Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Maya Lopez lost her mother in which of these events in her youth?

Answer: A car accident

In Tamaha, Oklahoma, in 2007, Maya Lopez enjoys the summertime with her family, camping out in a tent with her cousin, Bonnie. When the rain picks up and the girls head inside to get some hot chocolate, Maya's mother lets them know that they're all out, but that they can make a quick drive to the store to get some more. It's on that night that they have their accident, the brakes in their vehicle evidently having been cut out. Maya's mother is killed in the crash while her leg is severely injured, forcing amputation.

In the aftermath of the accident, Maya's father, William, takes a job in New York City, taking Maya with him. Maya's grandmother, Chula, believes it's not far enough; she blames William and his gang-affiliation for her daughter's death. Maya, in the hospital, blames herself for making her mother go to the store.

Before long, Maya and William pack the car and depart, leaving their family and their lives behind. Maya, already an outsider because of her deafness, then must contend with being a new kid in school. Her father tells her that she needs to focus; he wants her to have a different, better life from him. While he continue working for shady people, some, like Wilson Fisk, take a shine to her.

One day, many years later, Maya stumbles upon another scene that will change her life forever. Coming upon her father's fight against Ronin, she enters the building just as a disguised Clint Barton leaves the scene, arriving to spend her father's final minutes with him. When she buries her father, she receives messages from Bonnie, suggesting that her cousin is there if she needs to talk. Instead, Maya seeks vengeance. Wilson Fisk appeals to her concern, frees her from police apprehension in an unrelated matter, and takes her under his wing, offering her a job in his organization, just like her father before her.
2. Who revealed to Maya that Wilson Fisk was truly responsible for her father's murder?

Answer: Clint Barton

Before long, Maya ingratiates herself not into Fisk's low-level Tracksuit Mafia, but his more violent detail, infiltrating a group during a mission and using her particular martial arts skills to great effect. The catch is that while she executes this mission, she happens to fall into Daredevil's path, getting in the way of an operation he'd been surveilling at the same time. It leads the two to fight each other-- the deaf vs. the blind-- and it's not a fight she's able to win, only survive.

Fisk later commends Maya for surviving the encounter against Daredevil; she manages to be one of the only people to hold their own against the vigilante. It leads to more dangerous missions, all under Fisk's watchful eye, and all the while he promises that he's devoting resources to finding her father's killer.

But one night, when she finally encounters Ronin again, Ronin removes their mask to reveal that they're former Avenger Clint Barton on the inside. And worse, Clint reveals that Fisk wanted her father dead. He killed that branch of the Tracksuit Mafia on a tip from within Fisk's enterprise. Soon after, Maya catches up with Fisk while he escapes his fight with Hawkeye and Kate Bishop and she shoots him in the head.

Little does Maya know, as she flees New York, that Fisk survived their encounter. He recovers from the loss of his eye in the hospital, but the fight is not over.
3. Maya's uncle, Henry, owns which of these establishments?

Answer: Roller rink

Five months after shooting Wilson Fisk in a New York City alley, Maya pulls up to a rest stop outside of Oklahoma to tend to a bullet wound. Exhausted by her ride, and nearly crashing her motorcycle, she finally ends her trip at her intended destination, her family's old house. Finding the spare key and letting herself in, she removes the bullet from her side, passes out on the couch, and dreams of mysterious figures from an unknown past.

Maya's cousin, Biscuits, finds her camping out at the old house and she asks him to keep quiet about her visit; she begs that he not tell their grandmother, at the least. That day she stakes out the fire station, watching her cousin, Bonnie, now a paramedic, from afar before she visits the local roller rink, intending to meet with her uncle, Henry, but unintentionally getting spotted by one of his staffers, out for the bounty on Maya's head. Henry calls in his doctor and has Maya's bullet wound tended to before they finally take the chance to talk. Maya expresses her interest in taking down Fisk's enterprise. She just needs Henry to provide her with a train car, a request he refuses from the jump.

The next day, Biscuits comes by with supplies and, when Maya asks him to hunt down items on an added shopping list, he reluctantly goes ahead, joking that he hopes it's not an illegal ask. It is. That night, when he returns with the items, Maya asks him to drive out to a nearby bridge. She has a plan to enact.

Elsewhere in town, Maya's grandmother, Chula, catches wind of the fact that she's in town. When Chula checks in with Henry, they both agree that they hope she's just passing through. Bonnie doesn't need to know.
4. Maya manages to plant an explosive that destroys one of Fisk's armories. Where does she do this?

