Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The first Road Block of the race had teams rappelling down the side of Calgary Central Library. How many flags did they need to find there?

Answer: Three

Racing from Winnipeg to Calgary in Leg 1, teams landed to find a Road Block clue waiting for them at the airport, and once they selected a team member they could take a cab to the Calgary Central Library to embark on their first such task. In this challenge, the chosen racer had to head to the roof and perform a rappel down the side of the building, stopping off to read the words on three yellow flags hanging from the side. If they could read all three, remember them, and recite them at the bottom, they could proceed to their next destination: Betty Lou's Library.
2. In Smithers, B.C. in Leg 2, what prompt was given to the teams to decide who participated in the Road Block?

Answer: 'Who likes that new car smell?'

Travelling to the northern B.C. town of Smithers in Leg 2, teams passed into the back half of the leg with a Road Block task at the local car dealership. Heading to Coast Mountain GM, the selected participants (Jaspal, Ty, Gracie, Anwar, Jermaine, Joel, Kayleen, Deven, and Eddie) needed to memorize twenty different features of the all-new Chevrolet Trax RS2.

Then, after reviewing a script, they needed to perform a sales presentation for a prospective buyer in an attempt to sell the vehicle. If they could hit all their beats, they would collect their next clue.
3. Which team did not complete the bungee Road Block in Whistler, B.C., taking a penalty as a result?

Answer: Jermaine and Justin

Visiting Whistler and Pemberton in Leg 3, teams drove themselves to Whistler Bungee for their Road Block task and one member of each duo was required to perform a hundred-and-sixty foot bungee jump to complete their task. Along the way, the jumper would need to use a Samsung smartphone to record a message found under the bridge, then recite that message to the jump instructor to get their next clue. Though Lily, Derek, Ty, Kayleen, Joel, Ben, and Deven completed this task, Justin opted to take a penalty on this one, ultimately forcing him and Jermaine to check in in last place.
4. The Road Block in Tofino, B.C. (in Leg 5) took place in the Pacific Ocean.

Answer: False

The task took place on land as teams headed into the woods near North Chesterman Beach to join a group of aerial dancers on a tough choreography challenge. For this, Tyler, Anwar, Derek, Kat, Amanda, Jermaine, and Gracie all harnessed themselves up and learned nine aerial maneuvers, performing them to the satisfaction of the lead aerialist to collect their next clue. Because of the difficulty of the task, both Tyler and Gracie elected to use their Assist to reduce the amount of maneuvers they needed to five.
5. In Leg 6, teams visited the Niagara Region of Ontario for not one, but two Road Blocks. The first of these involved working at a facility for which of these automakers?

Answer: General Motors

Making their way to the St. Catharines Propulsion Plant in St. Catharines, Ontario, one racer was required to watch a demonstration before assembling and disassembling an authentic eight-cylinder engine at a GM facility. The catch is that the participating teammate had to do so in under two minutes and ten seconds or, else, start over to make an attempt for their clue. Because applicable racers had to use their Express Passes during the sixth leg or lose it, Ben and Anwar and Tyler and Kayleen both elected to use theirs at this opportunity, skipping the task to proceed to their Detour.

This meant that Deven, Jaspal, Ty, and Justin completed the task while Kayleen and Ben bypassed it.
6. At the Château des Charmes in Niagara-on-the-Lake, how many teams used their Assist in the grape harvester task?

Answer: Four

This was a unique instance as teams not only had a double Road Block in this leg, meaning that the second Road Block was required to be completed by the racer who did not do the first, but it was also the last opportunity for teams to use their Desjardins-provided Assist during the race, so the four teams still holding onto theirs (Ty and Kat, Ben and Anwar, Derek and Jaspal, and Deven and Amanda) all used it.

In this challenge, the participating racers (Kat, Anwar, Tyler, Derek, Jermaine, and Amanda) had to navigate a grape harvester through a vineyard, collecting water to bring back to fill two deep troughs. If they used their Assist, they only had to fill one.
7. Teams completing the via ferrata in Saguenay in Leg 8 were met with a code. Which of these cracked that code?

Answer: It was the alphabet, but backwards

Racers headed to the beautiful Saguenay Fjord in Leg 8 and, for their Road Block, one team member had to traverse it, clipping onto the via ferrata guide wire and navigating along the cliffs to locate a puzzle code waiting for them. If they could determine that the code of M=14, E=22 would signify a backwards alphabet, they could decode a mystery location which would also be the destination of their next Pit Stop, La Pulperie de Chicoutimi. Kat, Kayleen, Amanda, Anwar, and Justin did this one.
8. In Toronto in Leg 9, one racer had to use a mechanical ascender to scale up which Toronto landmark?

Answer: Ontario College of Art and Design (OCAD)

Heading to Toronto's largest city in Leg 9, the final four teams opened clues at the Toronto Stock Exchange and headed to OCAD, the unique, raised structure that would act as the site of their Road Block. There, one racer from each pair had to use a mechanical ascender to pull themselves up ninety feet along the pillars supporting the building. If they could reach the top of their pillar, they could grab their next clue. Ben, Tyler, Ty, and Deven completed this task before racing on through the city.
9. There were two Road Blocks in Leg 10. The first of these involved an RCAF helicopter. Which racer did not complete this task?

Answer: All of these racers completed the task

Tyler, Kat, and Ben were all selected to be 'bad with directions' in this penultimate Road Block challenge taking place at CFB Shearwater. For this challenge, they had to hop into a helicopter and, directing their pilots, navigate the airfield to swing and detach a payload hanging beneath their aircraft. If they could land the payload within a marked space within a time limit of five minutes, they would be able to receive their next clue and continue on the course.
10. The race's final Road Block involved riding a jetski in the harbour of what East Coast Canadian city?

Answer: Halifax

For their final Road Block task, Kayleen, Tyler, and Anwar needed to visit the historic Halifax Harbour by first collecting a jetski from the boardwalk, then riding out to Georges Island. There, if they could complete a marked buoy course in under a minute and fifty-five seconds, capping off their ride by collecting an inflatable zebra waiting for them at the end of the run, they could get the clue sending them to their final task back on the shore.
