Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Uniquely, the simple act of existing in the Wasteland provides an immediate boost to the player's Game Stage. What is one thing Game Stage does?

Answer: Enhances loot quality

The player will experience a flat boost of 50 to their Game Stage at all times when traversing the Wasteland. This boost immediately dissipates if they ever leave the Wasteland.

Game Stage influences many things, the most commonly seen being loot quality and, perhaps concerningly, a higher Game Stage makes it likelier for the player to encounter Special Infected, such as Zombie Ranchers, Chucks and Screamers.

Little bit to give and take with a raised Game Stage: skilled players will likely benefit greatly if they can avoid the higher Game Stage overwhelming them. Newer players, meanwhile, may want to seriously arm to the teeth before coming to take advantage.
2. In addition to a higher Game Stage, more Heat will be generated for taking actions within the Wasteland. What is the consequence to generating more Heat?

Answer: More easily attract zombies to the player's location

Heat is a mechanic in this game that, despite the name, does not influence temperature at all. It is an invisible number that, when it reaches certain thresholds, will cause zombies to spawn throughout the world near the player. Most noisy actions generate some form of Heat, and various utilities such as Campfires, Forges and Chemical Stations generate tons of Heat.

Shooting guns and driving vehicles generates loads of Heat. In the Wasteland, extra Heat is generated for these actions, making it easier to attract hordes of zombies. As such, players who are not supremely armed to the teeth should take caution before driving a noisy vehicle or shooting a gun. It may be best to drive a silent Bicycle or go on foot, and pack top notch melee weapons or a suppressor for one's gun.
3. All biomes have an exclusive city (in Navezgane) and the Wasteland is no exception. What is the name of the city residing in the Wasteland?

Answer: This is never revealed

The city in the Wasteland simply has no name assigned to it. As such, it is often simply referred to as 'Wasteland City' or the like by players.
4. The Wasteland's city houses one particular type of structure unseen across the entire world of Navezgane. If playing in Navezgane and not a randomly generated world, which of the following only appears in the Wasteland's city?

Answer: Factories

There are some seriously loaded factories, specifically a Shotgun Messiah factory, a Pop 'n Pills factory and a Shamway factory. In these three, gun parts, medicinal items and loads of food can be found, respectively. Predictably, they are also filled to the brim with end game zombies, so this juice will certainly take quite a lot of squeezing.
5. Being outside at night in general can be risky, but this risk is amplified in the Wasteland. Which of the following happens here at night?

Answer: Zombies spawn endlessly

In other biomes, there is actually a hard coded limit to how many zombies can spawn in a given area at night. The player is unlikely to ever actually kill enough zombies to achieve this limit unless they really go out of their way to do so, but it is possible.

In the Wasteland, zombies do not have a spawn limit when the night begins. If the player starts firing off guns, explosives or uses other noisy means to kill zombies, it is very probable that they will just have to deal with an endless horde until the sun rises.
6. To simply survive in the Wasteland requires Radiation Gear. If this is unobtainable, Fallout Flush can be consumed to let the player temporarily roam the area. Which of the following is an ingredient of Fallout Flush?

Answer: Bottle of Acid

An ear of Super Corn, Bottle of Acid, Radiated Mushrooms and Yucca Fruit make up Fallout Flush. Perhaps thankfully, the iconography and description of this largely suggests it would be injected into the bloodstream, and not simply used as a drink. It does not exist in real life of course, but I can't imagine having to chug down acid, genetically modified corn, poisoned mushrooms mixed with a fruit just to survive.

As with all biome-protecting consumables, Fallout Flush works for five minutes at a time, up to a max of fifteen minutes per sitting.
7. Each biome has its own exclusive Special Zombie. Unsurprisingly, the one boasted by the Wasteland, the Demolisher, is the scariest one yet by far. The player must be seriously careful how, specifically where they kill it. What happens if they strike or shoot a Demolisher in the chest area?

Answer: It explodes

Attached to the Demolisher's chest is a large, initially green colored charge. If this charge is ever struck, it will begin to flash red for about ten seconds before the Demolisher explodes. The explosion will absolutely kill the player right from full health if they're close enough, and will also assuredly destroy any blocks/buildings it hits in the process. It is possible to kill Demolishers without triggering this charge, but if they end up on low health for long enough, they can trigger their own charge. If they do, they will break into an endless sprint for the nearest player, essentially aiming to kamikaze right into them.

Demolishers are, thankfully, large and their charge is big and exposed too. Players with long range options, like a sniper rifle, could hit the charge from far away and cause the ensuing explosion from a safe distance. This could also wipe out nearby zombies, but is sure to cause a lot of noise that may attract even more zombies to the player's position. Lots to give and take here!
8. Wildlife joins the undead as being a huge problem for the player here. Which of the following commonly appears in the Wasteland?

Answer: Dire Wolves

Dire Wolves are the big daddy hostile animal of the entire game, as well as being nastier to face than any zombie, even Demolishers. They are incredibly fast, eat bullets and explosives like they're ice cream and are freakishly huge for a wolf. Death will be swift if they ever get up in the player's face, which is not very hard to do since they greatly outpace the player on foot. On PlayStation, there is actually a trophy obtained for landing a killing blow against a Dire Wolf with a melee weapon. This is, unsurprisingly, one of the hardest trophies to acquire in the entire game.

The best solution the player could find to dealing with Dire Wolves, other than not confronting them, would be to get a sniper rifle and an M60 or Auto Shotgun, use the sniper to hit the Dire Wolf in the head a few times from a distance, then hope and pray it was enough for an unleashed M60 or Auto Shotgun to finish the job.

If playing with a friend, Dire Wolves can, like anything else, be cheesed if the player obtains a Monster Truck or Gyrocopter. With it, one player could operate the vehicle while the other could take shots at the Dire Wolf from a position of safety until it dies.

Dire Wolves, like Mountain Lions, also cannot climb structures. Unlike Mountain Lions, however, Dire Wolves are not too stupid to destroy structures the player uses to block them off. So Dire Wolves are not as easily cheesable as Mountain Lions. Mercifully, they travel alone and not in packs.
9. Trader Joel is the trader of the Wasteland, if playing in the Navezgane setting. What does Joel specialize in?

Answer: Armor

While he is immensely friendly, Joel will constantly try wholesome albeit shameless self plugs with the player in most of his dialogue lines, promoting his sale of armor. For good reason, as quality armor sure is useful in the most brutalizing area of the entire game.

Interestingly, in the 2013 original version of this game, Joel mainly sold regular clothing. He was also positioned in the Plains biome, essentially a carbon copy of the Pine Forest in this game. Trader Rekt, the trader at the Pine Forest, was the trader at the Wasteland in the original game.

Though Fun Pimps has never directly commented on why Rekt and Joel switched places in this game, it can be logically asserted that modifications to clothing as a mechanic between the two games had to do with it. In this game, Joel's stock is not terribly useful to fresh new characters as a result, while Rekt's is.
10. The Wasteland is located on the Southwest of Navezgane. What is one biome it is directly adjacent to?

Answer: Desert

It does technically neighbor the beginning area of the game, Pine Forest, but players would have to go very far out of their way to find the tiny patch of land that is technically adjacent to the Wasteland.

The Desert being a late game area, it is sensible to create a path of progression involving the player visiting these two biomes last.
