Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Burnt Forest was once like the Pine Forest, according to lore. What happened that destroyed it by comparison?

Answer: World War III

A fictitious World War III took place in this game, and the nucleic fallout essentially destroyed the 'forest' of Burnt Forest. As a result, there are very few trees, lots of things are just on fire and the area just generally looks desolate.
2. You're traveling through the Burnt Forest, when suddenly - BOOM! You are dead. What just happened?

Answer: You stepped on a land mine

Land mines aren't as obnoxiously frequent as the Wasteland, but they remain a threat here. They can be difficult to identify due to blending in with the ground almost completely, so the player needs to keep their eyes peeled. They appear completely randomly with no "tell" or any way to determine or predict that they will appear. Personally, I have never seen any land mines inside of buildings at least, but since the player can actually place landmines down inside of buildings, I cannot confirm that it is impossible for landmines to randomly appear in this way.
3. Obviously, you don't want zombies hitting you in general if you can help it. Here, however, there is an added negative to Ember Zombies, exclusive to the Burnt Forest, hitting you. What can happen, other than the usual from zombie hits, if a Burnt Zombie hits the player?

Answer: The zombie can set them on fire

Obviously, being on fire is bad. Catching fire while fighting an entire zombie horde is basically a death sentence; in fact, even just fighting one zombie and catching on fire can be curtains for the player.

Hilariously, due to the way this game works, the player can reduce their chances of being set on fire by... wearing either a cowboy hat or a bandana. These two pieces of clothing come with cooling properties meant to lower the wearer's body temperature. Body temperature is what determines whether or not the player will catch on fire, predictably spiking up considerably when being struck by an Ember Zombie.

I would not think "wear a cowboy hat or a bandana" would become firefighting advice, but here we are.
4. In order to even survive within the Burnt Forest, the player must complete a handful of quests. Part of this involves crafting an extremely particular drink. What drink?

Answer: Black Lung Serum

Despite being classified as a drink, the iconography and description of this clearly imply that it's supposed to be injected into the bloodstream. Of course, simply consuming the serum will work, the player doesn't need to direct the game on how they want to consume it.

If Smoke Gear has not been crafted, the player will be able to survive in the Burnt Forest for three minutes before taking Suffocation damage and eventually dying. Black Lung Serum extends this timer by five minutes, though it cannot go beyond fifteen minutes in one sitting, so there is no point to crafting/carrying more than three of them at a time.
5. If choosing to play on the Navezgane map, the Burnt Forest will be directly south of the Pine Forest. It is in a position where it neighbors most biomes. What is the only biome Burnt Forest is not directly adjacent to?

Answer: Snow

This at least makes logical sense, because it would be difficult to rationalize how a freezing, snowy climate could exist directly next to an area recently completely destroyed by pyro warfare, chemicals and explosives. Personally, this logical dilemma makes me prefer Navezgane as opposed to a random seed. Among many other things, anyway.

If on Navezgane, the Desert will be to the East of Burnt Forest and Wasteland will be further South.
6. If on Navezgane, there will be one exclusive trader for each biome. Who is the trader in the Burnt Forest?

Answer: Jen

Jen has basically a night and day attitude from Rekt, treating the player with arguably too much kindness and respect, and boasting a stock that greatly differs from Rekt. Jen focuses on medicinal items and reagents, making her a great merchant for if the player is struggling with Infection or any of the game's various injuries.

She will not have the same level of farming/food and water that Rekt has, and since there are very few trees and wildlife in the Burnt Forest, the player may still find themselves needing to return to Rekt in the Pine Forest.
7. If the player is having difficulty crafting ammunition, Burnt Forest could be just what they needed. What type of ore can mainly be found here?

Answer: Lead

While lead ore exists in the Wasteland, it is far easier, and noticeably less dangerous, to mine it in the Burnt Forest. Bullet Tips, used to craft any and all non-explosive ammo, are crafted with the use of Lead. As such, the player can make ammo-hungry albeit powerful guns like the M60 or AK47 work a lot more easily if they spend a lot of time in the Burnt Forest.
8. The wildlife can get rowdy in the Burnt Forest, especially zombified animals. What zombified animal appears most commonly in Burnt Forest?

Answer: Vulture

All four of these can appear - the Bear is extremely rare but possible - but Vultures frequent the area. They are certain to appear during Blood Moons, and will frequently congregate and fly circles over the player's head if they don't address one or two Vultures quickly. Thankfully, they are absurdly fragile and will die in a single hit to almost anything, even terrible Pipe guns or the Primitive Bow.
9. In the Pine Forest, rainfall is frequent-- might be annoying to deal with, but it's not really dangerous. Burnt Forest offers an entirely different climate. What type of weather is common (and exclusive) here?

Answer: Ember Storm

As the name implies, an Ember Storm is essentially raining small embers from the sky. Unlike the rain, the player will actually be forewarned when an Ember Storm is about to begin. If the player is caught outside during an Ember Storm, it will do tons of damage to them and generally kill them unless they have some kind of immediate safety to rush to as the storm begins.

Clearly, if the player is going to survive meaningfully in Burnt Forest, they will need to construct a sturdy shelter to hide from the Ember Storm in. Sadly, due to the nature of the climate, most buildings in this biome are completely destroyed and useless. The player will either need something from scratch, or they'll need to get creative and fix a place up.
10. Gravestowne is the city housed within the Burnt Forest. Which of the following is true about Gravestowne?

Answer: It is the largest city in the game

With a movie theater, a hotel, a huge office building, enormous parking garage and several gun stores, there is a lot to do and see in Gravestowne. If the player wanted, it is certainly big enough for them to find suitable shelter in- suitable shelter is a big problem to find in Burnt Forest.

However, as there is a lot to do, there is also unsurprisingly a ton of zombies to deal with. So if the player wants to survive here, especially during Blood Moons, they will need to be clever and should avoid simply choosing a building off of a whim.
