Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Law & Order"
Answer: Jack McCoy
Played by Sam Waterston.
Jack McCoy became Executive Assistant District Attorney after his predecessor, Benjamin Stone, resigned. He had a rather bad habit of starting romantic relationships with his female ADAs. Before he became EADA, he'd had affairs with three ADAs, one of which he married. After becoming EADA, he had an affair wiht ADA Claire Kincaid. After she died in a car accident, he never had affairs with his female ADAs.
McCoy often bends or breaks rules to get convictions.
2. "This Is Us"
Answer: Jack Pearson
Played by Milo Ventimiglia.
Jack Pearson is the father of triplet children: Keven, Kate, and Kyle. Sadly, because of birth complications, Kyle was stillborn. A foundling baby, Randall, who was left at a fire station, needed a family. So Jack and his wife Rebecca take him in, eventually adopting him. The twist is that the Pearsons are white, while Randall is black. But they raised the children as siblings, not singling Randall out.
Jack dies after their family home burned down when the children were 17. He managed to save all the family, including Kate's dog, Louie. The paramedics instruct the family to go to the hospital for further evaluation. The doctor there was surprised at how well Jack was doing because of all the smoke he'd inhaled in his heroic efforts to go in and out of the burning house rescuing his family. However, when Rebecca left to go get snacks for the children, Jack has a sudden heart attack and dies.
The series "This Is Us" was two shows in one. Most of the show centered around widow Rebecca and her now-adult children and their families. But there were flashbacks in every episode that told the story of Jack and his efforts to raise three children with Rebecca.
3. "Will & Grace"
Answer: Jack McFarland
Played by Sean Hayes.
Jack McFarland was an openly-gay man. He was Will Truman's best friend, having helped Will come out when he was in college. He is a struggling actor who puts on a one-man show he first called "Just Jack".
4. "Lost"
Answer: Jack Shephard
Played by Matthew Fox.
Dr. Jack Shephard was an American spinal surgeon. His personal life was in tatters before the plane crash that stranded him and other survivors of Oceanic Airlines Flight 815. But on The Island, the survivors looked to him for guidance, making him their de facto leader.
5. "30 Rock"
Answer: Jack Donaghy
Played by Alec Baldwin.
Jack Donaghy is a slick, yet scrupulous TV network executive. After he takes the place as Vice President of East Coast Television and Microwave Oven Programming at NBC, he retools "The Girlie Show" (which by its name was centered around female humor and viewpoints) to include a new star, male comic Tracy Jordan, and renames the show "TGS with Tracy Jordan".
6. "24"
Answer: Jack Bauer
Played by Kiefer Sutherland.
Jack Bauer is an agent of the Counter Terrorist Unit. The show centers on a terrorist threat to the USA, with Jack in the middle of the action. The episodes were shown in "real time"; that is, each one-hour episode was one hour of the story, with all 24 episodes of a season representing one full day.
7. "Bones"
Answer: Jack Hodgins
Played by T.J. Thyne.
Dr. Jack Hodgins is a mineralogist, botanist, and entomologist who works for the Jeffersonian Institute (a fictional doppelgänger of the Smithsonian Institute). He works with Dr. Temperance Brennan on the murder cases she's given by FBI agent Seely Booth. They often have to work with seriously degraded physical evidence. His scientific expertise is often utilized to find the true location of where crimes were committed.
8. "Star Trek: The Next Generation"
Answer: Jack Crusher
Played by Doug Wert.
Lieutenant Commander Jack Crusher was Jean-Luc Picard's best friend and first officer aboard the USS Stargazer. He was married to Dr. Beverly Crusher and father to Wesley Crusher. He died on an away mission when Wesley was only 5 years old.
Beverly later had an affair with Jean-Luc, and conceived a son. Beverly named him Jack, after her late husband.
9. "Torchwood"
Answer: Jack Harkness
Played by John Barrowman.
Captain Jack Harkness was a Time Agent from the 51st century. He had lost his memory and became a con man. He used his time-travel ship to set up bait-and-destroy cons. He met The Doctor, and after having his con thwarted, joined The Doctor and Rose Tyler on their travels.
After Rose gazed into the heart of the TARDIS, she became nearly omnipotent. Not being able to fully control her new powers, she imbued Jack -- who had just been shot dead by Daleks -- with immortality. Since he was now a "fixed point in time", The Doctor left him in the 2001st century.
Eventually, Jack was able to use his vortex manipulator to jump back in time to meet up with The Doctor in the 21st century, which is when Rose joined up with him. However, the vortex manipulator was damaged, and it sent him instead to the 19th century. He had to live through the 20th century to finally meet up with the Doctor in the 21st.
While in the 19th and 20th centuries, Jack worked for Torchwood Institute, an organization founded by Queen Victoria to investigate and fight alien threats and to secure alien technology for the good of the British Empire.
After much of Torchwood had been destroyed in various alien incursions, Jack held together the Torchwood Cardiff office. From there, he and his four remaining agents continued to battle alien threats to Earth.
10. "Three's Company"
Answer: Jack Tripper
Played by John Ritter.
Jack Tripper was a US Navy veteran who attended the Los Angeles Technical College on the GI Bill, studying for a degree in culinary arts. He later opened his own restaurant, Jack's Bistro.
Jack had been sleeping at the YMCA when he crashed a party held at Janet and Chrissy's apartment. He passed out in their bathtub. He said he'd come with a friend who knew one of the gate-crashers. He revealed he actually needed a place to stay, and the girls had a vacant room (the party had been a farewell for their former roommate). Janet convinced her landlord, Mr. Roper, to let him stay, but only because she lied and told him that Jack was homosexual. (This provided much of the comedy of the show, as Jack [who was straight] had to "play gay" whenever Mr. Roper was around. Mrs. Roper easily figured out that Jack was straight, but helped the roommates cover for Jack whenever Mr. Roper grew suspicious.)
