Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Racers completed a Road Block at the start of Leg 9 in Toronto. Their clue asked for which of these?

Answer: 'Who's feeling artistic?'

Only four teams were left to leave the Saguenay Region of Quebec at the start of the race's penultimate leg, and opening their clues they were instructed to fly back to Montreal, then take the VIA Rail train from Montreal Central to Toronto's Union Station. Earlier teams would get on the first train, getting them into Toronto an hour and a half earlier than the others. This being said, all teams arrived in Toronto and waited until the next morning to ring the bell at the Toronto Stock Exchange. Teams left the Stock Exchange in the order they arrived.

Hitting the streets, teams might have been misled by their Road Block hint as it asked for 'who was feeling artistic'. Though they were sent to the Ontario College of Art and Design (OCAD), there was no art to be had. Instead, racers had to mechanically ascend 90 feet up the the pillars beneath the raised building to get their next clue. Ben, Tyler, Ty, and Deven completed this challenge.
2. For the race's final Face Off, teams went head-to-head on a Toronto rooftop competing in what sport?

Answer: Tennis

Racers wrapped up their Road Block before being directed to the Hotel X Toronto building at the Canadian National Exhibition grounds. There, they would encounter the race's final Face Off, and need to go head-to-head against each other in a series of tennis matches. On the 10XTO rooftop courts, racers would compete in a series of five doubles matches. Teams to win the best-of-five could continue; the last team waiting would receive a penalty. Said penalty went to Ty and Kat, who arrived at the task in last.
3. Racers had to memorize a script and perform an alien encounter in Leg 9. In what language did they speak for this task?

Answer: A gibberish one

When teams pushed out of their Face Off they were told to take a cab to The Immersion Room, crossing the city and taking a breather after two intensely physical challenges. Upon arriving, they needed to dress as astronauts and memorize a script for an alien encounter.

The catch is that racers would have to do so in a completely made-up language (named Blergh), reciting their lines word-for-word and then taking a selfie with an alien on a Samsung smartphone to get their next clue. If they could accomplish all of this, they could race back across town to Kensington Market and get their next task at the Fika Cafe.
4. Racing around Toronto in Leg 9, teams had to visit numerous neighbourhoods shopping for hard-to-find items. Which of these was not amongst them?

Answer: Pierogis

Reaching the Fika Cafe in Kensington Market, teams were told to embark on a shopping trip around Toronto's varied neighbourhoods, and in each they would have to get their hands on difficult-to-find, non-local items. Their shopping lists contained five items: a package of channa dal from Parkdale; Kimchi from Koreatown; White sesame from Chinatown; and Cactus leaves and plantains, both in Kensington Market. If they could find all of these from their race-flagged-marked shops, they could get their last clue for the leg.
5. Which team was eliminated from the race at the end of Leg 9, leaving in fourth place?

Answer: Deven and Amanda

Once teams finished their shopping tour of Toronto, they could proceed to the edge of Lake Ontario and step on the Pit Stop mat on Sunnyside Beach, hoping for a spot in the final three and the last leg. This time, Tyler and Kayleen landed on the mat in first place to secure that spot, winning themselves a trip for two to Melbourne, Australia courtesy of Expedia.ca.

The pair were followed by alliance-mates Ben and Anwar and front-running team Ty and Kat who checked in in second and third. It meant that Deven and Amanda were last to hit the mat and, as such, they were eliminated just before the final leg.
6. For the final leg of the race, teams flew to Nova Scotia. Was this the first East Coast stop on this season of the race?

Answer: Yes

Departing from Downtown Toronto at the start of Leg 10, teams ripped open their clues and were told to head to the airport for a flight bound for Halifax, Nova Scotia, the teams' first and only stop on the East Coast for this race. Upon landing, all three teams were able to take a cab to Fisherman's Cove in the community of Eastern Passage.

There, they could open up their clue box, grab a number, and prepare for a Road Block first thing in the morning.
7. In Leg 10, racers faced two Road Blocks. The first of these involved which mode of transportation?

Answer: Helicopter

For their first Road Block in Leg 10, teams had to select a team member who was 'bad with directions'. For this task, one member of each pair joined the Royal Canadian Air Force, hopping into a waiting helicopter at CFB Shearwater and helping the pilot navigate to a marked spot on the airfield's grounds to drop a payload slung beneath the aircraft. If they could hit the target in five minutes or less, they could keep racing. Tyler, Kat, and Ben completed this challenge.

Following this task, racers had to travel to a specific Staples location in Halifax. There, they could collect a Samsung phone, hop on the ferry from Dartmouth's Alderney Ferry Terminal, and proceed with the clue found there into Downtown Halifax.
8. At the Grand Parade square in Halifax, racers needed to learn three types of dances. Which was not amongst them?

Answer: Cossack dance

Heading to Woozles Bookstore in Downtown Halifax (based on a clue found on their ferry), racers had to listen to recitations of three local children's books and memorize the contents within. Then, using pictures outside the store, they needed to properly order the illustrations for each book to get their next clue.

This would end up sending teams to the Grand Parade where they had to engage with a gauntlet of dances, all relating to Nova Scotia communities involved in the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo. If teams could properly execute a highland dance from Scotland, an Indigenous shawl dance, and a Punjabi banghra dance, they could receive their next clue.
9. The final Road Block of the race, encountered in Halifax Harbour, could be completed by either member of each team.

Answer: False

As Tyler, Kat, and Ben were selected to complete the Road Block earlier in the leg, it meant that Kayleen, Ty, and Anwar were required to complete the second, found after completing the dance challenge at the Grand Parade. For this final Road Block of the race, team members needed to head to Sea Halifax on the Halifax Waterfront Boardwalk.

There, the required racers needed to hop aboard a jetski and ride to Georges Island National Historic Site. There, the racer had to ride a winding course in under a minute and fifty-five seconds, collecting an inflatable zebra, to get their next clue.
10. Which team won "The Amazing Race Canada 9"?

Answer: Ty and Kat

Following the last Road Block, teams had one more order of business: their memory challenge. Heading to the Queen's Marque on the Halifax Waterfront Boardwalk, racers needed to solve a massive crossword puzzle with answers recalling events from all ten legs of the race. Once they had all twenty-five clues answered correctly, they could get their final clue and head to the Bonaventure Anchor, the finish line.

After six provinces, eleven cities, and over twelve thousand kilometres, it was Ty and Kat who crossed the finish line first, winning themselves the all-new 2023 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2, a trip for two around the world courtesy of Guru Organic Energy and the $250,000 prize (powered by Samsung).