Answer: On a moving train

When Maya is driven out to the bridge, she and Biscuits arrive just in time for her to provide a tracker and rappel onto a moving train, passing by below. She instructs him to follow as she leaps down and races across to a guarded train car. Maya manages to break inside and evade being spotted by the armed men standing sentry and, once there, she finds a case and plants her explosives. The escape is more harrowing. As Maya leaps from a train car she accidentally catches her leg in the train coupling. It's only spared from being destroyed when she has a unique vision, granting her unexpected powers to pull the train cars apart. She hobbles to the back of the train, reuniting with Biscuits just in time to jump into his truck bed.

In New York City the next morning, the train arrives at the depot where one of Fisk's men receives and opens the tampered crate. The explosion is enough to destroy the facility. Word gets back to Henry who, immediately, seeks out Maya. She admits to being responsible.

Maya, ends up reaching out to Skully, who operates the local general store, regarding her busted prosthetic. He works on it while she waits in the store but, in the meantime, provides her with a temporary replacement. It's while browsing his wares that Maya comes across a statuette of the first Choctaw, Chafa, who Skully claims they could trace all of their roots back to. The ancestors would watch out for family in times of need, and you might never be able to predict when they would appear. He recommends that Maya ask Chula, but she chooses to avoid her, just like Bonnie.

Biscuits, finally coming back through town with Chula's busted truck, attempts to raise funds to fix the vehicle. It's then that he accidentally reveals to Bonnie that Maya's in town.
5. One of Maya's ancestors, Tuklo, was associated with which of the following?

Answer: The Lighthorsemen

Maya attempts to lay low, but Fisk's men are already in motion based on the train bomb. Zane calls in to Vickie in an attempt to set up an attack on Maya. Meanwhile, news of Maya's presence in Tamaha keeps spreading. Chula reaches out to Skully for advice and news; he tells her to reach out to Maya herself.

Maya, meanwhile, out walking, encounters visions of her ancestors, coming across Chafa, Lowak, and Tuklo, the latter of which warns her of impending danger. It's too late, however. While she stands in her vision, she's ambushed from behind, knocked unconscious, and taken away.

Maya ends up waking up hanging upside-down in the middle of Henry's roller rink and she manages to free herself, loosening the prosthetic leg, before anyone can notice. Vickie and his associates retie her (and Henry, across the room) while waiting for Zane's men to arrive, but in an unfortunate turn, Bonnie arrives seeking out Henry to find the building closed. She lets herself, unknowingly, into the delivery entrance and makes herself an unwitting pawn in Vickie's game. It's a less-than-fortunate moment of reunion when Bonnie's left in the storage room with Maya. That said, Maya's able to break their binds with ease.

By the time Vickie and his associates return, Maya becomes aware that there's something more at play-- someone is coming for her.
6. Who isn't held hostage by Zane's men when they arrive in Tamaha?

Answer: Biscuits

When Zane and his men finally arrive, Vickie asks after the bounty on Maya's head but it becomes clear that Zane's not playing fair. Fortunately, the discussion gives Maya enough time to pull together a makeshift weapon with which she can shoot out the lights. It gives enough of a distraction to allow her to get her hands on a gun, and that gives her a bit of leverage as Zane's men kill Vickie and advance on Henry and Bonnie.

Luring the goons into the back rooms, Maya manages to take most of them out with ease, eventually taking the fight to the rink and using Tuklo's marksmanship abilities to make exact shots on the mobsters. The fight only comes to an end when Maya sees Bonnie in Zane's crosshair. She relinquishes her weapons and allows herself and Henry to go in her place. Fortunately for them, though, Zane's phone rings, and the quick call is enough to stave off their executions.

Once the dust has settled, Henry reminds Maya that there's only one person who could've called off Zane and his men, even if she shot him in the head. Despite his reluctance the previous day, Henry finally picks a side, offering to help Maya if she needs it.

Returning home, Maya is met by Skully who, in the night, finished work on her new prosthesis, one embellished with the designs of a Choctaw warrior. That evening, after a drive through Tamaha, she pulls into the driveway to find Fisk waiting for her.
7. When Fisk arrives in Oklahoma to speak to Maya, he gives her which of these, allowing them to communicate with ease?

Answer: A contact lens

After thirteen years under Fisk's tutelage in New York City, it may come as less of a surprise when he arrives in Tamaha to speak to her one-on-one though Maya appears to regard him as a ghost when she finds him on her porch. She keeps her distance but finds herself surrounded and restrained long enough for him to place a contact lens into her eye, a gift, he says, that he had commissioned so that she can see him speak, visually, in real time. As he pops an earpiece into his ear, he indicates that he is able to listen to her ASL as well. It was important, he says, to communicate with no intermediary.

