Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. At the start of Leg 4, teams flew to Athens, Greece. Which team was held back to observe a mandatory COVID-19 quarantine?

Answer: Kathy and Chace

Leaving the colourful city of Chefchaouen from the clock tower in Place El Haouta, all remaining teams (save for Kathy and Chace, required to quarantine due to a positive COVID-19 test) were told to make their way to the capital of Greece, Athens, getting there by flying from Tangier, a flight nearly three thousand kilometres across the Mediterranean. Teams departed from the airport in Athens in the order they arrived at the previous Pit Stop discovering that it had snowed in the capital before they arrived.
2. Visiting the Temple of Poseidon in Leg 4, teams had to recite which of Aesop's fables?

Answer: The Tortoise and the Hare

To begin their fourth leg, teams made their way to Attica Grove Theatre where teams needed to take turns and use modern-day bows and arrows to hit a bullseye on a provided target. If they could score one direct hit, they would be able to receive their next clue and travel out of Athens to the Temple of Poseidon in Sounion. Once there, they needed to learn and recite the five verses of the classic Aesop fable, 'The Tortoise and the Hare' (race-themed, I know), for a Thespian dressed as Poseidon. If they did so correctly and in unison, they would receive their next clue.
3. In Leg 4, teams completing the 'Step Down' Detour had to make which of these?

Answer: Sandals

Returning to Athens as night fell, teams visited the Technopolis to complete their Detour task, either 'Step Up' or 'Step Down'.

In 'Step Up', teams needed to dress in the garb of the Greek Presidential Guards and learn the march and procedures of the changing of the guards. Pako and Mori, Lauren and Steph, Angel and Frankie, Chelsea and Jamus, Flick and Gabby, Morgan and Lilli, Stuart and Glennon, and Sam and Alex took this challenge on.

In 'Step Down', teams instead put their craftsmanship to the test, creating two pairs of Greek sandals based on a provided example. If they could complete the sandals and have them remain intact through a three-legged race, they could get their next clue. Crystal and Reem, Tammy and Vincent, Kelly and Georgia, Fliss and Tottie, Jodie and Claire, Heath and Toni, Tiffany and Cynthia, and Sam and Stu opted into this one.
4. To wrap up Leg 4, teams had to eat which of these at the Taverna Platanos in Athens?

Answer: Spanakopita

Completing their Detour tasks in Athens, teams ended off the leg with a hearty Greek meal. Heading on foot to Taverna Platanos, team members had to take a full serving of the Greek dish spanakopita and feed each other half. When their plates were emptied, the taverna chef would give them their next clue and they could race on to the Pit Stop.
5. Which team was last to arrive at the Pit Stop in Athens (at the end of Leg 4), getting eliminated?

Answer: Sam and Alex

Teams wrapped up a long evening in Athens after dining on spanakopita as they were told to race on foot to the central Kotzia Square to find Beau at the next Pit Stop in front of Athens Town Hall. Angel and Frankie landed on the mat first, steps ahead of Lauren and Steph (who led the way to the landmark), to claim their second win of the race, having won their first leg in Marrakech.

The back of the pack featured a footrace across the Greek capital and Sam and Alex, who trailed through the Detour, checked in on the Pit Stop in last place. Unfortunately it meant that the couple were eliminated from the race.
6. Teams started the fifth leg of the race at the site of their fourth Pit Stop (in Athens).

Answer: False

After ending off their previous night in the city of Athens, teams were flown as a group to the island of Santorini, the site of their fifth leg, where they would depart from the airport in the order they checked in. To kick off this leg, they would be required to hop into a vehicle and drive themselves twelve kilometres to the island's south fishing village, Vlychada, to find a clue at its fishing port. What teams didn't know was that they would need to drive manual transmission vehicles.
7. Out of the fifteen competing teams, how many completed the 'Bustle' Detour task, repairing fishing nets in Leg 5?

Answer: Two

Reaching the docks at Vlychada, teams found their Detours waiting and they were asked to choose between 'Hustle' and 'Bustle'. 'Hustle' was a sorting task, and for this one, teams needed to dip their hands into the catch of the day to sort octopus, bass, and sardines to proper amounts to bring back to a local fishmonger. 'Bustle', on the other hand, required that participating teams take tangled fishing nets, untangling a five meter-long damaged net, and getting the approval of the captain to get their next clue. Only Tiffany and Cynthia and Jodie and Claire completed 'Bustle', doing so in a quicker time compared to the other teams' Detours.
8. What animal did teams need to bring up the Karavolades Stairs in Leg 5?

