Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:

"Supercar" was Gerry Anderson's first half-hour series, as well as his first science fiction production. The star of the series was Supercar, a multi-environment craft invented by Professor Rudolph Popkiss and Doctor Horatio Beaker, and piloted by Mike Mercury. It was either the first or second series (some say the first was "Four Feather Fails in 1959; accounts differ) in Supermarionation and scaled-down effects. Cast members in this quiz included Doctor Horatio Beaker, Jimmy Gibson, and Mike Mercury.

"Fireball XL5" was a vessel of the World Space Patrol that policed the cosmos in the year 2062. Commanded by Colonel Steve Zodiac, it was the Andersons' final black-and-white series. It was also purchased by NBC in the United States, becoming the only Anderson series to air on an American network. Cast members in this quiz included Robert the Robot and Doctor Venus.

"Stingray" premiered in October 1964 and ran for 39 half-hour episodes.
Set in the 2060s, the series follows the exploits of the World Aquanaut Security Patrol (WASP), an organization responsible for policing the Earth's oceans. It was the first British TV series to be made entirely in color, and was the first Supermarionation series whose puppet characters had interchangeable heads showing a range of facial expressions. Cast members in this quiz included Marina and Surface Agent X-2-Zero.

"Thunderbirds" remains arguably the most successful of the Anderson-produced series. Set in the 2060s, "Thunderbirds" followed the exploits of International Rescue, a life-saving organization with a secret base on an island in the Pacific Ocean. Operating a fleet of technologically advanced rescue vehicles, it was headed by former astronaut Jeff Tracy and his 5 sons. It has aired in at least 66 countries, and has spawned two feature films: Thunderbirds Are Go and Thunderbird 6. Other adaptations include an anime reimagining ("Thunderbirds 2086"), a live-action film ("Thunderbirds") and a part-CGI, part-live-action remake ("Thunderbirds Are Go"). Cast members in this quiz included Aloysius Parker and The Hood.

"Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons" ran for thirty-two 25-minute episodes, and was first broadcast on ITV regional franchises between 1967 and 1968 and has aired in more than 40 other countries, including the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Japan. Set in 2068, Spectrum agent Captain Scarlet acquires the Mysterons' self-healing power of "retrometabolism" and is rendered "indestructible", being able to recover from injuries that would normally be fatal. Compared to earlier Anderson productions, "Captain Scarlet" is widely regarded as "darker" in tone and less suited to children because of its violent content, as well as its themes of alien aggression and interplanetary war. Despite that, it has been praised for its use of a multi-national, multi-ethnic puppet cast and depiction of a utopian future Earth. A computer-animated remake, "New Captain Scarlet", first aired in 2005. Cast members in this quiz included Melody Angel and Captain Ochre.

"Joe 90" follows the exploits of nine-year-old schoolboy Joe McClaine, who becomes a spy after his adoptive father invents a device capable of recording expert knowledge and experience and transferring it to another human brain. Armed with the skills of the world's top academic and military minds, Joe is recruited by the World Intelligence Network (WIN) as its "Most Special Agent". The 30-episode series was the final Anderson production to be made primarily using Supermarionation Though not as successful as earlier productions, "Joe 90" has been praised for the characterization of its main puppet cast and the quality of its scale model sets and special effects, although it has drawn some criticism for its lack of female characters, especially compared to the Andersons' earlier series. Cast members in this quiz included (surprisingly) Mrs. Harris and Sam Loover.

"The Secret Service" follows the exploits of Father Stanley Unwin, a puppet character voiced by, and modeled on, the comedian of the same name. Outwardly an eccentric vicar, Unwin is secretly an agent of BISHOP, a division of British Intelligence that counters criminal and terrorist threats. Assisted by fellow agent Matthew Harding, Unwin's missions involve frequent use of the Minimiser, a device capable of shrinking people and objects to facilitate covert operations. In hostile situations, Unwin spouts a form of gibberish (based on the real Unwin's nonsense language, "Unwinese") to distract the enemy. "The Secret Service" was the last Anderson series to be made using Supermarionation, combined with extensive footage of live actors in long shot, and was Gerry Anderson's final puppet series until "Terrahawks" in the 1980s. While most of the Supermarionation series are set in the future, the events of "The Secret Service" take place in the then-present day. Cast members in this quiz included Mrs. Appleby and The Bishop.
