The Red Wings swept away the Flyers to win their first Stanley Cup Championship in 42 years. Mike Vernon was named playoff MVP.
2. What Piston hit the game winning shot with :00.7 remaining in game 5 of the 1990 NBA Finals?

Answer: Vinnie Johnson

Vinnie "The Microwave" Johnson made the biggest shot of his career to give the Pistons a 92-90 lead over the Portland Trail Blazers. Because there was only :00.7 remaining on the clock, Vinnie earned the nickname double-O-seven. Terry Porter missed the last ditch three-point effort and the Pistons won their second straight World Championship. Isiah Thomas was named Finals MVP.
3. What year did the Detroit Tigers win their first World Series?

Answer: 1935

In their fifth World Series, the historic Tigers finally became World Champions. The Tigers defeated the Chicago Cubs for the Championship.

The young guard won the award in the sweep of the Los Angeles Lakers. After losing to the Lakers in the 1988 Finals, the Pistons came back in 1989 as the best team in the league winning 63 of 82 games in the regular season and then 15 of 17 in the playoffs.

The Red Wings defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 4-1 in the Finals and Lidstrom won playoff MVP. The coaching legend, Scotty Bowman retired following his record 9th Stanley Cup as head coach.

Gibby, with two runners on, smashed the pitch into the upper deck of right field at Tiger Stadium to put the Tigers ahead of San Diego 8-4. That moment is, undoubtedly, one of the greatest in Detroit sports history. Alan Trammell was the World Series MVP.