Answer: Donkey

Finishing their Detour tasks, teams needed to make their way to the island's central town, Fira. Upon arriving they had to take a cable car to the old port, collect fifteen kilograms of luggage from the town's docks, and bring it up the Karavolades Stairs, a total of five hundred and sixteen steps from bottom to top. Additionally, they needed to grab a donkey, normally used to carry said items, and bring it to the top as well (giving it the day off). If they could deliver both, they could hop back into their waiting cars and continue on.
9. Racers learned parkour for their Road Block in Leg 5, getting taught how many unique moves for their Road Block task in Santorini?

Answer: Five

The last task of the day in Santorini, the Road Block, sent teams north to the town of Oia where one member of each team had to 'fly like the wind'. For this task, racers needed to learn parkour, joining a professional in performing a series of parkour moves along a course of Santorini rooftops. If they could execute three of the five moves shown in their run-through, they could get their next clue.

Heath, Jodie, Gabby, Kelly, Pako, Tottie, Tammy, Lauren, Reem, Chelsea, Frankie, Morgan, Stu, Stuart, and Cynthia completed this task.
10. Which team was last to check in at the Pit Stop in Santorini at the end of Leg 5?

Answer: Tiffany and Cynthia

Once teams rolled out of their Road Block in Oia, they could proceed on foot to the next Pit Stop waiting for them in front of the Church of Panagia Akathistos Hymn. Though they were second to leave the Road Block, Heath and Toni managed to navigate the winding, narrow alleys of Santorini the fastest and land on the mat in first place, winning the leg. The couple won a $5,000 travel voucher to anywhere in the world courtesy of 10 Travlr.

After an exhausting fifth leg, Tiffany and Cynthia were the last team to land on the Pit Stop mat. Beau, however, informed them that they had checked in on a pre-determined non-elimination leg and they were still in the race.
11. Teams were taken to Arachova in Leg 6, starting their day with which of these?

Answer: A stair-climb

Between Legs 5 and 6, the sixteen competing teams were taken from their Pit Stop on the island of Santorini and flown back to Athens whereupon they were taken to the town of Arachova in the foothills of Mount Parnassus. Ripping open their clues to start the leg, teams were told to head to the Church of Saint George for a Greek wedding, but to get there, they needed to climb the two hundred sixty-four stairs of the Egarsios Steps, braving the cool, thin mountain air, to get to their task.
12. For their Greek wedding task in Arachova in Leg 6, teams needed to place Euro notes on the outfit of which participant?

Answer: The bride

Reaching the Church of Saint George, teams needed to be a part of their very own Greek wedding by dressing as a bride and groom and, in keeping with Greek tradition, the selected groom needed to pin 10,000 to the bride's dress (using only 50 notes). If the bride could spin three times without notes falling off, then they could receive their next clue and head to a waiting charter bus.
13. Tasks that were scheduled for the Arachova leg of the race ended up getting cancelled due to which natural event?

Answer: Blizzard

As teams left the Greek wedding they were shuffled into one of two charter buses heading to Mount Parnassus and, there, they could hop into a chairlift at the Clock Tower Overlook and head up to the summit. From there, dangling above the side of the mountain in the lift, they would be able to take snow bombs and toss them at a target to collect their next clue.

The catch was that teams encountered this challenge when Mount Parnassus was placed under an unexpected blizzard warning. As such, this task was cancelled and teams were given an alternative challenge to overcome.
14. Teams had to build a snowman in Leg 6, and hit had to meet the height of which of these?

Answer: A shepherd's staff

As the snow bomb task on Mount Parnassus had to be scrapped (as well as an unaired Detour challenge), teams' buses to the summit were turned around and they returned to the bottom of the mountain for a replacement challenge. For this, teams needed to build themselves a snowman, creating it to the height of a shepherd's staff with two button eyes, a carrot nose, a scarf, and a hat. If they could get the task done and pack it in, they could get a seat on one of the buses back to Arachova.
15. Which team was eliminated from the race at the end of Leg 6 (in Arachova, Greece)?

Answer: Sam and Stu

Teams headed back to the edge of the town of Arachova by bus and were dropped off on the outskirts of town with the instruction to find Beau at their next Pit Stop waiting in front of the Church of St. George the site of the wedding challenge, a nearly two kilometre footrace from their disembarkation.

After this long run at high altitude, it was Pako and Mori holding their lead and landing on the mat in first place-- their first win after three second-place finishes. Checking into the Pit Stop in last place, overtaken by Stuart and Glennon on the uphill race to the mat, Sam and Stu ended up being last to check in and they were eliminated in 16th.
