with the NL team, then was traded to the Orioles. Snider was a 1980 Hall of Fame inductee, then Robinson was inducted in 1982. Yastrzemski was inducted in 1989. Gehrig of the Yankees died in 1941, after stepping away from the game in 1939.
5. The Rookie of the Year award began in 1905, and the Cy Young award began in 1956. Fernando Valenzuela of the Dodgers was the first player in history to win both awards in the same season in 1981, after going 13-7. He helped the Dodgers win the World Series over the Yankees, four games to two. Where is the error in all this?

Answer: The Rookie of the Year Award began in 1947

The rookie award began with Dodger Jackie Robinson winning it in 1947. Robinson would go on to win the NL MVP in 1949 also. The first American League player to the Rookie of the Year award was Roy Sievers of the St. Louis Browns in 1949.
6. A great archive of MLB films is a day in 1993, when 46-year Nolan Ryan hit a batter with a pitch. Ryan retired after the season, his 27th in Major League baseball after throwing seven no-hitters. Which statement is incorrect?

Answer: The batter was Robin Ventura of the White Sox

Robinson retired more than 15 years before this incident. Ryan pitched for 27 seasons from 1966-1993. He began with the Mets, then played for the Angels, Astros, and Rangers. He threw an amazing seven no-no's in his career, and retired with 5714 career strikeouts, 1500 more than than the career runner-up at the time, the already-retired Steve Carlton.

Answer: The team that defeated the Yankees was the Dodgers

The Orioles were an American League team as were the Yankees in 1963. Koufax was 2-0 in the series along with 23 strikeouts. Don Drysdale, Johnny Podres, and Ron Perranoski won the other games for the Dodgers. Although Koufax won the MVP, Dodger Tommy Davis batted .400, and Bill Skowron batted .385 in the series. Yankee pitcher Whitey Ford, the 1963 AL TSN Pitcher of the Year, threw an ERA of 4.50 in the series.
8. A huge blackeye in Major League Baseball was the Black Sox Scandal in 1919, which the World Series between the Tigers and Reds were marred by accusations of a fix. The Reds won the series five games to three, but as a result, Joe Jackson and pitcher Eddie Cicotte were banned from baseball for life. A total restructuring of Major League baseball occurred in 1920 as a result. Which of the previous comments is not correct?

Answer: The teams were the White Sox versus the Reds

Jackson and Cicotte of the White Sox were not the only players banned from the game after an investigation by Judge Landis. This was the final straw for gambling on baseball games as the issue had come up many times since 1883, when umpires were first accused of 'tainting' the game. Ray Chapman was a Cleveland Indian, who died after being hit by a pitch from Yankee Carl Mays in 1920.

This was the first on-field death in baseball.
9. Roger Maris of the Yankees created one of the biggest asterisks in sports history, when he hit 61 home runs in 1961, surpassing Babe Ruth's season record of 60 (set in 1927). The asterisk was because Ruth hit his total in a 154-game season, whereas Maris hit his in a 162-game season. Mark McGwire would erase the asterisk in the record books when he hit 70 in 1998 with the Athletics. Barry Bonds would later break McGwire's record by hitting 73 in 2001, and without the fanfare that McGwire had. Which statement is wrong?

Answer: McGwire was a Cardinal when he broke the record

Ruth played in 151 games in the 1927 season, while Maris played in 161 in 1961. Because of the season length for the two, an asterisk was placed alongside Maris' record. McGwire was traded from the Athletics to the Cardinals in mid-season 1997. McGwire's 70 home runs came in 155 games played in the season.

His 62nd historical home run came on September 8th off Steve Trachsel of the Cubs. McGwire retired three seasons later with 583 career home runs, after only 16 seasons of baseball. Ruth retired after the 1935 season.
10. A player compiling 3000 hits in a career is a major milestone. Stan Musial of the Red Sox did it in 1958. Musial won the league's MVP three times, and was the runner-up another four times in his career. Stan went to four World Series, winning three. He retired with 475 home runs in 1963, then was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1969. Which of all this is incorrect?

Answer: Musial of the Red Sox

Possibly the greatest all-around player in history, Musial was a 22-season career St. Louis Cardinal. He won the MVP in 1943, 1946, and 1948. More amazing, he was the runner-up for the next three consecutive seasons for the MVP also, then again in 1957. Stan played runner-up to Jackie Robinson, Jim Konstanty, Roy Campanella, and Hank Aaron.

He went to four World Series in 1942, 1943, 1944, and 1946. His only series loss was to the Yankees in 1943.
