Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In episode 10, the new Titans were sent to Tribal Council halfway through the episode. What was going on?

Answer: At Tribal Council tribe members had to complete a challenge before elimination

The new Rebels won immunity in a come-from-behind challenge and sent the new Titans to Tribal Council. However, at TC, Jonathan told the new Titans that "nobody's vote is guaranteed tonight". He led them to a surprise individual challenge. Players built a frame out of blocks and then threw sandbags through the frame, without knocking it over, and onto a barrel. Only the first three players to complete the challenge voted and those three were immune from the vote.

Aillen, Feras, and Kirby were the first three to complete the challenge. Aileen and Feras were in an alliance but Kirby was on her own and voted for her former tribe mate Raymond who was the third member of Feras' alliance. Aileen told Feras to split the vote between Charles and Winna, two original Titans, in case either had an idol. Winna did have an idol and played it. Aileen voted for Charles, and Feras voted for Winna, giving a 1-1 split vote between Raymond and Charles. Winna's vote was negated by his idol. On the re-vote Charles was voted out 2-1. Aileen's ploy had worked brilliantly.

Editorialisation: This was a new twist not seen on this show nor its parent show before this episode. This twist appeared unfair. In any "Survivor" franchise, your vote is your currency and should be guaranteed at any Tribal Council. Removing a tribe member's vote devalued its worth as game currency. It suggested there was production crew interference to offset what was likely to be a predictable result based on pre-Tribal Council conversations.
2. In episode 11, rocks had to be drawn to see who would swap tribes. Who swapped?

Answer: Alex

In this episode's immunity challenge, players balanced on a ramp holding onto a rope, and had to move up the ramp in intervals. Aileen won immunity for the new Rebels which sent the new Titans to Tribal Council.
Mark pandered to the rest of the "Middle-Aged Mafia" allies as he stated that he "will vote however they want him to", so they told him of a false plan to split the votes between Alex and Rianna when he was the target.

In the end, it did not matter as Jonathan told the tribe that no one was going home. Instead, anyone who received votes would draw rocks to determine who was to be sent to the Titans tribe. Kelli and Alex attracted votes. Alex drew the blue rock and was sent to the other tribe. No one seemed to mind.
3. In "Australian Survivor" (2024) the twists kept on coming. In episode 12, each member of both tribes was offered a scroll containing a clue to the location of a hidden immunity idol. What was the alternative option?

Answer: Feast

This reward challenge was a choice of a feast or players could choose to take a scroll that had directions to a hidden immunity idol at each camp, but there was only one idol at each beach. Titans Aileen, Feras, and Alex took a scroll as did Rebels, Eden, Mark, and Rianna. Everybody else either felt confident of their position or they were very hungry.

Rianna found the idol for the new Rebels, and Feras found one for the new Titans but led the hapless Alex to it as Feras did not want to have a target on his back for finding an idol everyone would know about.

At the feast which was a rare meeting of the two tribes, Kelli divulged tribe secrets to Caroline and Kitty about the other tribe. Kelli appeared to be on a self-destructive path. Earlier in the day after the tribe celebrated the birthday of Kelli's son (and dog), Kirby proposed to vote out Raymond at the next TC. Kelli pushed back and told the rest of the tribe they couldn't dictate how she voted. Kirby talked privately to Kelli about the need for strategic moves but Kelli did not listen. Back at the feast, Kelli told Kitty about the OG Rebels' alliance and how they convinced Valeria and Winna to vote out the Middle-Aged Mafia at the merge. She dropped another bombshell when she stated the people in her alliance hated her and that she "might need to switch alliances soon". Kirby overheard most of this which caused Kirby to believe that Kelli had gone rogue.

At TC, Kelli continued her self-destructive downfall as she declared that she wasn't part of an alliance anymore as she was "thinking as an individual strategic player who protects who she cares about". Val calls Kelli out for divulging information to the other tribe, effectively betraying her tribe. Kirby ratified Val's accusation but stirred the pot to make Alex and Feras uneasy in a ploy to flush their idols. Neither played their idols and Kelli was eliminated on one of the few votes that was not a blindside in the game so far.
4. On this season of "Australian Survivor", the merge came early. To celebrate, the reward challenge had a prize of $60,000 in cash. Who won?

Answer: Valeria

This was the biggest merge in "Australian Survivor" history to date. The merge is the first goal of all contestants. It means they have reached the next stage and usually get to 'stay' when subsequently eliminated as they would then, form the jury, one by one. However,14 people are far too many for a jury so there would be a need for further eliminations before jury members were selected.

The reward challenge prize was $ 60,000 plus a soft bed for the night. However, the winner forfeited their vote at Tribal Council. This was unprecedented: A reward where you lost your vote is a contradiction. This author questioned the veracity of such a ploy - The only plausible reason was that there were 14 votes at the first merged TC and with seven OG Rebels and seven OG Titans, the chances of a tied vote would have been high. A better ploy would have been to offer two votes to the winner. Valeria was overjoyed to win the challenge, which was a simple balancing act, and pocketed the $60K.

