Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Tribes, this season, arrived on the beach on a rougher day. Two of those tribes had to complete a Sweat or Savvy challenge, but did either win?

Answer: No

Arriving on the beach, eighteen new castaways were split into three tribes-- Yanu, Nami, and Siga-- and put into their very first challenge posthaste, the typical expectation in the 'New Era' of the 40s. While the orange-clad Nami tribe won, Siga members attempted a word puzzle for Savvy and Yanu tribespeople tried to work out Sweat. Ultimately, neither of those tribes succeeded and, as such, did not collect a pot, machete, or flint on their first day. Yanu wouldn't get a flint until Day 11.
2. On Day 7, which contestant was evacuated from the game?

Answer: Randan

On Day 7, it was Randen, of the Nami tribe, who called in the medic after a bad night of sleeping in the shelter. Feeling an odd zap on his right side and unable to grip with his right arm, medics determined that he had a trapped nerve and could succumb to longer-term damage if left unmanaged.

As a result, he left the game with the Beware Advantage for the Nami tribe in his pocket and Yanu, anticipating a third Tribal Council, was spared from having to vote again...for a couple days.
3. Did this season feature a tribal swap prior to the merge?

Answer: No

While "Survivor 44" and "Survivor 45" brought back the tribal swap in their seasons (for the first time in the 'New Era'), "Season 46" kept everyone on their original tribes, perhaps because the Yanu tribe wasn't completely wiped out of their own accord.

Instead, players kept plugging along at the game until an early merge prompt on Day 12, remaining with their original tribes. By this point, every tribe had lost at least one player whether through competition or evacuation. Only the Nami tribe had yet to see an actual Tribal Council, receiving their torches at the first merge vote.
4. This season saw three Journeys take place, all during the tribal phase of the game. What happened at each of these?

Answer: Players lost votes

As with the past seasons, the Journeys allowed one member of each early tribe to meet with others and potentially compete for mysterious, game-changing advantages though, typically, these were meant with severe risk, and most times, the players lost out.

On Day 2, Maria and Tevin got extra votes for their first Tribal Councils while Jelinsky lost his vote, getting sent home almost immediately.

On Day 7, Liz, Ben, and Bhanu united and after Bhanu gave away most of his team's dynamics and led to his own elimination (eventually), he and Ben lost their votes.

Day 11 was the final Journey, visited by Hunter, Tim, and Q. The three of them formed a ramshackle alliance that struggled to hold together post-merge while Hunter, staying back to complete a "Survivor" knowledge challenge, lost his vote.
5. Only one player used their Shot in the Dark this season. Who was it?

Answer: Moriah

As soon as the merge came to pass, players were placed in the New Era merge purgatory, only receiving buffs and a merge feast if they won a requisite challenge. Everyone left over was put to Tribal tribeless, and the whole group of eleven had to sent one more player home to lock in for the back half of the game.

After a day of scrambling, the vote ultimately boiled down to sending home either Moriah or Venus, both of whom were seen as too volatile and deceptive to work with, but it was the former who was voted out, leaving twelve in the game. Though she used her Shot in the Dark at this time and lost her vote, it was not successful.
6. This season's merge tribe went by what name?

Answer: Nuinui

On Day 12, players were given the 'drop your buffs' prompt and taken to Nami's beach, departing ten minutes after they received their tree mail. Per usual, no one received buffs, no one received a welcome package; no one would be able to proceed with the knowledge of their new tribe colours until after splitting into two teams for their first challenge as a somewhat-united group. Nuinui, as a tribe, would bear red buffs for the remainder of the game.

The meaning of the name loosely translates to the Fijian word for 'hope'.
7. Which player, threatening to quit the game at Tribal Council on Day 16, effectively derailed most of the alliances of "Survivor 46" through his actions?

Answer: Q

After facing the dreaded double elimination (involving a split tribe) on Day 14 and starting the jury selection process with Soda, the tribe of (now) ten frantically tried to restake any sort of stable path through the game, and with Tim being eliminated, Q attempted to find this path by rebuilding his alliance of 'The Six' with Charlie. The problem truly emerged when Liz, realizing Tevin's threat level in the game, committed to getting him blindsided and eliminated at next Tribal, leaving Q with the idea that it would be best to walk away from the game to spare anyone else the trouble.

Naturally, this led to a live Tribal in which no one felt safe in their votes. While Liz acted with conviction and created an easy path to have Tevin eliminated, Tiff discovered that Q had revealed her Hidden Immunity Idol to others. Tevin was sent home, but it left Q unable to work with his former allies, Tiff would be blindsided, and Charlie and Maria's strong, low-key alliance would shatter by top six.
8. During a notable late-game Reward Challenge, Liz melted down over being unable to enjoy a feast provided by what show sponsor?

Answer: Applebee's

Day 18 was a big day for the Reward Challenge wherein the winner (and three people of their choosing) would be able to head to the Survivor Sanctuary (where good things happen!) to enjoy the menu of an Applebee's feast. Q ended up winning the challenge and bringing Tiff, Maria, and Kenzie to share the meal and what resulted was a major crash-out for Liz who, having already expressed that Applebee's was her weekly "Survivor" ritual with her daughter at home, melted down in front of the others. Allergic to most things on the island, it would be one of the only opportunities for Liz to eat and, worse, the meal featured her favourite burger. The cherry on top was her acknowledgement that Q had already blown up her game.

Naturally, by the time the burgers came out for the meal, the diners were getting too full to enjoy it.
9. How many Hidden Immunity Idols were played this season?

Answer: None

Most of this season's Hidden Immunity Idols were collected before the merge, and always through the completion of a Beware Advantage's tasks. Tiffany found one with Yanu and Jem had hers from Siga. Randen found Nami's but never opened the chest containing it, having been evacuated before doing so; Hunter picked it up moments before the merge took place.

For all three users-- Jem, Hunter, and Tiff-- the players were voted out without using them, a consequence of playing too shrewdly and believing themselves to be just safe enough to get by. Venus found a late-game idol on Day 20 and was eliminated during the very next Tribal Council, and then Q found the same idol on Day 22 only to get blindsided once more.

As a result, only tribal and individual immunities really counted for it this season; the threat was enough to keep the game going.
10. Which castaway won "Survivor 46"?

Answer: Kenzie

The end of the game saw a final three in Kenzie, Charlie, and Ben with Kenzie scrambling to the top having been on the failing Yanu tribe from the jump and the other two being original Siga members. In the final days, Kenzie managed to turn out a win in in the fire-making challenge and then plead a stronger case to the jury of eight, taking five votes to Charlie's five (from Liz, Hunter, and Soda) while Ben took none, believed to have not made any strategic plays throughout the twenty-six days in the game. Kenzie took the Sole Survivor title and the $1,000,000 USD prize.
