Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In Leg 3, teams remained in British Columbia, flying southward to what major city to begin?

Answer: Vancouver

Teams headed out from the small Northern B.C. town of Smithers at the start of Leg 3 and were informed that they would be flying south to Vancouver to start. Upon arriving in this major city, they would have to find the Guru-sponsored sign-up board waiting for them in Queen Elizabeth Park.

There, they would get set up on one of two buses that would take them to Whistler, high in the Rocky Mountains. The Whistler inuksuk would be where they would locate their Detour clue.
2. In the 'Woods' Detour task in Leg 3, teams needed to memorize ten words. In the 'Water' Detour, they had to figure out how many?

Answer: One

After their lengthy bus rides, teams ripped open their Detour and chose either 'Woods' or 'Water'. In 'Water', teams visited Whistler's Scandinave Spa and needed to dive into two pools-- one an icy, cold plunge pool and the other a hot water bath-- to locate numbered tiles which, when combined, would spell a word that they could recite for their next clue.

In 'Woods', teams instead raced to the Squamish Lil'Wat Cultural Centre and had to learn the differences between Squamish and Lil'Wat languages, memorizing ten words in each language and translating them back at the Cultural Centre. Most teams completed 'Water' (quickly) while three finished 'Woods'.
3. During the Road Block in Leg 3, teams completing the bungee task had to say what key phrase as they jumped?

Answer: "Will you marry me?"

As soon as teams wrapped up their Detours they received Road Block clues with the innocuous prompt of "who's well-read?". What they found was that the selected team member would need to go to Whistler Bungee and take the on hundred sixty foot plunge into the canyon below.

At the same time, they needed to hold onto a Samsung smartphone and film using both the front and back cameras while locating the hidden phrase "Will you marry me?" Reciting this phrase at the end of the jump would get them their next clue. Lily, Derek, Justin, Ty, Kayleen, Joel, Ben, and Deven were selected for this task.
4. Did any teams utilize the Assist in Leg 3?

Answer: Yes

Finishing up the bungee challenge, teams had to drive sixty kilometres north of Whistler to the Riverlands Equestrian Facility in the Pemberton Valley. There, they would encounter a task in which they had to assemble a banquet area with particular communication. Using only verbal commands, one teammate would instruct the other in assembling a one hundred thirty piece table setting based on an example. If done to the exact specifications, they could get their next clue.

This clue would send players to Big Sky Golf and Country Club where they would have to crawl on their hands and knees searching amongst six hundred golf balls for two featuring the names of their team members. If they used the Assist, which Jermaine and Justin did, they only needed to locate one.
5. Which team was last to check in at the Pit Stop in Leg 3?

Answer: Jermaine and Justin

If teams could locate their two labelled golf balls then they would be able to proceed on foot to the third Pit Stop of the race located at the seventeenth hole of the Big Sky Golf and Country Club.

Gracie and Lily led the pack through the entire leg and managed to translate that lead into a win, taking with them a trip for two to Oslo, Norway courtesy of Expedia.ca.

As Justin opted to take a penalty at the bungee jump task and because he and Jermaine took another penalty at the place setting task, the duo had accrued a six hour time penalty. They arrived at the mat, having used the Assist, in fifth place but dropped to last with the extra time. Fortunately for them, they were spared because they checked in at a pre-determined non-elimination point.
6. How did teams travel from Whistler to Victoria in Leg 4?

Answer: By car

Eight teams ripped open their clues in Whistler, B.C. and needed to drive themselves to Horseshoe Bay to catch a ride on a ferry to Vancouver Island. Upon arriving in Nanaimo, teams could continue their drive through to the Cowichan Valley, eighty kilometres south to the Malahat SkyWalk. Out front there, teams had to use the Expedia app on a provided Samsung Galaxy SmartPhone to book a hotel for the night and tickets for the SkyWalk in the morning.

As soon as the day started, they had to use their phones to take photos of ten driftwood animal sculptures found around the base of the tower. If teams used their Assist, they only needed to photograph five of the ten sculptures.
7. Leg 4, held in Victoria, B.C., contained neither a Road Block nor a Detour.

Answer: True

Though neither of these staple tasks appeared in Leg 4, teams had no shortage of challenges to overcome through Vancouver Island. After the driftwood challenge, teams drove forty kilometres into Victoria searching for Craigdarroch Castle. Celebrating the release of Disney's "Haunted Mansion", teams needed to use their smartphones to watch the movie's trailer and identify ten props found within the castle's rooms. If they could determine the specific rooms and identify them on a map they would receive their next clue.
8. During the Speed Bump in Leg 4, one team need to be covered in spiders while eating which of these?

Answer: Ice cream

Because they were spared from elimination in Leg 3, Jermaine and Justin needed to make their way to a Speed Bump task in Leg 4, and they could do that immediately after their "Haunted Mansion" challenge. For this, they needed to drive themselves to the Victoria Bug Zoo insectarium.

There, they needed to share a pint of ice cream, finishing the treat while also having a live tarantula on their arms. As soon as they were done they could drive to their upcoming Face Off.
9. Teams completing the tent-building Face Off in Leg 4received the assistance of which of these?

Answer: Soldiers

Heading to the Colville Park Sports Field in Esquimalt, teams encountered their first Face Off of the race, having them go head-to-head to complete a task fastest to get their next clue. For this one, teams worked together with the Canadian-Scottish regiment to construct a standard-issue ten-person bell tent. Teams could give direct orders to their assistants but would, otherwise, need to lead the build. Whichever team completed the task fastest would move on with a clue while the losing team would face off again.

The last team, Deven and Amanda, had to wait out a ten minute penalty before continuing.
10. Which team was eliminated from the race at Whiffin Spit Park in Leg 4?

Answer: Shayla and Joel

For their last challenge, teams had to drive to Sooke and locate standing paddleboards waiting for them in the harbour. There, partners would need to work together to find three luggage tags attached to buoys in the water, matching them up to form an Expedia trip itinerary. If they could get all three, they could trade them at the dock to get their last clue of the leg, sending them onward to the next Pit Stop.

Derek and Jaspal came out of Sooke Harbour passing the leading team and it was because of this that they checked in at Whiffin Spit Park in first, winning themselves a trip for two to Nassau, Bahamas from Expedia. Though it was a close finish, Deven and Amanda narrowly beat out Shayla and Joel, eliminating the siblings in eighth place.