Fisk is frank with Maya about the situation, claiming that he was impressed with what she did. He claims to not be angry. And with all that's happened, he suggests he still cares a great deal for her. He reminds her that they can only trust each other-- a claim he made before she found out the truth-- and with that, he has a proposition. She wants an empire and she can have his if she returns to New York. He's staying at the Choctaw Casino for one more day; that's as long as she has to think about it.

The next day, Maya lets Henry know that she's been offered 'queenpin'. He worries that she's absolutely capable of owning the role and he expresses his fear that, like him, everyone she loves would be taken away by Fisk. He apologizes for leaving her in New York after her father died, but the decision still lies with her in spite of that.
8. After her reunion with Maya, Chula begins to create which of these in time for the Chocktaw Festival?

Answer: An outfit

As the Choctaw Nation Powwow Festival is prepared at the Tamaha Fairgrounds, a shared vision between Chula and Maya-- one that has them cycling through the sights and sounds of their ancestors' memories-- forces the two to finally reunite. Henry brings Maya to Chula's against her will, but he insists that there's something going on that only her grandmother can help.

When they actually get to the issue, wherein Maya has intense and overwhelming visions of people she's never met, Chula confides that it all makes sense. What she's describing is what she, too, saw when she gave birth to Maya's mother. The ancestors, she claims, always arrived when they were truly needed. And when Taloa was born, she came into the world as a healer, an ability seemingly bestowed upon her by those who came before. The generations, she believes, are echoing and reaching out to help. As Maya departs, angered by the conversation, Chula heads to her studio and begins work on a new garment she now knows to begin.

Maya makes her way to the Choctaw Casino as the day turns to evening and finds the door to Fisk's room already open for her. She keeps her gun drawn on him as he explains he's okay with her decision to want to kill him. As he reminds her that she spent years killing for him and as he admits to having failed her, not unlike his father failed him before he killed him with a hammer, she comes to the realization that she neither needs to kill Fisk to find her solace nor does she need his job offer. Instead, she leaves Tamaha that evening.

And when Fisk finds out, he doesn't take the news well. He cancels his flight and decides to lash out.
9. Which of these, according to Maya's mother, is a messenger of the Choctaw people?

Answer: Woodpecker

On the day of the Choctaw Powwow Festival, Chula stops in at Skully's shop looking for a sewing machine, having sold one over to him years ago. It turns out, he kept hers, not putting it up for sale, knowing she'd be back for it in due time. From there, she heads to the post office, inadvertently running into Fisk.

At the festival, Biscuits unknowingly encounters Zane as he and his men come through in their camper. He wonders where Chula might be.

Maya rides as far as she can away from Tamaha tossing Fisk's contact lens into the trash at a rest stop. She receives messages from Biscuits but pays little attention to them, instead looking out the window to find a woodpecker watching from the parking lot, a sign if she were to believe it. When Biscuits indicates that Bonnie and Chula haven't arrived, she gets back on the road, rushing back home.

Maya stops at Chula's place, gun drawn, and searches for her missing family members, but she doesn't find them. Instead, she finds a vision of her mother, there to provide her with her healing powers and remind her that she's not alone; she has all of the Choctaw that came before and who are a part of her, echoing through her. She steps aside to reveal the garment that Chula made for her, an indication of her heritage in every seam.

That evening, as Zane's men take position with their weapons at the festival, Maya sneaks in with a group of dancers, joining the festivities in her new outfit and keeping her wits about her.
10. In her final fight with Fisk, Maya attempts to do which of these things?

Answer: Force Fisk to face his past traumas

Maya continues with the procession of dancers until she spots the woodpecker perched atop one of the buildings and she breaks off to follow its signal, letting herself in to find that Fisk is waiting for her. He reveals that he has both Bonnie and Chula as hostages. His plan, for defying him, is to kill them like he killed her father. When one of Fisk's men comes in to strike, Maya is able to call upon the powers of her ancestors, imbuing them into her family, to fight off their attackers.

Outside, Henry spots Zane watching from atop his camper and makes his movie. While Biscuits rides into Zane's men, crushing their vans with his repurposed monster truck, Henry fires at and takes out Zane, sending a rocket blast spiralling into the air instead of into the crowd.

Fisk, meanwhile, realizing that Maya has defeated his men, goes in to attack Maya with one heavy blow, but she comes in close with her mother's healing hands and forces her former boss to contend with the memory he'd long suppressed, that of his father beating his mother in his youth. Her attempt to force him to contend with his trauma causes him to reel back, but it prevents him from continuing his assault. He and his men leave moments before the authorities arrive onsite.

Maya remains in Tamaha for a short time after these events come to an end. This time, she says her goodbyes, joining the rest of her family for a barbecue as she departs.
