William Wiard directed six episodes of "M*A*S*H" during seasons one and two - this episode and "Henry, Please Come Home", "Sometimes You Hear the Bullet", "The Long-John Flap", "Kim" and "L.I.P. (Local Indigenous Personnel)". He passed away in 1987 at the relatively young age of 59.

When an investigative finance officer arrives to look into the back pay issued, the surgeons have to think of a way out. They decide to kill Tuttle off. As Hawkeye explains: "Well, you know Tuttle, no sacrifice too great. This morning, while the rest of us were selfishly having a cup of coffee, he went off in a helicopter to do some field surgery.

He jumped with his plasma, his bag, everything an army doctor needs, except his parachute."
