"Black Ops 2" Arsenal Associator Quiz
Some of the most beloved weapons in "Call of Duty" history came from the masterpiece that is "Black Ops 2" (PS3/5, XBox 360 and PC). See if you can place name to title!
A classification quiz
by cavalier87.
Estimated time: 3 mins.
This is an SMG players begin their profiles with. This is somewhat amusing as, the year before "Black Ops 2" came out, the MP7 appeared in "Modern Warfare 3". In the latter, it was the final SMG unlocked, juxtaposed to here where it's available off the bat.
In another funny twist, this MP7 statistically is night and day compared to the year prior's MP7, despite them both being the exact same gun. The MP7 in "Black Ops 2" is powerful but has poor accuracy. The MP7 the year prior was the exact opposite: on the weaker side, but with laser accuracy that made it effective at a range.
The MP7 does not appear in Zombies.
2. MTAR
Answer: Assault Rifles
The MTAR is the assault rifle players begin their profile with. It features decent damage but poor accuracy, which places it at a severe disadvantage competing with other assault rifles at a mid range, which is where ARs are supposed to shine.
In Zombies, thankfully, the MTAR is a lot better. The poor accuracy means a lot less in this mode and, conversely, high damage output is appreciated. It is a Mystery Box weapon on every map except for Origins.
3. Remington 870 MCS
Answer: Shotguns
This is a very standard point and shoot pump shotgun. In "Black Ops 1", the Stakeout was horrendous. The game prior, "World at War", featured the M1897 Trench Gun, which was also very bad. Thankfully, the Remington 870 MCS finally set the tone for genuinely great pump shotguns in a Multiplayer setting. It is far easier to record one shot kills with this than the aforementioned shotguns. It, of course, still suffers from being very slow due to being pump action, but at least the payoff for skilled use is actually there unlike its predecessors.
In Zombies, this shotgun is quite a mixed bag. On one hand, it is definitely better than the other shotguns mentioned last paragraph were in their respective games. However, it isn't exactly great in and of itself. This game, in general, has a much more competitive catalogue of weapons. The Remington is ultimately a fine choice, but it isn't anything spectacular. It is available off the wall in most maps for 1500 points, just like the Trench Gun and Stakeout were. At least the price makes sense this time. On Origins, it is possible, albeit unlikely, to dig up a free Remington from a dig site using a shovel.
4. MK48
Answer: Light Machine Guns
The MK48 is a relatively generic LMG. It features very ordinary stats across the board; it has a high fire rate, acceptable damage, huge clips and a very standard, slow, reload speed. This is the LMG players start their profiles with. If the LMG playstyle is up your alley, this weapon will definitely tide you over until the real good stuff comes down the road.
The MK48 does not appear in Zombies at all.
5. SVU-AS
Answer: Sniper Rifles
The SVU-AS is the sniper rifle players start their profiles with. This thing is, statistically, a complete copy/paste of the Dragunov from "Black Ops 1". It is a semi automatic sniper which can fire faster than average sniper rifles, but is also rather on the weak side.
In Zombies, however, this thing is a complete and utter powerhouse. It is available off the wall on Die Rise and Buried. On either map, it can be Pack-a-Punched to secure one of very few weapons in this game capable of one-shotting a zombie past round 40, as the SVU-AS can go until r41. For a wall weapon to make that claim is ridiculous. Amazingly, that isn't the SVU-AS' only positive, as it comes with a ridiculous 224 rounds, with massive 32 round clip sizes. Because it is a wall buy weapon, ammunition concerns basically don't exist. This lets the player more effectively use a weapon that itself has ammo problems, such as the S12, M1216 or Type 25.
6. Five Seven
Answer: Pistols
The Five Seven is in the literal exact same boat as the MP7. In "Modern Warfare 3", this was the last pistol players unlocked, whereas players begin their "Black Ops 2" profiles with it here. Just like the MP7, the Five Seven went from a weak but super accurate weapon into a fairly strong pistol with severe range deficiencies, even by pistol standards.
The Five Seven is available in the Mystery Box on every map. Iconically, it is a wall buy weapon on Origins specifically.
7. PDW-57
Answer: Submachine Guns
The PDW-57 features the largest clip size of the SMG class. It also has excellent accuracy. Its fire rate is slightly below average, but damage output is what knocks it down some pegs, as it has pretty poor damage.
In Zombies, the PDW-57 is a wall buy weapon in Die Rise and Buried, and it is a Mystery Box weapon in Mob of the Dead and Origins. It is excellent for farming points off of zombies with, but due to its low power, it generally shouldn't be Pack-a-Punched.
8. M27
Answer: Assault Rifles
The M27 features the single best accuracy of any full automatic AR in the game, and it is highly competitive for having the best accuracy of any gun, period, in the game. This thing has no real drawbacks as, between amazing accuracy, solid damage, standard clip sizes and a standard reload speed, the M27 is highly versatile. There is virtually no situation the M27 can't at least be wielded competently to navigate through.
In Zombies, the M27 only appears in Nuketown as a Mystery Box weapon. It is a pretty great weapon here, making it a shame it couldn't be included in more maps.