In the next challenge, Winna won immunity and the scramble began. The OG Titans thought they had pulled in enough OG Rebels' votes to oust Raymond, lieutenant of Feras. Valeria talked to the original Rebels and with Mark, and Winna wanted to blindside Kitty, but Scott scuttled that plan as he was fond of Kitty in the short time he had known her since the merge. However, the emotional side of this scramble took a toll on Scott. At Tribal Council, Scott made a very dignified, impassioned case for the game itself but confessed his mental health was deteriorating, so he asked to leave the game. JLP confirmed there would be no vote and snuffed his torch.
5. At the second Tribal Council post-merge, there was chaos as almost every player was nervous about the vote. Winna appeared to be the only calm one when he proclaimed that he found "...clarity in the chaos". Who was voted out?

Answer: Winna was blindsided and voted out

In this episode, it became apparent up to four smaller alliances could act as voting blocs: There was the Feras, Aileen, and Raymond trio, Caroline/Kitty/Eden, Mark/Valeria/Winna, plus Kirby and Rianna (and previously Scott), with Alex and Jaden floating as wildcards. Kitty and Caroline gained an ally in OG Rebel Rianna who also gained protection when she won immunity. Mark and Val wanted revenge for Viola's blindside and wanted Kitty and Caroline out.

Caroline and Kitty were on the outer with former OG Titan tribe mates. They got bold and approached OG Rebel Feras who effectively held three votes, to vote out Winna. Feras was receptive as Winna played a part in the Garrick blindside. Caroline did not risk telling Alex and Rianna her real plan. Instead, she told Alex to vote for Val and Rianna to vote for Mark. TC was set for an epic showdown with no one knowing if they were being catfished except Winna who told JLP he found "...clarity in chaos" despite playing his idol several tribal councils ago.

In the final count, Alex and Rianna voted as instructed, Caroline received five votes and Winna six. Caroline's move was a winner, no pun intended, though by leaving Alex and Rianna out of the real plan, Caroline risked losing Rianna. Powerbroker Kirby had lost one of her pawns in Winna but would bring "ride or die" ally Rianna closer now. The game was setting itself up for a fiery end game.
6. Episode 15 saw the reward challenge winner earning a new car. Who won it?

Answer: Mark

So much happened in this episode: Eden wanted to reunite the fractured OG Rebels so he pulled Jaden over to one side to "instruct" him on how to play the game. Up to then Jaden had provided muscle and went along with the majority as his MO on gameplay and had no strategic component to his game.

In the reward challenge which was a multi-stage obstacle course, Mark, Val and Kitty won through to the final round with Mark winning and getting the keys to a $60,000 new SUV for his effort. The prize came with a barbecue for the winner so Mark took his two challenge final round contestants and, surprisingly, Caroline.

However, Mark had a plan and used the meal to play mediator to settle the feud between Caroline and Val. It was a credit to all involved that they were able to put their differences aside and decided to work as a team again (though Caroline still did not trust Mark).

Jaden won immunity again. Preparing for Tribal Council, the OG Titans targeted Raymond. Feras decided to test Caroline and Kitty's allegiance to Feras' alliance by planning to split the votes between Rianna and Val so he could determine their true allegiances.

At Tribal Council it became clear to OG Rebels Kirby and Feras that the OG Titans were working together again so a split vote as planned would not work. Feras whispered Eden's name as a new plan, and the OG Rebels silently agreed on the new plan. At the vote count, Rianna played her idol but did not need to, and the votes were a 6-6 tie between Raymond and Eden. At the re-vote everyone, except Ray or Eden as they were excluded, stuck to their original vote except Jaden who voted for Eden in one of the biggest twists in this season so far. Jaden had finally started to play the game with one of the best quotes at a voting confessional, "This one's for Winna, lad".

It was a shame to see Eden go, as he was a good strategic player with little if any malice in his game. With his ability to quote appropriate movie quotes at the drop of a hat, he added value to the game but he was collateral damage, as Eden was not the architect of Winna's dismissal.
7. The "Survivor" auction a crowd favourite appeared in episode 16. What did Feras bid for and win?

Answer: Dental products

To be fair, the plate was covered, keeping its contents unknown but the previous items had been sold quickly. Feras wanted the chicken 'parmi' and beer, but he didn't drink so abstained from voting. Valeria snapped it up cheaply and gave the beer to Jonathan. (See, Feras?) JLP also scored a bite of pizza as well. Feras was not impressed to get dental products but gladly brushed his teeth and gave away the mints. Raymond bought popcorn and found a scroll in the contents, pocketing it before anyone noticed.

The auction was a bit pedestrian. In "Survivor 45", the producers re-booted the auction concept bringing in fresh new ideas that highlighted how drab the "old" concept was. However, this was shot before "Survivor 45" even though the latter aired first.

Kitty won immunity. Feras was betrayed at the last TC and wanted to capitalise on that by pulling Caroline aside and proposing a secret alliance to the final three. Caroline agreed to this, but he noticed Caroline, Mark, Kitty, and Valeria in an intense strategic chat pre-TC. He smelled a rat and asked Kitty and Caroline who was the target. They both lie by saying they do not know the name of the person about to be voted off even though they were all about to leave for Tribal Council. Kirby and her alliance worked with the OG Titans to vote off Aileen. Feras did not pick it and could have saved Aileen with his idol. Aileen became the first member of the jury.

As the tribe walked back to its campsite, Feras was philosophical and told Kirby that the wedge between him and Kirby had been removed. Kirby agreed. They both realised they had to work together to advance in the game.
8. In episode 17, we saw more than one case of "bigmove-itis" where players wanted to pad out their resume. Which player(s) "flipped" on their alliance which caused chaos at Tribal Council?

Answer: Both of them

In this episode, Kirby and Feras became a power couple, plotting and scheming openly. With Aileen no longer feeding Feras's strategy, the two strategists plotted to stop a re-united OG Titan alliance from picking off the OG Rebels.

However, Kitty realised she needed to do something to distinguish herself from Caroline as she knew she was near the bottom of her alliance. Kitty approached Kirby and agreed to vote off Val along with the new Kirby/Feras alliance of Rianna, Jaden, and Raymond.

However, Raymond told Alex he would be happy to vote with the Titans as long as it was not a vote for Feras. Alex did not tell Raymond the votes were going to oust Jaden. Raymond told Alex his alliance was voting for Val. Alex relayed both nuggets back to Mark.

At TC, two issues arose. Mark whispered to Raymond to vote for Jaden as he was the deciding vote in voting Eden out. However, Kirby and Feras correctly read the game. They changed the vote from Val to Alex and relayed the switch to the rest of the tribe. Rianna, crucially did not get the message.

Before the votes were read, Alex played his idol for Val but it was redundant as she received only one vote from the unknowing Rianna. Alex received four votes from the Kirby/Feras alliance plus Kitty's vote. Jaden received five votes after Raymond flipped, and voted with Mark, Caroline, Valeria, and Alex. Jaden was eliminated and moved over to the jury.

Flips only work when one alliance flips. When both flip, they cancel each other out.
9. We saw Raymond withdrawn and despondent in episode 18. Why did his game change so suddenly?

Answer: He was trying to win an advantage

After episode 17 TC, the tribe tried to figure out what happened when Jaden was eliminated as collateral damage. Raymond was branded a weasel who could not be trusted and withdrew from the group. However, earlier Raymond, when munching his auction popcorn, found an "Ultimate Vote" advantage. This meant if he could get every one of his tribe mates to vote for him, all votes would be negated and his single vote would be the only one that counted. It was a risky move to use such an advantage but the power the advantage held if it can be successfully negotiated was huge.

Raymond capitalised on his ostracisation from the tribe and completely withdrew from the group and did not eat very much at all. He seemed genuinely depressed. He brought Feras in on his act and Feras did his bit to further Raymond's cause.

Alex won the reward challenge and was allowed to take three other players with him on a picnic reward. He took Valeria, Kitty, and Feras with him but in an inept demonstration, failed to use the picnic to discuss any strategic gameplay.

Kirby previously sat back in challenges as she had control of the game. However, now at the pointy end of the season, ramped up her game to win immunity.

Pre-Tribal Council and Ray's plan seemed to be working with only Val appearing to hold out, as she wanted to vote off a more "significant" player. However, Ray rolled the dice and managed to attract every vote. He handed the advantage to JPL who confirmed its authenticity. One by one Ray's name was read out until there was one vote left. Ray had voted for Val.

As Val walked up to Jonathan to have her torch snuffed, Jonathon uttered the usual final words "Val, the tribe has spoken". Val, smart a whip, corrected him and said "No Jonathan, the minority have spoken". Indeed.
10. Alex easily won a reward challenge in episode 19. He took Rianna, Caroline, and Kirby to an overnight spa hoping to maneuver himself into a better position in the game. Who was voted out in this episode?

Answer: Alex

With his main ally in Valeria gone, Mark needed another ally. He realised he was "stuck with Alex". Alex quickly tried to get an all-men alliance together and get the four men to vote as a bloc. This still left four girls. At the reward challenge, a physical one involving a leaky bucket, Alex easily won the challenge and took Rianna, Caroline, and Kirby with him, but again did not use the opportunity to strategise. Rianna and Kirby plotted to oust Alex while enjoying his hospitality. Feras called his ploy or lack thereof, an amateur move.

Kirby, Rianna, Caroline, and Kitty agreed to vote for Alex and brought in Feras to make a majority of five. At TC, Alex demonstrated his ineptness by revealing secrets to both alliances stating who would vote for whom. However, this reveal sealed his fate. He received six votes to Kirby's two.

Alex's game was finished when the last of the Cuddle Crew were eliminated in episode 9. He jumped from one alliance to another without finding either a home or a safe landing.

Eight were left. Which contestant will be eliminated next? Stay tuned for the next installment of "Australian Survivor" (2024).