9. S12
Answer: Shotguns
The S12 is this game's semi automatic shotgun. It is somewhat similar to "Black Ops 1's" SPAS-12, only the S12's pellet spread is way, way more narrow. On paper, this should be an advantage, but it realistically plays out the same in practice. What is less desirable about the S12 though is that despite being magazine-fed, its reload speed is still strangely poor. Again, you would think having a magazine-fed weapon juxtaposed to dual action, like most shotguns, would be an advantage. Yet, it is not.
In Zombies, the S12 is a Mystery Box weapon on all maps except for Origins. It is somewhat strong, but has severe problems with ammunition as the Pack-a-Punched version only comes with 60 total rounds.
10. QBB LSW
Answer: Light Machine Guns
The QBB LSW is, statistically, a complete and utter copy/paste of the L86 LSW from "Modern Warfare 3". They are basically the exact same weapon, with the same fire rate, damage, clip size and even reload speed. The L86 LSW was a pretty okay weapon and, fitfully, so is the QBB LSW. There are both better and worse choices for whatever one would need the QBB LSW to do.
This weapon does not appear in Zombies at all.
11. DSR 50
Answer: Sniper Rifles
This is the most iconic, recognizable sniper rifle in this game. The reason for this is that, famously, the DSR 50 was subject to the first nerf that this game ever pushed through. On launch, it was unbelievably overpowered and was dominating games and lobbies. It was nerfed drastically, making it much slower, making the idle zoom sway far greater, and basically annihilating its hip fire accuracy. Yet, the DSR 50 persisted as still being a pretty great gun. It is a reliable one shot kill to the chest and up.
In Zombies, this weapon is in the Mystery Box on every single map. This is one of few weapons which actually tangibly benefits from being Pack-a-Punched twice. Doing so will remove the scope and replace it with iron sights, making it better and easier to use in close quarters. The undead don't shoot back, so close quarters are a way of life in this mode. The scope isn't useful, so making the rifle more effective up close makes sense.
12. B23R
Answer: Pistols
This is the only three round burst pistol in the game. It was the first time since "Modern Warfare 2" four years prior that this concept was attempted. In that game, the M93 Raffica was ridiculous, easily the single best pistol in the game and one of the better weapons, period. The B23R falls well short of that status, but is still a useful sidearm in its own right.
In Zombies, the B23R is a wall buy on every map except for the three Green Run survival maps of Bus Depot, Farm and Town. This is, like the PDW-57, a pretty good way to earn points early and, like the PDW-57, a very poor choice to Pack-a-Punch.
13. Vector K10
Answer: Submachine Guns
The Vector K10 is a personal favorite of mine. It is the most accurate SMG in the game and features an above average reload speed, making it effective for faster paced playstyles.
Sadly, the damage output is fairly poor along with the effective range, making it a bad choice for competing with ARs and the LSAT.
14. SMR
Answer: Assault Rifles
The SMR is definitely in a tale of two different modes here. In Multiplayer, this thing is pretty great. It's a semi automatic rifle with strong two-shot kill potential, while even having a pretty good chance to one shot to the head. It lacks in close range effectiveness, but this a problem remedied fairly easily by packing a strong sidearm, such as the B23R.
In Zombies, this weapon holds the dubious dishonor of having the worst damage output of any Mystery Box weapon. It has less firepower than the M14, which is a spawn room wall buy.
If you actually do go to the effort of Pack-a-Punching this thing for some reason, it remains fairly weak. Bizarrely though, if you were foolish enough to PaP it a second time, for some ridiculous reason, it actually nearly slices the ammo count in half. The SMIL3R, as it's called, has 390 rounds. But if you PaP it a second time, this is reduced to 210. Obviously then, this weapon isn't fit for a single PaP, much less a second.
15. KSG
Answer: Shotguns
The KSG is a pump action shotgun, closely competing with the Remington 870 MCS. Quite frankly, they are about dead even in terms of effectiveness. Both are slow but hit like a truck in close quarters. It'd be hard to go wrong either way if the pump shotgun playstyle is your thing.
The KSG only appears in the Origins Zombies map as a Mystery Box weapon. Here, it's pretty great, with speedy reload speed, lethal damage output along with a decent ammunition count.
16. LSAT
Answer: Light Machine Guns
The LSAT may take the cake for the most hated weapon in all of Multiplayer. Coincidentally, it is the best LMG in the game by a hundred miles. What made it so hated was its amazing accuracy and huge clips combined with the much maligned Target Finder attachment. People who wanted the easiest kills of their life would find some vantage point and just sit there aiming down their Target Finder. The nanosecond anyone dared appear in their sight, the LSAT featured the perfect raw stats to make gunning them down easy. This weapon was the camper's paradise, which is why it was hated so much by other players.
In Zombies, the LSAT is only on one map: Buried. It is technically a wall buy weapon, but it is a highly unconventional one at that. From spawn room, the player must first earn the 2000 points needed to buy it. Then, they must perform very precise platforming to quickly rush up to it and buy it before the platform they're standing on collapses. This then makes the wall buy unavailable for the remainder of the game.
17. Ballista
Answer: Sniper Rifles
The Ballista is a semi automatic sniper rifle. For some reason, it is unlocked after the DSR 50. Even after the latter was nerfed into the ground, it remained statistically superior. There is no real reason to use the Ballista if trying to be 'optimal', as the DSR 50 outclasses it entirely.
In Zombies, the Ballista appears on Origins as a spawn room wall buy weapon. As a spawn room weapon, it is intentionally designed to be fairly weak. Thankfully, off the wall, it has iron sights instead of the scope, making it less unwieldy.
18. Executioner
Answer: Pistols
The Executioner is another case of a tale of two modes. In Multiplayer, this shotgun shell-firing revolver is horrible. It is slow, has pathetic range, bad reload speed and it cannot one shot at all even to the head. There is no real upside to this weapon in Multiplayer.
Thankfully, in Zombies, this pistol is a powerhouse. It shreds Zombies without even needing to land headshots. A Pack-a-Punched Executioner, the Voice of Justice, is a one shot the chest until round 39, which is very strong. It's also a relatively fast weapon, and Speed Cola solves the reload speed problem completely.
19. Scorpion EVO
Answer: Submachine Guns
This, along with the DSR 50, is well known for being harshly nerfed shortly after the game's launch. On launch, this thing was a melt machine that killed AR users at a mid range like it was nothing. Even following the nerf it got, this weapon is a model of perfection statistically. It has amazing accuracy, great fire rate and acceptable damage output to go with a decent reload speed.
This weapon is a Mystery Box weapon on Origins in Zombies. Here, it's a pretty good weapon with no real drawbacks. One could competently Pack-a-Punch it to good effect.
20. AN-94
Answer: Assault Rifles
Likely the single most recognizable weapon in the entire game, the AN-94 is classically the very last piece of anything that the player will ever acquire, unlocked at the final level of 55. This makes it a ripe candidate for one's Prestige Tokens, to keep it unlocked even when resetting to level 1 at the next prestige.
In Zombies, however, is where this thing truly took center stage. It may only be available on Die Rise and Buried, but it absolutely dominates the bullet meta in both of these maps. All the while, the AN-94 is a wall buy weapon! It's even fairly cheap at a beyond reasonable 1200 points. The fact that this costs the exact same as the AK74U (no disrespect to it, it's a decent weapon!) and only 200 points more than the underwhelming MP5 is kind of a joke.
The AN-94 was so popular in this game, that it would go on to be the only weapon to originate in "Black Ops 2" to appear in "Black Ops 4", "Modern Warfare 2019" and "Modern Warfare 2 2021". And in those games, the AN-94 still doesn't miss a beat as one of the finer weapons in those games.
21. M1216
Answer: Shotguns
This shotgun has one weird quirk to it. It is fully automatic for the first six shots, then requires a rechamber before it can guzzle out the next six. It has some pretty interesting burst potential, but this is muddied by its horrendous range. Even for a shotgun, this thing has virtually no effective range, making it strictly for close quarters.
In Zombies, the M1216 is pretty strong. The poor range isn't an issue since Zombies will happily rush right up to the player. The one thing that becomes an issue, however, is ammo count. Even when Pack-a-Punched, this thing only has 96 rounds. That means you only get to fire sixteen six-round bursts before you're dead out of ammo. That is simply insufficient at higher rounds, making it a good idea to pair this weapon with a wall buy weapon, such as the SVU-AS or AN-94 (not like anything pairs exactly 'poorly' with these two, but I digress).
22. HAMR
Answer: Light Machine Guns
This LMG features the highest fire rate in the game. Unfortunately, it is also saddled with by far the worst accuracy and visual recoil of them all as well. It has a very difficult time competing with other LMGs at a distance because of this.
In Zombies, this weapon is available from the Mystery Box on all maps. As you'd expect, the poor accuracy and recoil become much less of an issue, and the HAMR is far better for it. Notably, when Pack-a-Punched, the SLDG HAMR completely loses its visual recoil. This is more quality of life than actually tangibly useful, but still.
23. XPR-50
Answer: Sniper Rifles
The XPR-50 is the final sniper rifle unlocked. This thing is essentially a spiritual successor to the PSG1 from "Black Ops 1", in that it is semi automatic and very hard hitting. It is a reliable one shot to the chest up.
This weapon does not appear in Zombies.
24. KAP-40
Answer: Pistols
The KAP-40 is the final pistol unlocked. That is likely because this thing is less of a pistol and more of an SMG, being fully automatic with great fire rate and incredible mobility. Of course, its range is quite bad, but it's sidearm- what more do you expect from it?
The KAP-40, for as great as it is in Multiplayer, falls short as a Mystery Box weapon in Zombies. It was saddled with a poor ammunition count, along with not doing great damage.
25. M8A1
Answer: Assault Rifles
The M8A1 is a four round burst assault rifle. It has pristine accuracy and great fire rate, but the burst cycle is a bit slow to compensate. Regardless, a full four round burst will reliably kill from the waist up, making it quite reliable.
This is a Mystery Box weapon in Zombies. It is like a better all around M16, minus the fact that it is not a wall buy weapon.
